Chapter 111: One hundred and ten, Drum Mountain Town

After a night of cultivation, Luo Shu got out of bed a little past eight in the morning. Today was Lu Hanmo’s birthday, and she planned to find him at his base to celebrate it with him.

After a quick wash and breakfast, Luo Shu took the bus to the coach station. Even though Lu Hanmo’s base was also in Cloud City, it was still some distance from where she lived in Fangting Town.

Upon arriving at the station, she boarded the bus to Drum Mountain Town.

The bus drove smoothly until it left the urban area, where the roads became bumpy again.

Drum Mountain Town was the most backward among the several towns and villages in Cloud City. Surrounded by mountains on all sides, the roads were steep and uneven, especially along the Mountain Ring Road, which was truly perilous. Looking out the window, you could see that the cliff was just a hair’s breadth away.

Some of the more faint-hearted passengers would even close their eyes in fear while passing this stretch of road.

Looking at the scenery outside the window, Luo Shu couldn’t help but smile, thinking that she would soon see Lu Hanmo.

After a journey of over an hour, Luo Shu finally arrived at Drum Mountain Town.

Stepping off the bus, the continuous green mountains still enveloped the surroundings.

"Big sister, do you know how to get to the Drum Mountain Training Camp?" a woman in patched clothes, leading a three- or four-year-old boy, approached and asked.

"I don’t know," Luo Shu shook her head. It was also her first time here; she didn’t know the exact location of the base. Fu Yi and the others were going to come with her, but she had managed to deter them.

"My man said he would come to pick us up, yet it’s almost noon and there’s still no sign of him," the woman said, anxiously looking around.

"Mom, Da Bao is hungry..." the little boy she was leading rubbed his belly, looking at her pitifully.

The woman squatted down and affectionately rubbed Da Bao’s head, "Da Bao, be good! Dad will come to pick us up soon, and then we’ll have something to eat." She was hungry too. It took her five or six days by train to get here, and after getting off the train, she realized that her pocket had been slit open by a blade, and her money had been stolen by a thief. She had planned to buy some food in Cloud City after disembarking, but with the money gone, she and her son had no choice but to starve.

Fortunately, at the train station, a kind-hearted uncle bought them bus tickets, otherwise she wouldn’t have known what to do.

"When will Dad come? Da Bao is really hungry, boo hoo hoo..." Da Bao’s mouth puckered, and he couldn’t hold back his tears.

"Here, take these," Luo Shu said, offering them two small cakes. Last night, she had made a cake for Lu Hanmo’s birthday and ended up with extra, so she cut it up into small cakes.

"Big sister, thank you so much! One is enough," the woman gratefully said to Luo Shu, taking one of the small cakes from her hand. In this day and age, nobody had much to spare, and she felt bad accepting two treats from Luo Shu. She had never seen a cake before and found it quite a novelty.

"Big sister, take it. I have more in my bag," Luo Shu insisted, pushing the remaining cake into the woman’s hand.

"Thank you! Big sister, I really don’t know how to thank you enough, you’re such a good person! Da Bao, quickly thank your sister," the woman said, turning to the little boy beside her.

"Thank you, sister!" Da Bao thanked her graciously.

Luo Shu smiled and shook her head, then noticing an old man not far away, she went up and asked, "Grandpa, do you know how to get to the Drum Mountain Training Camp?"

After thinking for a moment, the old man pointed to a somewhat steep road on the right, "Keep going straight down this road for about half an hour, and you should reach the training camp."

"Thank you, grandpa!" Luo Shu said, then turned to the mother and son, "Big sister, I’m heading to the training camp too. Shall we go together?"

The woman nodded and walked over to Luo Shu’s side with Da Bao, "Big sister, what did you make that treat with? It’s really delicious!" In her life, she had never tasted such a delectable treat.

"Flour, eggs, and sugar," Luo Shu replied.

"No wonder it’s so sweet and fragrant. That must have used quite a few eggs and sugar, right?" The woman was about to ask Luo Shu how the cake was made, but upon hearing it required eggs and sugar, she abandoned the thought. It’s not that her family didn’t have these ingredients; it just felt wasteful to use them for treats.

The three of them chatted as they walked.

The woman was very talkative, and Luo Shu learned about some of her circumstances. Her husband’s name was Li Shun, a minor leader in the training camp. They had come here because her husband had already arranged a place for them to stay.

Despite the uneven road, it wasn’t hard to walk on; after all, it was a driveway, and quite spacious.

About ten minutes into their walk, they saw a jeep driving toward them.

The vehicle stopped next to them, and a tall, dark-skinned man jumped out, "Xiuxiu, I got held up with something just now."

Li Shun looked at Luo Shu in surprise, "And who is this?"
