Chapter 107: One hundred and six, eat noodles.
Xu Xing didn’t mind Mu Wan’s attitude and smiled, "Mu Wan, I didn’t expect to bump into you here. Who is this?" He looked towards Luo Shu beside Mu Wan, nodding his head with a smile. He was still somewhat reluctant after breaking up with Mu Wan. She was beautiful and came from a wealthy family—if he could have stayed with her, he would have no worries about making a living in this lifetime.
Mu Wan naturally wouldn’t introduce Luo Shu to Xu Xing. She glanced at the girl beside Xu Xing, scoffed, and turned her head away.
"Who is she?" the girl beside Xu Xing pulled his arm and asked quietly.
"A classmate from school," Xu Xing replied. He had been planning to find a time to talk to Mu Wan, to see if there was any chance of getting back together, but now it seemed impossible.
Mu Wan took the apple Luo Shu handed her and bit into it forcefully, as if venting something. If she had known she would encounter Xu Xing, she wouldn’t have come to watch a movie today—it really spoiled her mood.
Luo Shu didn’t ask Mu Wan who Xu Xing was. From one look at Mu Wan’s face, she had already guessed the nature of their relationship.
"Luo Shu." Mu Wan swallowed the apple in her mouth and turned to look at Luo Shu, hesitation written on her face.
"Hmm?" Luo Shu turned with a smile.
"Let’s go shopping instead, we can watch a movie some other time," Mu Wan suggested. Just the thought of Xu Xing sitting behind her made her feel uncomfortable all over.
"Okay!" Luo Shu agreed.
"Never mind, let’s just watch the movie," Mu Wan pulled Luo Shu back as she tried to get up, looking conflicted. If she left now, Xu Xing might think she still had feelings for him.
"That’s fine too," Luo Shu said, not minding. Women are fickle by nature, especially when it comes to matters of the heart.
At that moment, the lights in the theater dimmed, and the entire place was plunged into darkness. But the theater didn’t quiet down; the buzzing of the crowd could still be heard.
Mu Wan bit her lip, wanting to speak, but in the end, she didn’t say anything about leaving. She focused her attention on the screen in front of her.
Luo Shu glanced at Mu Wan out of the corner of her eye, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly, then turned her gaze to the movie screen.
The films nowadays were colorless black-and-white movies, without special effects, and there were no fashionably dressed handsome men and beautiful women. However, compared to many stars of later generations, the actors now were down-to-earth and their acting was very exquisite, which didn’t make the audience feel awkward.
With the appearance of the words "Hepo Film Studio," the movie officially began.
A passenger ship bound for Hancheng City was about to depart. The poet Qiu Shi, who had been imprisoned for six years, became a "mandated" important convict and was escorted onto the ship by a man and a woman.
The film was centered around Qiu Shi, unfolding the different reactions to an incident by passengers of various ages, professions, and circumstances. The story was vivid and typical, filled with artistic appeal.
The chatter around the room gradually lessened as everyone’s attention was captured by the movie.
When the lights in the theater finally came back on, the audience was still immersed in the film, unable to pull themselves away for a long time.
"That was so good! Luo Shu, can we come watch again when I’m on vacation next time?" Mu Wan was entirely captivated by the movie she had just seen, forgetting about her encounter with Xu Xing.
Luo Shu smiled and nodded, then looked at the time, "Are you hungry?" It was almost one in the afternoon, and although they had snacked during the movie, the snacks were things like seeds and fruit, which didn’t really fill you up.
"I am," Mu Wan answered cheerfully, pointing to a noodle shop across the street and pulling Luo Shu over, "Let’s go have beef noodles; their beef noodles are delicious." She would always eat at that noodle shop whenever she shopped here.
Suddenly remembering something, she turned her head to look at Luo Shu’s other hand, relieved to see the money pouch still there, "Or, let’s just go eat at my place." Luo Shu was carrying so much money; what if someone took it?
"It’s okay, let’s go!" Luo Shu said, pulling Mu Wan towards the noodle shop.
Even though it was past lunchtime, the noodle shop still had quite a few customers.
Mu Wan looked around and pointed to an empty spot not too far away. "Luo Shu, go sit there, and I’ll bring the noodles over when they’re ready." This noodle shop was so busy that the waitstaff couldn’t attend to everyone, so the customers had to collect their own noodles.
Luo Shu went to the spot and sat down. After a while, she saw Mu Wan walking over with two bowls of noodles.
"The noodles are really tasty; try them," Mu Wan took out a handkerchief to wipe the chopsticks clean, then started eating the noodles with a satisfied expression.
Luo Shu smiled, picked up her chopsticks, and began eating. The beef noodles were indeed true to their name—a bowl of noodles came with at least seven or eight pieces of beef, each quite large.
"Tasty, right?" Mu Wan looked at Luo Shu with a smile.
"Not bad!" Luo Shu nodded.
"Of course! Would I recommend something wrong?" Mu Wan gloated with a laugh, but her expression quickly changed, and she squinted at something outside.
