Chapter 1024: One thousand and twenty-two, retreat
After much deliberation, Elder Guo and Elder Xin ultimately decided to attack. This time, whether advancing or retreating, the reputation of the Sky Water Sect would undeniably suffer. Since that was the case, they might as well give it their all.
Watching the solemn expressions of Elder Guo and the other two elders as they discussed, the cultivators who had come specifically to watch the spectacle were shocked beyond measure.
"The Liangyi Sect’s Formation is actually this powerful—it can’t even be cracked by elders from the Sky Water Sect."
"I wonder who designed this Mountain Protection Array? It’s simply terrifying!"
"Looks like the Sky Water Sect and Great Mahayana Island are going to walk away empty-handed this time."
"Two elders sustained injuries before even attacking—how do they plan to continue their assault?"
"The Top Ten Sects have always looked down on us small sects, but this time they’re suffering humiliation at the hands of a lesser sect. Watching this feels so satisfying, hahaha..."
"Keep your voice down! If someone from the Top Ten Sects overhears, our sect would be doomed. We don’t have such a strong Formation to protect us." Watching from the sidelines was one thing, but drawing disaster upon oneself was an entirely different story.
Elder Guo and Elder Xin approached the disciples of Sky Water Sect. Elder Guo took a deep breath and announced, "This Formation cannot be breached by Elder Xin or me. Our only option now is to force our way through. The ten strongest disciples, step forward!" They had already discussed their attack plan with Elder Li earlier.
Elder Li also selected ten disciples and sent them out.
Twenty disciples stood before the Formation, unsheathing their weapons and preparing to attack. Their task was to unleash their most powerful strikes simultaneously against the Formation.
"Attack!"
At Elder Li’s command, the disciples charged forward, each unleashing their most formidable attack.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!" The Array Barrier trembled slightly, emitting violent collision sounds, but not a single crack appeared on its surface.
The attacking disciples were simultaneously thrown back by an immense force.
The fortunate ones merely coughed up blood, while the severely injured were knocked unconscious with their internal organs shattered.
Elder Li and the other two elders rushed forward urgently, their hearts gripped by shock. This Formation was far stronger than they had anticipated.
Everyone present stood frozen in astonishment. What level could this Formation possibly be to exhibit such horrifying power?
Elder Li and the other two elders fed Healing Pills to the wounded disciples, then moved aside to discuss their next steps.
"We should retreat. No matter how many disciples we send to forcibly attack this Formation, it will be useless," Elder Xin sighed. He knew that persisting further when it was impossible would merely lead them to their doom.
He had just examined the situation—three of the ten disciples they sent had their dantian and meridians shattered; recovery would be extremely difficult. Even for the resourceful Sky Water Sect, losing three disciples was a significant blow.
When it came to disciples, the effort and resources invested in an elite disciple far outweighed those for a regular one. Losing an elite disciple wasn’t just a minor setback—it was a devastating loss.
"It’s truly frustrating!" Elder Li clenched his fists angrily, gritting his teeth as he stared at the Liangyi Sect ahead. He was unwilling to leave like this, yet he couldn’t afford the cost of sacrificing more elite disciples. The burden of such losses was too great for him to bear.
"Let’s go," Elder Guo said somberly, waving to the disciples as he took heavy steps toward the ship. This time, the Sky Water Sect had brought shame upon themselves. Not only had they failed to destroy the Liangyi Sect, but they had also lost three of their elite disciples.
The disciples followed behind with heads bowed, a stark contrast to their confident demeanor when they had arrived. Now, they looked utterly defeated, like wilted eggplants.
"This is wonderful!" Liangyi Sect disciples cheered loudly as they watched the scene unfold on the Formation Display Screen.
"Junior Brother Lu and Junior Sister Luo’s Formation is absolutely incredible!"
"The Sky Water Sect and Great Mahayana Island are sure to be fuming this time, hahaha..."
"Seeing their faces darken and their demeanor turn into that of stray dogs—it’s just so satisfying."
Lin Jue turned around and looked at Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo with great gratitude. "Thank you! On behalf of all the elders and disciples of the Liangyi Sect, I express our deepest gratitude!" Without them, the Liangyi Sect would have surely been doomed this time.
Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo shook their heads with smiles. "Sect Master, there’s no need for this. We are disciples of the Liangyi Sect—this was simply our duty."
"I truly couldn’t have imagined that Formation being so formidable. It must be a Level Nine Formation, right?" Lin Jue recalled the earlier scene and couldn’t help but laugh again. Opportunities to see Sky Water Sect and Great Mahayana Island suffer such humiliation were rare indeed.
"Level Eight Formation," Lu Hanmo replied.
"It’s just that the Formation is more complete," Luo Shu added. Most Immortal Array Masters trained with Formations derived from Ancient Formations. After countless revisions by various Array Masters, these Formations had grown increasingly incomplete, their effects deteriorating as a result.
"Elder Guo of the Sky Water Sect is already a Level Eight Peak Immortal Array Master, yet even he couldn’t discern the pathways of the Formation. This shows that the Formation you’ve trained in is truly extraordinary!" Elder Mu said with a smile.
"Thankfully, you two were here this time—otherwise, our Liangyi Sect would have been finished. Luo Shu, Lu Hanmo, thank you both. Thank you for saving the Liangyi Sect," Elder Yan said gratefully. He had been blaming himself lately; if he hadn’t agreed to Cheng Yimiao’s request to delay their return by a few days, the incident with the Demon Cultivators could’ve been avoided entirely. Now that the Liangyi Sect had survived the crisis, he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
