Chapter 1013: One thousand and eleven, unwavering determination
Lu Hanmo held a luminous pearl the size of a longan in his hand, carefully examining it. As he entered this alley, the Chaos Mountain and River Map within his Purple Mansion suddenly stirred. He could sense the Map’s excitement.
Luo Shu crouched down beside Lu Hanmo and, upon seeing the pearl in his hand, her eyes lit up. "This is a baby!"
"How much is this?" Lu Hanmo looked up and asked the stall owner.
"Twenty gold coins—this is a treasure! It’s a magical artifact used by cultivators," the stall owner said.
"I think it’s just a marble and isn’t very useful. Besides, we’re not cultivators, so even if it’s truly a magical artifact, we won’t be able to use it. If you lower the price, we might buy it back to play with as marbles," Luo Shu interjected.
"I have plenty of pearls like this at home. When we get back, I can give you a few," Shuimu Ye glanced at the pearl in Lu Hanmo’s hand and remarked.
"This pearl is different from the others. If you really like it, I’ll sell it to you for fifteen gold coins—the lowest price. If you don’t want it, that’s fine," the stall owner replied.
Luo Shu took the pearl from Lu Hanmo’s hand and inspected it for a moment. "Alright, fifteen gold coins it is." She handed the pearl back to Lu Hanmo and took out fifteen gold coins to give to the stall owner.
The stall owner gratefully accepted the coins with a smile. "Feel free to look around some more. If you find anything else you like, I’ll give you a discount."
Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo browsed the items but didn’t find anything else that interested them. They stood up and moved on to other stalls.
"Why did you pay for him?" Shuimu Ye asked Luo Shu, waiting for her answer. Were they already close enough to be indistinguishably intimate?
"Our money is pooled together," Luo Shu replied with a smile.
"Pooled together?" Shuimu Ye froze in place. No! No! She had to separate them. If they continued like this, something inevitable and catastrophic might happen between them.
She walked over to Shuimu Yan, who was inspecting a vase, and said, "Brother, I need to ask you for a favor."
Shuimu Yan turned his head, surprised, to look at Shuimu Ye. "What is it?"
"Can you share a room with Lu Mo for the next few days?" Shuimu Ye asked earnestly.
"Why?" Shuimu Yan asked, puzzled.
Shuimu Ye glanced toward Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo, who were not far away, squatting and examining something together. "Don’t you think they’re a little too close?"
Shuimu Yan thought for a moment and nodded slightly. "They do seem that way." Yesterday, he had seen the two of them holding hands. Two grown men holding hands—it truly seemed excessively intimate.
"I’m worried that Luo Yu might fall for Lu Mo. They’re at the point where they’ve even pooled their money together," Shuimu Ye said with a furrowed brow. She couldn’t bear the thought of the man she admired falling for another man.
"Is that really the case?" Shuimu Yan asked in surprise. If they were sharing money like that, their relationship seemed complicated. Even brothers usually kept clear accounts.
Shuimu Ye nodded firmly. "Brother, will you do it or not?"
"Aren’t you afraid that your brother might fall for Lu Mo too?" Shuimu Yan asked with an exasperated expression. Couldn’t his sister be concerned about him for once?
"No worries, I trust you completely," Shuimu Ye replied confidently, patting Shuimu Yan’s shoulder with a look of trust.
"But it’s not just my agreement that matters—they have to agree too," Shuimu Yan said. Luo Yu and Lu Mo were both adults; they couldn’t be forced into anything.
"Wait a moment—you convince Lu Mo, and I’ll persuade Luo Yu," Shuimu Ye said. Whether Luo Yu liked her didn’t matter—what mattered was ensuring ’he’ didn’t fall for a man.
"Alright," Shuimu Yan agreed.
After wandering around the alley, the four of them left and returned to the inn.
Despite the abundance of good items in the alley, Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo dared not buy too much. They only purchased an alchemy furnace and the pearl. Buying too many items would not only be cumbersome but might also attract unwanted attention.
Back at the inn, Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo were about to enter their room when Shuimu Yan and Shuimu Ye called out to them.
"Lu Mo, I need to talk to you. Can you come to my room?" Shuimu Yan asked.
"Luo Yu, I also need to talk to you," Shuimu Ye added.
Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo exchanged a surprised glance and nodded.
"I’ll put the furnace in the room," Lu Hanmo gestured to the heavy alchemy furnace in his hand. It was too heavy for him to expect Shushu to carry.
Luo Shu turned and followed Shuimu Ye into the room.
Lu Hanmo placed the alchemy furnace inside the room, then stepped out to find Shuimu Yan waiting for him. Together, they walked into another room.
Shuimu Yan picked up the teapot from the table and poured tea, setting cups out for both himself and Lu Hanmo.
He took a sip of tea, pondered how to broach the topic, then placed the cup down and looked at Lu Hanmo. "Lu Mo, do you have feelings for Luo Yu?" he asked directly. This question was critical. Though Lu Mo’s feelings were fairly evident, he wanted a confirmation.
"Yes!" Lu Hanmo didn’t deny it.
Hearing Lu Hanmo’s admission, Shuimu Yan furrowed his brows. "But you’re both men—how can you like ’him’?"
"As long as it’s her, it doesn’t matter," Lu Hanmo said with a charming smile, his deep eyes filled with unwavering conviction. Whether Shushu was male or female, young or old, his love for her remained unchanged.
Shuimu Yan rubbed his forehead. This was a serious problem. Lu Mo was already deeply entangled—how could he possibly dissuade him?
On the other side, Shuimu Ye faced Luo Shu and hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Luo Yu, have you noticed that Lu Mo treats you somewhat differently?" Luo Yu had bought the furnace, and Lu Mo had immediately taken it to carry for ’him,’ which clearly went beyond mere friendship.
"How differently?" Luo Shu raised an eyebrow.
"Don’t you see that he seems to like you? I don’t mean as a friend—do you understand what I mean?" Shuimu Ye asked tentatively.
"I understand and I already know," Luo Shu replied with a smile and a nod.
"You already know he likes you? I mean like how a man loves a woman?" Shuimu Ye asked in shock, her eyes widening. So ’he’ already knew?
"Yes," Luo Shu said, smiling and nodding again.
"Then do you like him?" Shuimu Ye pressed. She hoped Luo Yu wouldn’t have feelings for Lu Mo—otherwise, all her efforts would be in vain.
"Yes," Luo Shu admitted without hesitation, her eyes filled with unwavering affection. Merely saying ’like’ couldn’t fully encapsulate her feelings for Hanmo; it was love—profound, passionate, and resolute.
