Sleeping With The CEO
Chapter 50: Late

Chapter 50: Late

After her first initial scream did not do anything to change her situation, Emily did the next most logical thing. She screamed again, and again, and again...

With another loud scream she shot up and scrambled off the bed. In her haste, she got wrapped up in the covers, and they clung to her legs. She tried to kick them off but that made things worse, and the next thing she knew, Emily was tilting backwards. She hit the ground with a loud thud, her side aching distantly as she found herself staring up at the ceiling in a daze.

Getting back up, she reached down and untangled her legs, making sure that she was ready to run. It was only after her legs were free that Emily allowed herself to look up. She had been lucky enough that the person who had grabbed her, had not attacked while she had been freeing her legs. Now she had to face them before they thought to pounce on her.

Putting on her meanest game face-one that she had practiced many times in front of the mirror for maximum effect, Emily stared up, ready to fight. The face that met her was not that of a sinister criminal. In fact it was not the face of a criminal at all. It was the very confused face of her boss, his hair a complete mess, sticking up in all directions, a confused look on his face.

"Why are you screaming?" He asked, his voice rough with sleep.

Why was she screaming?! Why was she screaming! How could he ask that and be so calm? She had just woken up to find her boss in bed with her. How else was she supposed to react? It was only right that she...and then it all came back to her. The memories hitting her with such force, that she lost her train of thought as they assaulted her.

The solar plant workers going on strike thanks to the underhanded dealings of Sebastian Haven, having to go into work in the middle of the night. Flying out to engage with the protesters without ever getting a chance to go home. Derek meeting with the angry mob and managing to calm them down enough for them to listen. The pure relief when everything had worked out, and then finding out that they could not fly out that night and having to find a place to sleep. A place that had ended up having only one room left, and the room had only a single bed, a bed that they’d had to share. Which was why Derek was currently staring down at her in confusion. His epic bedhead somehow making him look like those roguish models that seemed to adorn the cover of every single magazine ( at least the kinds that she used to hoard as a teenager). The comparison was a very unnecessary one, and it made Emily feel like a creep, so she quickly discarded it, turning her focus to the matter at hand.

How had she forgotten an entire night of events, even if it was just for a brief moment? If he knew why she had been screaming so loudly, he would never let her live it down. Sure, he would be a perfect gentleman about it, never bringing it up. But she just knew he would be looking at her in the future and thinking about that one time she behaved irrationally and shrieked like she was being chased by wolves. Her face heating up, Emily tried to come up with a believable excuse. Her mind sifting through several ideas, and discarding them just as quickly trying to come up with a good one, which was surprisingly difficult. Or maybe not so surprising seeing as she had just woken up and was now asking her brain to perform monumental feat, but she still gave it a go.

Maybe she could tell him that there had been someone in the room. She dismissed the idea, that would cause unnecessary tension that would likely lead to a wild goose chase as Derek hunted down a person who did not exist. She could tell him that she had been having a nightmare, but Emily did not like involving nightmares in anything, not even lies. Or maybe she could tell him that there had been some kind of strange animal at the window, just staring at them. Spying on them as they slept. But they were not on the ground floor, and there was no tree right outside, so there were no branches for an animal to climb onto. That lie would be exposed very quickly. She even went as far as telling him that she woke up like that every morning. Just screaming her head off to get her body into gear. But not even she believed that story as she was coming up with it. After wrecking her brains, she finally came up with something that was believable and would not cause too much drama.

"I thought I saw a spider, but I must have been mistaken. Now that I think about it, it was just a shadow," She lied, breathing a sigh of relief when he seemed to buy it. Once Derek settled back down, his eyes on the ceiling, Emily placed her hands on the floor and tried to push herself up, only to stop when the tips of her fingers grazed something.

She looked down and was surprised to see her phone there. Picking it up, she turned it over and froze.

Eleven twenty-five, the screen read and her heart rate picked up.

"Derek! Derek get up, we have to go!" She grabbed his nearest body part, which happened to be his foot and shook it.

"What?" He grumbled, clearly still only half awake.

"Our flight leaves at twelve! We have to be at the airport before then," She told him, her panic multiplying when he just continued to lay there.

How was she even going to explain it... I woke up late because I slept with the CEO?
