"Finally, I did it!"
It had taken more days than he had thought it would, but Jax had finally entered the 3-Star Opal stage.
"3-Star in less than 20 days is not bad," Gemma said. "The average is around two months in most cases."
Jax couldn’t help but smile. Reaching the 3-Star stage, he could feel his entire body elevated to a different level. The quality of Navi in his sea was much thicker as well, and at the same time, he felt physically better as well.
"Is it just my delusion, or did my physical body get stronger too?" Jax asked.
"It is indeed stronger," Gemma said. "Everyone gets some improvement to their physique when they break through to a new stage."
"Even Sorcerers? You never told me about this."
"Because most of the time, it is quite negligible, so I never thought it would matter much," Gemma said. "I didn’t think you could feel it either. It must be because you were physically strong from the start. Since the increase in strength is proportional to what you already had, what was improved must’ve been noticeable for you."
Jax had never known about that. "I’ve broken through two times by now, three times if you count absorbing Navi for the first time. So how strong am I right now?"
"You can only test and find out."
Jax decided that he did want to test. So he went out of his room and to the training ground. He found the stones that were to the side, each of a different color marked in numbers.
Jax immediately went to the sixth stone, which was the one that he struggled with the last time he was here. This was six times the weight of a first stone, which was already 25 times the weight of a regular slime.
Jax reached down and grabbed the stone from all sides, lifting it. To his surprise, it felt rather easy this time around.
"Woah!"
He hadn’t expected it to be this easy. He remembered just 19 days ago when he had to grunt to keep this up for barely three seconds. Had he gotten stronger now?
There was still a bit of effort there, but not nearly as much as he had to exert previously. He let go of the stone and moved to the next one. This one he had to struggle with, but even then, he could keep it up for more than 10 seconds easily.
This stone weighed around 175 slimes, which was over 100 slimes more than what he weighed himself. That was incredible.
Jax tried the one that weighed 200 slimes, but it was too much for him. He didn’t have that strength.
He was satisfied with even that and was about to return when he wondered how strong he was if he used his Navi. He still hadn’t made a skill of it yet, so he had to force the Navi in his sea to pour out into every part of his body.
’When is this going to be a skill? It’s a pain to make use of it each time like this,’ Jax wondered. Once the Navi was in every part of his body, he bent down and lifted the stone.
The stone was easily lifted. Even the 200-slime stone did not pose much of an issue to Jax, who was completely fortified with his Navi.
Jax was quite excited by that and moved on to the next stone. The next one was picked up easily as well, so he put that down and went to the last one.
The 250-slime stone was the heaviest they had around, so Jax tried picking that one up. He felt some difficulty with this one, but not to a point where it could have much of an effect on him.
In fact, the axe he got from the dead old man was much heavier than this one.
"I guess I’m not going to be able to measure my true strength in this place," Jax said. "Whatever, let us go back."
As he left, he was eyed by the dozens of people that were training in that place. Not a single person there expected to see someone casually pick up the heaviest stone in the training area.
It wasn’t every day that someone so strong came by.
"How long before the end do I need to enter the maze?" Jax asked as he returned.
"If you’re lucky, you could walk in just an hour before and still manage to find a monster for the ticket. If you’re unlucky, you could go a day without finding anything at all."
"So... three days before the end should be fine, right?" Jax asked.
"Should be," Gemma said. "That’s in 20 more days."
Jax nodded. "Assuming it takes me four days to reach that city and prepare for everything, I will need to leave this place about a week before. Meaning, I have two more weeks to do everything I can to get as strong as I can to enter the maze."
"Mhm. What are you thinking?"
"The boss of the Cobweb Forest, the Spider Queen, gives Nature Elemental stones as a reward, doesn’t she?" Jax asked.
"I do believe so," Gemma said. "Do you want to get it?"
Jax nodded. "I have two more weeks, so I can spend all of that time in the Cobweb Forest, hunting for the Spider Queen."
"What if you don’t make it in time?" Gemma asked. "The chances of finding a boss are quite low, you know?"
"If I don’t find it, then I leave anyway. Just because I want to find it doesn’t mean that I must," Jax said.
"And what if you do find it?" Gemma asked. "Do you think you’re strong enough to beat a 3-Star Opal stage boss without a party?"
Jax shrugged. "I’ll just have to try it out for myself and find out then, don’t I?"
