SIGNING IN: BEING SHOWERED BY HEAVENLY BLESSINGS FOR FIVE YEARS -
Chapter 359 - 356: BANQUET 3
Chapter 359: Chapter 356: BANQUET 3
The handshake lasted for a few seconds before the hands separated, and Diamond beamed at the lady.
"I hope that everything you heard was pleasant!" Diamond said bashfully upon seeing how eager this lady was to befriend her.
All her customers were family, at least those who didn’t mean harm to her. Besides, this lady had given her so much face. So how could she not feel a bit close to her?
Samantha smiled upon seeing how friendly Diamond was. She wasn’t expecting her to be so approachable like that. And what she liked about the other was how she didn’t put on any airs or try to flatter her. Maybe she would see something different as they get to know each other gradually, but for now, she was loving everything that she was seeing.
"Only the good things. And you can call me Ma’am or Samantha, whichever one you feel comfortable with!" Samantha said as she looked at Diamond fondly.
Having such a pretty lady calling her Mrs. all the time, she felt weird. For a moment, she felt as if someone would compare the two of them. How the other was a Ms. and she was a Mrs. and it stung a lot.
Diamond hearing Samantha’s words, her face brightened up a lot. She really loved people like Samantha, who didn’t conform to norms and were insistent on being called properly.
Of course, she didn’t dare call her by her names straight, but there were other endearments that she could use, right?
Without any hesitation, Diamond, who was fast to blend in, called out smilingly to Samantha, "I will call you, Big Sister Samantha then. I hope you won’t be offended!"
Hearing such a calling, Samantha burst into hearty laughter. This kind of calling she liked so much and it sounded pleasing to the ear, with Diamond calling her. Who didn’t want to look and sound younger nowadays?
"Then little sister, have some fun and don’t go anywhere. Big sister still needs to know more about you!" ignoring the baffled people around them, Samantha affectionately addressed Diamond.
Diamond felt her heart thumping after being recognized by such a big shot and happily said, "I will not go anywhere. You do your thing and I will be with Vivian, waiting for you!" beaming with visible joy.
The two of them exchanged a few more words before Samantha had to go to the front to officiate the banquet. It was time for the banquet to start, after all.
Vivian brought Diamond to the table that had been reserved for them.
At the table, it was Diamond, Vivian, and two other ladies. She learnt their names to be Nia and Wendy. The two were friends of Vivian, making it easier for Diamond to get acquainted with the others.
Nia, Wendy and Vivian had been friends for five years. Among the three of them, only Vivian was ordinary and came from a poor background, while the other two were from affluent families.
How they became friends, Diamond was so dead curious. However, she understood that some things weren’t meant to be asked at least on the first meeting, after knowing each other for mere minutes.
It was good that Vivian’s friends didn’t look down on her and liked her so much. It was very hard for people from poor backgrounds to find genuine, rich friends. Either it was for pity or for the rich girls to make them feel superior to the other.
Life was indeed unfair, but what else can be done to make it fair? Nothing much.
Anyway, as she sat there, she learnt a lot of fascinating things and easily became close to the other two.
The fact that Nia and Wendy didn’t like Anne Richards, they had something in common, as they could be seen whispering to each other while keeping an eye on what was happening.
As the banquet progressed, Diamond found that it wasn’t as special as she imagined it to be. She thought something huge would be happening, but unfortunately, it wasn’t like that at all.
When it started, the first thirty minutes were spent introducing some big figures, which sort of helped Diamond to know who was who.
It was at least great to know some women who had carved their paths in a world where men basically dominate. So, seeing other women like her, she felt quite happy, making her change her mind about the perspective she had been looking at the banquet.
After noting down the faces of these ladies, she might need to be acquainted with in the future, the next segment arrived.
For the next hour, Diamond became like a good model student as she listened attentively as two prominent figures among the big shots who had been introduced earlier addressed the guests, or rather shared their experiences in the business world.
Taking a look at the first woman who addressed them, was a lady in her sixties, with fine white hair on her head and yet she didn’t look that old. If she hadn’t heard from Andrea that she was in her sixties, she would have simply assumed that she was unfortunate to get a head of white hair sooner than the intended time.
She seemed to be a person who knew how to take care of herself properly. This lady was named Helena Harrison, married to a former famous lawyer who now owns a law firm and is currently the owner of one of the major galleries in Dielas.
Helena is an artist and her passion for arts was well known all over Dielas. Just like Samantha, she wasn’t born with a silver spoon in her mouth, but she had to struggle with every step she took to be where she was.
Helena literally did a run-through of what it was like for her back in the day, the few opportunities to promote females and how some ladies had to sell their bodies to get an opportunity to rise.
If a woman was weak, then all that waited for them at the finishing line was doom.
From her, Diamond also learnt that when one is passionate about something, never give up hastily. Do everything you can to achieve it without crossing your moral line. Once that line gets crossed, then everything will be finished.
Hearing that, Diamond nodded in understanding. Once upon a time, she once crossed her moral line and where it led her was a place she didn’t want to visit ever again. It was that horrible.
Having people who shared their experiences to teach others, Diamond felt very touched. She applauded crazily once Helena was done with her speech.
