Chapter 173: Chapter 171
Iwarim City
"Ta, ta, ta, ta, ta."
The typing sounds filled the room as fingers moved at a speed that would shock even active gamers who pride themselves on their hand speed.
Sitting in front of several computers showing graphs and some unknown codes which most people in the computing world would know as codes. A man was wearing glasses. His expression looked solemn.
The man continued to type for a very long time until he licked on the ENTER button, making everything on the several screens vanish as if it wasn’t there.
Upon seeing that, the man didn’t show any panic but instead smiled brightly as he stretched his arms while yawning.
It’s been a while since he was seated, and the fatigue was getting to him.
"I wonder if she would like it?" he asked no one in particular as he stood up from the chair.
Inside this room that was filled with computers, something seemed odd and didn’t seem to match.
On the walls, posters were hanging, of a beautiful woman smiling so brightly that it looked as if a halo was shining behind her.
Her bright white teeth were revealed, and those dimples made her look cute and made the person looking at her want to take a bite.
Unlike female celebrities who usually do posters like these dressed to the nines, the woman on the poster was wearing shorts, a t-shirt and a pair of sneakers that matched the top.
There was nothing fancy about her except her pretty face and that look in her eyes that seemed to draw others to like her.
The person on the poster was someone who meant so much to the man who was on his feet as he stretched his arms.
Looking at the woman on the poster, his gaze immediately turned affection.
"Babes, just give me a few days. I will be joining you soon!" he solemnly vowed, while looking at the poster before he turned around to leave.
After leaving the room, he locked the door securely before he started taking the staircase upwards. When the stairs ended, a passage followed along and he walked in that passage.
After walking for a while, he came face to face with a wall. There seemed to be no way out, but with a single touch of the wall, the wall automatically slid to the side.
When the wall opened, the man walked to the other side without looking back. After he crossed over, the wall immediately slid back, turning into an ordinary wall that looked the same as the rest of the wall.
Inside the room where the man appeared, there were several bookshelves filled with all sorts of books, a desk with a desktop and a laptop on top. The windows were big and one of them was a floor-to-ceiling window providing a beautiful view of unending green pastures.
As for the part of the wall where he just came out from, there was nothing that could make other people suspect that there was a secret passage.
The man didn’t linger in the study but left the study, appearing in a corridor that took him to the lounge, sitting room, dining room, and lastly, the kitchen.
It was already late and since he had been on the computer the whole day; he was famished.
So, the man started preparing dinner as soon as he entered the kitchen. He was very thorough, and every action he took made him look like someone with OCD.
After preparing the meal for an hour or so, the man picked his plate and took it to the dining room, where he set the plate on the table before vanishing and returning with a bottle of red wine and a wineglass.
The man sat elegantly at the table before he started dining by himself. Except for the sound of the cutlery coming into contact with the plate, no other sound could be heard in the house.
The man took around twenty minutes to finish his meal before he stood up and took the plate to the kitchen, where he washed them.
He cleaned the dining room and returned the wine to the cellar before he took the stairs upstairs to where his bedroom was located.
When he entered the bedroom, the first thing he did was head over to the bathroom, where he took his time bathing. When he was done, he changed into silk pajamas before he went out to the balcony, where he sat on a wingback chair while holding a cigarette in hand, which he lit before he started smoking.
Enjoying the view while smoking, the man’s eyes seemed deep, and he looked like the kind of person who kept everything to himself. He looked dead serious as if everything happening around him wasn’t any of his concern, but that image got shattered the moment his phone rang and saw the caller ID.
The face that looked cold and expressionless a second ago suddenly warmed and brightened in a short moment. If there was someone else with him, that person would have been shocked greatly.
The man swiped the phone’s screen, put the call on loudspeaker, and a rich male voice sounded through the speaker.
[Hello, my dear brother?]
The man couldn’t hide his smile as soon as he heard that voice. It’s been a while since he heard from the other, so his happiness couldn’t be hidden.
"I am doing pretty well. Just how busy are you?" he asked as he took in a puff.
[Alas, don’t even start! At the rate that we were going, I would have been done before New Year, but those girls with their tricks messed everything up!] the other complained as soon as he was asked.
Upon hearing that, the man’s brows furrowed deeply, a murderous glint flashing in his eyes.
"What did they do? Do you want me to solve it for you?" he asked coldly as his other hand clenched into a fist.
[There is no need. The director fortunately solved the problem. So, I should be done at least by the second of January.]
When the man heard that, his brows furrowed even deeper.
"Must you really work even on the first?"
[If I want to have a long vacation, that’s the only way I can deal with it. If I take a vacation, it will take longer. I just want to rest as soon as possible. So, for now, I will sacrifice this time. I have no choice, Kian.]
When Kian heard that, he sighed heavily as he understood the nature of the job that his brother had. However, he was still disappointed since he wouldn’t be able to be with him, at least on New Year’s Eve.
The two brothers had always done their best to accompany each other, even when things were tough, but it seemed that this year was going to be different.
"Okay. Just take care of yourself and don’t forget that once you are done, you need to fly to Taco," Kian reminded as he showed concern to his brother.
[Haha, I won’t forget something like that. I just hope that they won’t be angry at me.]
Kian smiled softly as he listened to his brother sounding all worried, though he knew that the other was probably grinning from the happiness of being invited.
"Sullivan, they won’t be. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have invited us!" Kian reassured his brother.
[That’s true. I can’t wait to meet them. It’s not all parents that are open to accepting something like this.]
"That’s true. For now, I will see them for you first while we wait for you!" Kian boastfully said with a sly smile on his face.
[Brother, you .... Can’t you wait for me?]
"Hehe, why should I? Anyway, it’s pretty late. You take a rest. There are a few things that I need to finish!" Kian lied with a straight face.
[Come on, Kian. Tell me, when are you going?]
Hearing Sullivan’s tone, Kian felt that all the pent-up anger within him was slowly dissipating.
"On the 28th," Kian answered before he hung up and put his phone in flight mode.
’Heh, that’s what you get for taking my girl first!’
Although he was fine with sharing with Sullivan. Whenever he recalled how his brother slept with Diamond on the first night after meeting for the first time, he felt some deep jealousy and anger towards him.
He had known her much longer than Sullivan. So why was he benefiting first when he had never even kissed her?
The thought of them being intimate infuriated him so much that he wanted to make up for it.
That was why, despite knowing that Sullivan would not be available early, he was going to go to Taco and meet with Diamond’s family.
He was going to score some brownie points for himself and regain everything that he had lost.
And when Sullivan joined them, maybe his heart at that time would be settled.
Kian didn’t go back into the house but continued to smoke. After finishing three cigarettes, he felt that he was finally okay. So he went into the room, passed it and went to another room next to the bedroom, which was a second study room.
He took out a bottle of wine from the fridge, poured a little into a glass, and gulped it all down at once.
When he was done, he returned to the bedroom and threw himself on the bed.
He was tired, a lot, and with the impending work he needed to finish the next day, Kian knew that it was time for him to rest.
So, without further ado or thinking a lot, Kian closed his eyes and fell into a slumber.
