~~~~~~********~~~~~~
At the end of their shopping, Diamond paid for the bedroom furniture set. It came with a queen-sized bed, eight storage drawers with a mirrored dresser, two nightstands and a chest.
She also purchased furniture for the living room, dining and kitchen. As for the other two bedrooms, Diamond didn’t bother with them. Nancy would fill the apartment at her own pace. As long as the important places had been dealt with.
She also purchased a new laptop and a desktop for Nancy to use when she was at home or work.
Diamond didn’t bother with the bill and just let the cashier swipe her ABA card, which earned her a worshipping gaze not only from Nancy but from the shop’s employees and other curious customers.
Diamond gave the shop the address where they would be delivering the furniture and, fortunately, that could be done on the same day.
So, what was left for Nancy was to get all the furniture to the apartment and in a couple of days, she would be moving in.
Diamond wasn’t planning on helping to move, but she wanted some privacy as she had that video meeting with the manager of the security company. So, she drove to Greenbay, where Nancy waited at the reception while Diamond went to the rooftop to have some peaceful moments.
When they arrived at the block, she was stunned when she saw the number of people who wanted to rent the apartments. And she didn’t want to disturb business, so she made herself scarce.
On the rooftop, there was a shed with a table and chairs. So, she sat there and had Andrea project the call. Since it was tiring to hold her phone as she talked, she had Andrea make a virtual screen in front of her.
Looking at the virtual screen projecting in front of her while the phone was lying on the table with the cameras facing upward, Diamond took deep breaths.
’Let’s not be too curious about things that will only make me crazy!’ she warned herself as she did that.
One shouldn’t underestimate an advanced A.I. after all.
After a few rings, a frame appeared on the virtual screen and Diamond found herself face-to-face with a good-looking middle-aged man.
Just looking at him through the screen, she could tell that he wasn’t ordinary. Although he was in management, Diamond, who already knew how this man served for ten years in the military before he ventured into the business world, gave him a double glance.
She loved lean and muscular men, after all. And the manager looked like that. Too bad his face wasn’t to her liking.
When the man saw a young woman appearing on the screen, he told himself repeatedly to observe his manners. He had already heard from the previous boss that the new owner was young.
Although the takeover came as a surprise, he didn’t blame the new owner. Business was risky. One day you are up there and the next you are nowhere to be found.
Seeing that the man was sizing her too, Diamond flashed a smile as she started the conversation. Since she was the younger one between the two of them, she decided to be respectful for once.
"Hello, Mr. Admire. It’s my greatest pleasure to talk to you face-to-face like this!" Diamond cheerfully said.
She wasn’t lying when she said that. She had been itching to her hands on the security company for a long time and finally; it was hers.
[The pleasure is mine, Ms. Perry,] Admire responded respectfully with a smile on his face.
Diamond didn’t know what the man was thinking about but all she knew was that she needed to let him know of her plans and then wait for Admire to convey them to the others.
Once a decision gets made, she would continue with her true agenda of bringing everyone to Frin.
"I won’t beat around the bush and just get straight to the point. As your previous boss told you, I am now the new owner of the company. I agreed with your former boss that I won’t be firing anyone, and I see no reason to do that."
"You all have experience, and it is that experience that I want. So be at ease. Everyone will be keeping their jobs unless they aren’t willing. However, I have some news for you." A smile crept on her face as she said that.
The man fidgeted slightly in his seat as his brows furrowed together before asking, "Is it bad or good news?"
"That will depend on you guys," Diamond answered calmly as she leaned in the outdoor chair before continuing, "You may or not know, but I stay in Frin. This means that the company will be moving to Frin. My wish is for everyone to move with it to this side. However, since I am not sure about your side, I thought it was best to tell you first."
Diamond observed Admire as she said that, and his countenance didn’t look good.
"Must we really move there?"
Diamond nodded her head firmly. "Yes, there is no other way. The reason why I wanted the team was so that you may protect my family. If I keep you there, then what will be the point of me buying the company at such a high price?"
Diamond didn’t see it making sense if she were to do that.
Admire went silent too after hearing Diamond’s side.
"I will give you time to think about it, but the deadline is 31 December. Before the new year starts, I need to know the people that will be moving to my side and make necessary preparations."
"I will offer free accommodations for those that will come, but you will be sharing with others. If you want to live on your own, the company will compensate you, but it will be reasonable. That means that for those with families, I won’t be able to accommodate you now. After all, we haven’t worked with each other yet. Consider the following few months as probation. As long as you work well with me, then I guarantee you that I will not hold out on you."
"For those that can’t come to Frin, I will compensate them greatly. However, Mr. Admire, you need to know that I won’t pay people for free. If you can’t provide the service that I am paying for, then I see no reason to keep a freeloader with me."
Diamond kept on telling Admire what she would be expecting from the guards. After all, she was already losing a lot of money by letting them stay at Greenbay’s apartments for free.
Apart from that, the salaries she had planned to give them were lucrative as well. She just didn’t want to waste her money when she got nothing in return.
Admire on the other side, presented his arguments and Diamond listened to him well. The two talked face-to-face for over an hour before they reached an agreement.
Before Christmas, Admire would be giving her the decision that the employees have made. Diamond accepted that, as she also needed time to deal with a few things herself.
With around eight days remaining till Christmas, Diamond had a lot of things to finish.
After ending the call, she didn’t hurriedly go downstairs but clicked on the D-Angel app as there were too many notifications showing there.
Diamond chuckled softly as she read the chats that the employees were busy sending to each other.
She even found several tagging her, and she put more effort into reading those.
Fortunately, there wasn’t anything serious happening at the foundation. The people who had tagged her were from the farm.
Seeing the messages, she couldn’t help but sigh softly.
She looked up at the sky again and felt upset.
Since she had seen the messages, she responded to them there before making a direct call.
Diamond spent ten minutes talking to Cain before she finally hung up. Checking the time, she decided that it was time for her to go and check on Nancy.
Diamond didn’t use the elevator, but took the stairs and didn’t break into a sweat. Her body was very fit, so taking a few stairs wouldn’t make her suffer.
Diamond went all the way to floor number eight, the floor that Nancy had picked the previous day.
When she reached the floor, she smiled relievedly when she saw several men carrying furniture to the end of the corridor where Nancy’s apartment was located.
Since the furniture was there, Diamond decided to go and see what was happening there.
While Diamond was busy doing that, a thousand kilometers away from Frin, in a certain office, a man was busy smoking with an unreadable expression on his face.
"Sir, you won’t solve the issue by keeping it to yourself. Why don’t you call for everyone to gather? That way we can think of a solution together," another younger man sitting in the office with the smoking man suggested.
The man that was smoking exhaled some rings of smoke before squashing the cigarette butt and looking at the younger man.
"How many do you think will be willing to move away?" the man asked.
"Mr. Admire, you must understand that unless you hear individually from everyone, the answer will remain vague. So, stop tormenting yourself and just hear everyone’s opinion," the young man said as he massaged his temples.
"You ...." Admire became speechless upon being told off like that.
The young man shrugged his shoulders and smiled at him.
"What I know is that I will go to Frin myself. It’s not like I have anything holding me here. I get to see a new place and be paid lucratively. I would be a fool if I let this chance go!"
Admire looked at the young man for a long time but still failed to say something.
"Stop tormenting yourself. The clock is ticking and not every rich person has a good temper. We should be grateful that we found an understanding new boss!"
The young man’s words gave Admire a wake-up call when he heard them.
"I guess that there isn’t any choice for me then."
"There isn’t. So, old man, start moving!"
