She Lost Memory Before the Divorce -
Chapter 273 - Chapter 273 Chapter 0273 I Like You But I Am Not Cheap
Chapter 273: Chapter 0273: I Like You, But I Am Not Cheap Chapter 273: Chapter 0273: I Like You, But I Am Not Cheap That afternoon, Gu Xiaoman returned to the country, and Mu Lan went straight to the airport.
Only upon seeing her lively and energetic did Mu Lan feel relieved, she seemed much stronger than expected.
Looking at Shen Zichu, he had a dark expression on his face, nowhere near his usual graceful poise, looking almost like Black King Yama himself.
Mu Lan knew full well that the two hadn’t reached an agreement, but she still pretended to be oblivious. A wise person knows to read the room and not to burden others needlessly.
“Is the studio not busy anymore, Boss Mu?”
Gu Xiaoman, as if nothing was wrong, grinned and linked her arm with Mu Lan’s, completely ignoring Shen Zichu as if he didn’t exist.
Shen Zichu felt extremely aggrieved, but he couldn’t show too much in front of Mu Lan.
Clearly, he hadn’t looked in a mirror and was unaware of his complexion.
“No matter how busy things are, they’re not as important as you are.”
Gu Xiaoman giggled and bumped Mu Lan’s shoulder flirtatiously.
“Does someone feel invigorated because of some happy news? Did you get back together with Huo Tingxiao?”
With keen insight, Mu Lan spoke the truth:
“Not exactly, he fell ill while you were hospitalized.”
Gu Xiaoman expressed surprise, then spoke banteringly.
“That damned fate.”
“What’s the good news? How did you manage to get yourself like this? It’s just a vlog, was it necessary to go all out like that? Are you a blogger or a survivalist?”
Mu Lan rattled off a string of questions, and Gu Xiaoman pursed her lips.
“Stop scolding, I know I was wrong. This isn’t mere survival in the wild; it’s rebirth from the wilderness. Some matters require a splash of cold water to the face for clarity.”
Gu Xiaoman said this without thought, but Shen Zichu took it to heart.
Mu Lan subconsciously glanced at Shen Zichu’s expression, which had indeed worsened.
“Dinner together tonight?”
“No thanks, I want to go home. I’ve had my fill of Iceland, home is more comfortable. Don’t worry about me, I’m fine.”
Gu Xiaoman’s words had a deeper meaning, and Mu Lan was smart enough to catch it.
“Alright then, I’ll take you two home.”
Mu Lan said ‘you two’, and Shen Zichu’s expression finally eased.
But Gu Xiaoman didn’t give him any face, reminding him:
“We’ll go our separate ways home, I need some time alone.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Zichu exploded.
“Gu Xiaoman, that’s enough!”
Gu Xiaoman looked innocently aggrieved.
“What did I do? Why are you scolding me?”
“…”
Mu Lan watched the two of them and felt somewhat superfluous.
Shen Zichu glared at her fiercely.
“Gu Xiaoman, it seems you’re in need of a lesson. We agreed to talk when back in the country, so what’s with this cold treatment now?”
Gu Xiaoman continued to pout, feigning innocence.
“I don’t recall, what were we supposed to talk about? Your secret crush? Let’s not do that, it’s too awkward.”
Mu Lan held her forehead knowing full well what kind of person Gu Xiaoman was, unwilling to suffer the slightest grievance.
It looked like this time, Shen Zichu had truly upset her, and the chances of being let off easily seemed slim.
“You can argue all you like, but don’t delay me from taking you home.”
After speaking, Mu Lan walked ahead and stayed silent.
There was no rush for Gu Xiaoman to pick her battles with Shen Zichu.
The two sat in the back of the car while Mu Lan took the passenger seat. Yun Xi raised an eyebrow, sensing the atmosphere in the car was off.
But she was always sparing with words so naturally, she didn’t ask.
However, Gu Xiaoman insisted on striking up a conversation with her.
“Yun Xi, long time no see, don’t you miss me?”
Yun Xi was blunt.
“No.”
Gu Xiaoman sighed.
“So heartless, sigh. I almost died in Iceland.”
With a casual tone, Shen Zichu’s expression went through several changes.
Yun Xi, not expecting Gu Xiaoman’s brush with death, asked calmly:
“You’re okay, right?”
Gu Xiaoman laughed out loud.
“Yun Xi, you’re really super cute. I can’t stay here and chat with you if I have things to do.
Don’t worry, I’m feeling great now, everything tastes delicious.”
Shen Zichu watched Gu Xiaoman behave in such a way, feeling his heart tremble with panic, as he struggled to confront her.
It wasn’t until he brought the two of them to the base of Gu Xiaoman’s apartment building that Gu Xiaoman, pulling Mu Lan upstairs, Shen Zichu refused, saying:
“Let’s have a proper talk.”
Gu Xiaoman snorted coldly.
“I don’t want to talk, I just want to speak with Mu Lan. You go wherever it’s cool and stay there.”
Shen Zichu held back his anger.
“Huo Tingxiao has just been discharged from the hospital, he needs someone to take care of him.”
Gu Xiaoman frowned.
“Is it that serious?”
Mu Lan looked at Shen Zichu, her eyes conveying a clear message.
After thinking it over, she decided to give Shen Zichu a chance. They still needed to talk things out clearly.
“Xiaoman, Huo Tingxiao’s illness was indeed quite serious this time.”
Gu Xiaoman looked a bit aggrieved, that stinky Mu Lan who is all for the opposite sex and has no humanity!
But she couldn’t help feeling happy for her best friend; after all, being able to clear the air with Huo Tingxiao and get their relationship back on track was happy news.
“Got it, let’s hang out another day.”
Having said that, Gu Xiaoman turned around gracefully, leaving Mu Lan feeling sour inside.
She stopped Shen Zichu who was about to follow her up.
“Shen Zichu, Gu Xiaoman is my best friend. The chance I’m giving you this time isn’t about taking your side; you should understand my meaning.”
Shen Zichu nodded.
“I know.”
…
Shen Zichu stood at the door, entered his fingerprint, and as he opened the door, a pillow flew towards him.
Luckily, he was quick and deflected it with one move, otherwise it would have hit him in the face.
“Speak if you have something to say; violence is not the answer.”
Gu Xiaoman snorted coldly.
“This is my house, get out.”
Shen Zichu frowned.
“Your house is my house, we’re one and the same.”
Gu Xiaoman glared at him.
“Shen Zichu, do you have no shame? Who is one and the same with you?”
Shen Zichu’s face hardened as he walked over and grabbed Gu Xiaoman’s hand to play with it. Then he wrapped his arms around her.
“Gu Xiaoman, I’ve held back for several days. Don’t forget what you said at the beginning! We should discuss matters; we need to speak out. The last thing a couple needs is suspicion. It’s only been a short while, have you forgotten all that already?”
Gu Xiaoman stared at Shen Zichu.
“Where do you get the face to ask me that? Have you done it? Have you kept nothing from me?
What exactly is your relationship with Shao Wei? Have you ever been honest with me about that?
Did you feel smug inside when you pretended and took me to dine with that couple?
You’ve been secretly in love with her for so many years, watching her marry someone else, and you still expect me to act as if nothing is happening alongside you.
Shen Zichu, do you think this is a movie?
You want to be the romantic hero, go spend your life alone, I’ll admire your nerve.
You dragged me into marriage, let me believe I had a chance, and I was as happy as a fool. What do you take me for?
I like you, but I’m not cheap.”
Hearing these words, Shen Zichu felt excruciating pain inside.
“I’ve already let go. The moment I proposed to you, I let go.
I admit, I didn’t tell you about this because I was hoping for the best.
Because no one knew, it seemed nice to just remain friends and each live our own lives, doesn’t it?
The only unexpected thing is that you found out.”
“Gu Xiaoman, I was wrong to keep this from you.
But I haven’t asked about your past either. I believe I’m not applying double standards. Let the past be the past, can’t we just have a good future together?”
Shen Zichu’s words made Gu Xiaoman laugh.
“Shen Zichu, you’re too much of a bully.”
