She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 336: Straight to the Point
Chapter 336: Chapter 336: Straight to the Point
Shen Heyu weighed her options, but it seemed she couldn’t find a better solution. Pei Yansi had a piercing gaze, sharp in seeing through both matters and people. Perhaps he could really find the truth behind Lu Yi’s car accident.
Shen Heyu thought for a while and felt it wasn’t entirely unfeasible. However, before that, she wanted to get more from him, so she said, "That would be too much of a loss for me. The effort I’d have to put in is both mentally and physically taxing."
"What else do you want?" Pei Yansi looked at her, unsurprised. If she had agreed so easily, she wouldn’t be Shen Heyu.
Shen Heyu said, "Lu Yi and I have been good friends for so many years. Now that this has happened to him, I cannot just sit by and do nothing. I want to be able to see him whenever I wish, and to stay by his side for as long as I want."
After hearing her words, Pei Yansi’s face visibly darkened at an observable speed. Truthfully, he was unwilling, not just unwilling, but even somewhat repulsed.
After all, she still wanted to be by Lu Yi’s side. Pei Yansi felt a bit bitter inside. He said to her, "I’m arranging for a caregiver to look after him. You don’t need to worry yourself by going to his side."
Shen Heyu rejected his suggestion without any surprise. "A caregiver is a caregiver, and I am me. If it were me lying in the hospital today, he would never just sit idly by."
"Must it be this way?" His voice deepened, carrying a touch of disappointment. Although subtle, Shen Heyu noticed it, and her heart inexplicably quickened a little upon sensing that hint of loss.
Since when did she become so attuned to his emotional shifts, whether good or bad?
At the same time, his pull on her feelings became more apparent, which was not a good sign.
Inside Shen Heyu’s mind, was she still hoping that one day they could go their separate ways, never interfering with each other’s lives? Never falling in love with one another, just walking their own paths?
"Why aren’t you speaking?" Pei Yansi spoke up, his voice pulling Shen Heyu back to reality. She lifted her head to look at him, seeing his meaningful gaze fixed on her, "What were you just thinking about?"
"I was thinking, if it has to be this way, then if you agree, we have a deal. If not, then forget it."
After all, she had other ways to find out the truth, though they might be obstructed and likely lead to no results. She had to admit, in these matters, Pei Yansi was far more capable than she was.
Pei Yansi watched her, silent for a while, as if contemplating whether to agree to her request.
If he did, she would definitely spend more time alone with Lu Yi. They would be very close.
After a moment of contemplation, Pei Yansi eventually nodded.
He had no other options, it wasn’t possible to keep Shen Heyu trapped forever. To have her come to his company, to continue staying by his side, slowly warming her to him like the frog in lukewarm water, making their relationship public, this was the biggest compromise she could make.
This was also enormously beneficial for him.
For that reason, letting her stay by Lu Yi’s side for the time being was not unacceptable.
At worst, he would follow her every time.
Pei Yansi comforted himself with this thought, finding a bit of solace, and pulled Shen Heyu into his arms again. His lips brushed her ear, "However, you have to promise me not to do anything inappropriate, or you know, given my temper, I wouldn’t know what I might do if I were to get jealous and go mad."
His words sounded like a negotiation at first, but Shen Heyu, knowing him very well, understood that it was a threat.
Though he agreed to her meeting with Lu Yi, he was also covertly asserting his dominion. She was still his.
Although Shen Heyu was incredibly irritated, she agreed in order to smooth her own path.
After arranging a meeting with Pei Yansi, the next morning, Shen Heyu got up early, freshened up, and made a pot of chicken soup in the kitchen.
She intended to take it to the hospital for Lu Yi.
She had just come out of the kitchen when she happened upon Pei Yansi. He looked down, glanced at the item in her hand, and raised an eyebrow, "Are you going to give it to him?"
Shen Heyu nodded, "Doctor Lu is in recovery, this will be good for him."
Pei Yansi let out a nonchalant "Oh," a wave of indiscernible emotion sweeping across his eyes as he said, "Are you going to see him now?"
He glanced outside at the early hour; it wasn’t even nine o’clock yet, and she was so concerned about him.
Shen Heyu nodded again, "I’ll go early and return quickly; I still need to spend time with my daughter."
Pei Yansi simply hummed in response, took his car keys, and led Shen Heyu to the vehicle.
Despite his deep reluctance, Pei Yansi still compromised, rationalizing that enduring this for a while was a trifle if it meant slowly drawing Shen Heyu closer to his side.
Half an hour later, Pei Yansi parked outside the hospital and, walking with Shen Heyu, didn’t let go of her hand even as they entered Lu Yi’s ward. She immediately noticed his unorthodox way of asserting his dominion.
His behavior struck her as increasingly childish.
Lu Yi was still lying unconscious in the hospital bed. For whom was Pei Yansi performing this charade?
As if discerning her thoughts, Pei Yansi took the initiative to remark, "We still have Chen Lingmeng to consider, don’t we? I have to give you a sense of security too, right?"
Shen Heyu couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him.
She didn’t need to declare any sort of sovereignty in front of a rival in love. After all, as far as she was concerned, she wished someone would pester Pei Yansi relentlessly like Chen Lingmeng, preferably snatching him away.
Then no one would bother her anymore.
As Shen Heyu pushed open the door to Lu Yi’s ward, she saw Lu Yunlan sitting inside, with Chen Wenzhou keeping her company.
Both of them were seated by the bed, looking somewhat haggard and helpless, especially Lu Yunlan, who seemed to have aged several years, utterly devoid of vitality.
Distressed at the sight of her, Shen Heyu quickly approached, placed the chicken soup on the bedside table, and then said to Lu Yunlan, "Your complexion is terrible. You should go and rest; I’ll watch over him."
Although Lu Yunlan might not trust anyone else, she had no reason to doubt Shen Heyu; they had been close friends for years. Without any suspicion or refusal, she thanked Shen Heyu and left with Chen Wenzhou.
Watching Chen Wenzhou’s retreating figure, Shen Heyu felt a sense of unease. His sister, Chen Lingmeng, had also been in a car accident at the same time as Lu Yi and was in the same hospital.
She wondered how Chen Lingmeng was faring. Chen Wenzhou seemed unconcerned, having stayed by Lu Yunlan’s side all this time.
As Shen Heyu was lost in thought, suddenly Pei Yansi’s cold voice broke the silence, "Who is that questionable man you’re watching now?"
