She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 327: The Gap
Chapter 327: Chapter 327: The Gap
At that moment, she could hardly distinguish between primary and secondary issues.
She stared at Shen Jiangli, unable to believe it, "You said you have proof?"
"As it happens, that bar is a piece of the Lu Family’s property. If we can get the surveillance footage, we should still be able to see it. Aren’t you good friends with Lu Yunlan? Just find her, and all the truths will come to light."
Shen Heyu felt a chill run through her body.
The sister who had lived with her since childhood, appearing innocent and harmless, was actually the one who had pushed her into the abyss.
"I’ve said all I have to say. Believe it or not, that’s up to you. You can go now."
Shen Jiangli suddenly showed her the door. Shen Heyu took a deep look at him, and without asking further, turned and left. She walked out of the ward and into the empty corridor outside, her heart suddenly feeling as if it had plummeted to the depths of a valley.
She didn’t even know how she exited the building. Once she reached the garden in the green belt, she found a long bench, sat down, took out her phone, and hesitated over whether to contact Pei Yansi.
In fact, she had always been acutely aware that it had been Pei Yansi leading this matter all along. He was the first to receive the news, having investigated in secret for so long. Could he really be completely in the dark?
Of course, he knew. He knew full well what lay behind Shen Fanshuang’s death, that there would certainly be surveillance and evidence in the Lu Family’s possessions, yet he had said nothing to her.
He had been hiding the truth all along, but now, he had let her meet Shen Jiangli. What was his underlying motive?
Shen Heyu couldn’t figure it out.
As she was still torn about contacting Pei Yansi, a black shadow suddenly entered her line of sight. She looked up to find Pei Yansi standing before her, his head lowered, looking down on her with an air of cold indifference.
"When did you come out, and why aren’t you heading back?" The first thing he did was to question her coldly, his tone unpleasant. But it seemed that he had no intention of forcing her to return; he just gave her a cold glance, then sat down beside her.
She looked at his profile, perplexed.
His features were near perfection, so stunning they would incite the envy of both gods and men, making it impossible to find a single flaw. Yet the things he did always seemed to irk her.
Seeing him beside her, she didn’t hold back and voiced her doubts.
"You’ve been investigating for so long, you certainly must know the truth behind my sister’s death—her immoral behaviour and a retaliatory assault. I know this isn’t a justification for their actions, but why didn’t you tell me?"
Pei Yansi turned his head and gazed at her with steady eyes.
The sunlight fell onto the depths of his eyes, yet it did not reflect much warmth.
After a long pause, he spoke coldly, "Even if I told you, would you believe me?"
Shen Heyu was taken aback, not expecting him to throw the question back at her, "If you don’t say, how would you know I wouldn’t believe it?"
Pei Yansi let out a cold laugh, his voice tinged with mockery, whether he was mocking her or himself was unclear.
"The last time, I remember telling you that when we were at university, Shen Fanshuang once impersonated you and came to me, but you didn’t believe it then, did you?"
"What does that have to do with this?"
"Of course, it matters," Pei Yansi said ruthlessly, "Just mentioning her impersonating you, you wouldn’t believe it. Let alone if I told you about her improprieties and misconduct. If I told you those, you might jump up and challenge me."
"Let alone believe me."
By the time Pei Yansi finished speaking, the mockery in his tone had intensified, "It’s because I knew you wouldn’t believe it, that’s why I had Shen Jiangli tell you instead."
Shen Heyu felt as if struck by lightning.
Indeed, Shen Jiangli was involved in this matter, although an indirect perpetrator, it was enough to make her believe his words were true.
Pei Yansi found it somewhat amusing. In fact, he laughed mockingly as he looked at Shen Heyu, "We’ve been husband and wife for so many years. You refuse to believe me, yet are willing to believe a bad person who has hurt you."
"Honestly, when I made this decision, my heart was very defeated."
As he spoke, Shen Heyu turned to look at him.
Enveloped by daylight, his figure was tall and erect, like a pine on a mountain, but at that moment, none of his usual vitality could be seen.
He looked dejected.
Shen Heyu said, "Then you should reflect on why I don’t believe you."
"I know I haven’t done well enough," Pei Yansi admitted without arguing with her, ready to admit his mistake, "but have you given me a chance with your recent efforts towards me?"
Shen Heyu was at a loss for words.
Indeed, she hadn’t given him any chances; no matter what she did, she always immediately dismissed it.
Pei Yansi, understanding her reaction, let go of the past issue. He took Shen Heyu’s hand into his own, tenderly caressing it as he said, "Let’s go home."
Night was falling fast.
He wanted to take her home.
But that last sentence, he didn’t have the opportunity to say it, nor the courage.
However, Shen Heyu shook her head, withdrawing her hand from his, and said, "I’m going to the Lu’s Villa."
Her purpose was clear.
She intended to find the so-called evidence mentioned by Shen Jiangli, to determine if what he said was true—that Shen Fanshuang was of immoral character—because to her, her sister had always been well-behaved and sensible in her presence.
If this issue wasn’t resolved, she feared her heart would never find peace.
Pei Yansi looked at her understandingly and, despite her resistance, took her hand again and said, "I’ll take you."
Perhaps the news of the day was too shocking, Shen Heyu momentarily forgot to resist. She numbly nodded, letting Pei Yansi lead her away from the scene.
By the time she came back to her senses, the car had already arrived at Lu’s Villa.
Just as before, Pei Yansi did not get out of the car, but before Shen Heyu left, he took her face in his hands and said tenderly, "I’ll wait here for you, call me if you need anything, and try to come out soon. Don’t make me wait too long."
Shen Heyu nodded, seeing his compliance that day, she unusually showed a bit of a positive attitude towards him. She escaped his kiss and turned to leave, but Pei Yansi once again grabbed her wrist, his eyes deep and serious as he looked at her, "And, stay away from Lu Yi."
He paused, then added, "I don’t like it."
If he didn’t like something, Shen Heyu had no choice but to avoid it, regardless of her own wishes.
"I know."
