She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 322 Fever
Chapter 322: Chapter 322 Fever
"What do you mean?"
Hearing Lu Yi’s name, Shen Heyu felt a sinking premonition inside her. She intended to interrogate him, but since she was ill, her voice lacked any strength and sounded soft and coaxing, almost like a seductive plea.
Pei Yansi paused upon hearing her voice, but quickly collected himself, striving to remain unaffected by her spell. He smiled faintly and continued, "An hour ago, he called your cell phone. Want to know what he said?"
His smile was as inscrutable as ever, devoid of warmth.
Shen Heyu found it odd; she looked into his eyes only to find them pitch-black, exuding nothing but boundless coldness, revealing nothing else.
They say the eyes are the window to the soul, but Shen Heyu simply couldn’t glimpse any hint of his inner thoughts from his eyes.
However, her years of understanding him told her he was angry. But due to her illness, he struggled to keep his temper in check.
Shen Heyu realized that Lu Yi’s call might have contained some distressing news, so she did not respond to him.
She always avoided such potentially fraught questions.
Pei Yansi watched her for a long time, but when he got no response, he faintly guessed that she was trying to evade the issue. He scoffed and said, "If you keep silent like this, I might overthink things. Like, whether you and him have been plotting something in advance."
Shen Heyu frowned. "I don’t understand what you’re getting at."
"So?" Pei Yansi said. "If you really don’t understand, you would not have avoided me."
He pierced through her façade, and she felt a moment of embarrassment and irritation. She had only guessed what Lu Yi might have said that angered him.
But she certainly didn’t know the details.
Currently, her head was still groggy. The day was bright outside, the sun high in the sky, yet she felt utterly drained, the IV site on the back of her hand throbbed with pain.
She said wearily, "I really don’t want to argue with you about this."
Pei Yansi saw a trace of exhaustion in her eyes and said nothing further.
He narrowed his eyes slightly, but he didn’t intend to let her off the hook. He couldn’t put the issue to rest in his heart and planned to pursue it once she recovered.
For now, he ceased his interrogation and reached out to touch her forehead gently, checking her temperature, which felt normal. He asked with concern, "Is there anything else that feels uncomfortable?"
His voice suddenly softened, contrasting starkly with the coldness of his previous questioning, catching Shen Heyu off guard. It took her a moment to reply, "I can’t pinpoint it, but I just feel unwell."
Pei Yansi reflected for a moment, understanding that illness always feels this way, as arduous as drawing threads from silk. During recovery, one always feels weak.
He embraced her tenderly and asked, "Shall we go back to the family home?"
"The conditions back home are more conducive for recuperation, and both my daughter and I can stay by your side, which might help you more."
Shen Heyu shook her head, refusing, "It’s just a fever, there’s no need to go back and worry our daughter."
At this place, only Pei Yansi needed to know.
She knew from her understanding of her daughter that if her daughter learned she was ill and feverish, she would certainly worry for a long time.
Pei Yansi didn’t insist on his idea and, respecting her wishes, continued to arrange for the doctor’s visit.
This time, Zhao Jing came with the doctor.
Just like yesterday, the doctor gave Shen Heyu a drip, prescribed some medicine, and left.
Only Zhao Jing remained.
When Shen Heyu saw him, she knew that he must have something to discuss with Pei Yansi, and since he had been in this rest room for a long time without speaking, it seemed that he intended to exclude her from the conversation.
She was about to speak, suggesting they go to another room, when Pei Yansi asked, "What’s the matter?"
He shone brightly in front of her.
Shen Heyu was slightly startled by his voice, somewhat unclear as to why he’d wait so long if he intended to speak openly in front of her.
Zhao Jing was also taken aback, but remembering that Pei Yansi had mentioned Shen Jiangli’s affairs yesterday, and there was no need to hide them from her, he cautiously glanced at her before hesitantly telling Pei Yansi, "I’ve taken Shen Jiangli to where he’s supposed to be. Before leaving, he requested to see Han Manyin."
As Pei Yansi tucked in the blanket for Shen Heyu, he indifferently asked, "What did they talk about when they met?"
Zhao Jing relayed every word without missing a detail.
Shen Heyu listened intently, somewhat surprised that a man like Shen Jiangli could go to such lengths for a woman one day. She had always thought he was incapable of feelings.
Her faint reaction did not escape Pei Yansi’s notice. His heart sank slightly, and he probed deliberately, "Does it bother you?"
"No, it’s just unbelievable." Having been close friends with him for so many years, she had never seen this side of him, and she felt a strange taste in her heart, realizing that he truly cared for Han Manyin.
It’s just that he perhaps still hadn’t realized that he had caused the rift between them with his own hands.
Pei Yansi stared deeply into Shen Heyu’s eyes, not pressing further, not knowing whether he believed her or not. He simply asked her to rest well, then led Zhao Jing out of the rest room.
He casually closed the door behind him, cutting off the sound between the two rooms.
It was only then that he sat down on the office sofa, lit a cigarette for himself, and said, "I think Han Manyin’s feelings for him are genuine too. Keep a close watch on her these days; don’t let her do anything rash,"
Zhao Jing nodded repeatedly.
"Also, subtly fuel the marriage alliance between Lu Yi and the Chen Family."
The conversation between Pei Yansi and him didn’t last long, his mind preoccupied with the sick Shen Heyu. He returned to the rest room a few minutes later.
During these days of illness, Pei Yansi had been by Shen Heyu’s side the entire time, but she didn’t want her daughter at home to worry, so she had not chosen to go back.
Having been in the rest room all these days, Pei Yansi took care of her, showing tenderness that was vastly different from before, almost causing Shen Heyu to sink into it.
But she kept reminding herself that this was just his performance, that she mustn’t be bewitched by him.
It wasn’t until the third day that Shen Heyu’s illness was completely cured. That night, Madam Pei called, asking the couple to return to their family home for dinner.
Shen Heyu resigned from Shen Group, completed the handover at the company, and just as she was leaving, she saw Pei Yansi’s car parked by the roadside, waiting for her.
She was somewhat displeased, not wanting to get in, but Pei Yansi had already opened the car door and stepped out, taking the items in her hand and casually commenting, "Why so many trinkets? You’re like a little girl."
Shen Heyu ignored him and got into the car herself.
