She Asks for a Divorce Again
Chapter 303: Introducing the Wife

Chapter 303: Chapter 303: Introducing the Wife

At this moment, the room was already full of people.

Everyone was just waiting for Pei Yansi.

And at the dining table, only one seat remained empty. When everyone in the dining room saw him bring a woman with him, they all glanced at each other as if they had agreed upon it, uncertain of the situation.

Particularly, Grandpa Chen and Chen Lingmeng’s faces turned green and then white.

They clearly expressed their dissatisfaction with Pei Yansi on their faces.

Pei Yansi knew full well that this family banquet’s sole purpose in inviting him was to discuss his marriage to Chen Lingmeng. Yet, he brought another woman with him, and he did it with such intimacy.

"What does this mean, Yansi?" Grandpa Chen asked, looking at the tightly clasped hands of him and Shen Heyu, with a displeased gaze.

Pei Yansi glanced around the dining room at the only remaining seat and instead of answering Grandpa Chen’s question, he retorted, "It seems there’s no seat left, I’d like to ask Grandpa Chen what he means. Since there is no proper preparation, I’ll be leaving first, if you’ll excuse me."

His quick response left Shen Heyu speechless.

But she didn’t want to stay there either and didn’t mind leaving at all.

Just as Pei Yansi was about to leave with her, they were stopped by Chen Lingmeng, "Yansi, I’ll have the maid add a seat, please stay first."

How could she let him leave just like that? She had finally found such an opportunity and naturally wanted to tell him everything that was in her heart.

She gave a sign to the maid.

Before long, another seat was added, but the two empty seats were deliberately spaced far apart. Pei Yansi looked at them, scoffed coldly, and said, "Can’t you see my relationship with her?"

As he said this, he also raised the hand that had been holding onto Shen Heyu’s all along.

Shen Heyu looked down awkwardly, wanting to disguise her embarrassment, but it was like highlighting it even more. Once again, she felt the extent of Pei Yansi’s shamelessness.

Grandpa Chen’s gaze turned colder as he looked at him.

Everyone in the dining room started to whisper.

The Chen Family was naturally engaged in constant internal strife, and aside from Grandpa Chen and Chen Lingmeng, the others were all on the sidelines, watching the drama and gauging reactions.

The atmosphere in the dining room was tense for a moment until Grandpa Chen couldn’t take it anymore and finally let the two of them sit together.

After Pei Yansi sat down, he smiled slightly, but that smile didn’t reach his eyes. Only then did he scan the people in the room and announce, "This is my wife, Shen Heyu."

At the introduction of Shen Heyu, everyone froze, incredulously sizing up Shen Heyu.

Pei Yansi’s reputation as a bachelor was well-known to everyone.

Suddenly he appeared with a wife already, making Chen Lingmeng’s preparations into a joke at that moment.

The others looked at her with schadenfreude.

She couldn’t save face, her grip on the chopsticks growing tighter and her fingers whitening.

Grandpa Chen saw her reaction and couldn’t help feeling sorry for his granddaughter. He stared at Pei Yansi and said, "Why are you telling me only now that you have a wife? I am supposed to be your grandfather, your elder."

Not only did he not mention it, but even during the Spring Festival when Madam Pei was here, there hadn’t been any mention of it either.

It seemed the Pei Family was playing the Chen Family for fools.

Although Grandpa Chen was upset, he tried his best to contain it.

Pei Yansi laughed, "She’s shy and doesn’t like to show herself in public. She’s also scared of meeting new people, so we’ve been in a secret marriage all along, right, Heyu?"

As he spoke, he turned his gaze toward the woman beside him.

Shen Heyu suddenly found herself called out, thinking that Pei Yansi had dug a hole for her, putting her in the spotlight in such a moment. Wasn’t this just to make her a target?

However, they were indeed husband and wife legally, an indisputable fact, so she could only nod her head.

In an instant, she felt Chen Lingmeng’s glare on her.

She looked up and sure enough, saw Chen Lingmeng’s eyes, sharp enough to kill a person.

Curiously frowning back, she didn’t shy away from the gaze.

Shen Heyu didn’t understand why Chen Lingmeng was transferring her resentment toward her. It was Pei Yansi’s flirtatious debt after all.

She thought carefully and realized that it had always been this way. The debts of a man’s philandering were never paid by them; instead, it was the women who fought amongst themselves.

She realized this truth but sighed inwardly.

No one else brought up the topic since Grandpa Chen and Chen Lingmeng both knew that Pei Yansi was already married. Those who had meant to mention his and Chen Lingmeng’s marriage option had given up on the idea.

The atmosphere during the meal was eerie and silent.

After half an hour, the meal finally ended. Pei Yansi got up to leave but was stopped by Grandpa Chen, who called him into the study.

Pei Yansi hesitated for a moment but eventually agreed. He turned to Shen Heyu and whispered, "Wait for me here, don’t wander off. Don’t make me angry."

He had already said the last sentence countless times before.

Shen Heyu had received her punishment for disobedience just yesterday, so naturally she nodded obediently now.

Pei Yansi stroked her soft hair indulgently, like one would pet the head of a small animal, then followed Grandpa Chen upstairs to the study.

The scene he had just played out with Shen Heyu was fully witnessed by Chen Lingmeng from not too far away.

The seeds of jealousy were wildly growing in her heart.

She had never imagined that just a trip abroad and upon her return, everything had changed drastically.

Pei Yansi had married so swiftly, and his attitude towards Shen Heyu seemed genuinely affectionate.

She looked around, saw no one else was nearby, and walked towards Shen Heyu. Examining her from head to toe, she said, "How did you get to know Yansi?"

She had studied abroad and didn’t know that Shen Heyu and Pei Yansi were university classmates.

Shen Heyu looked at her and said, "It seems my relationship with Yansi is none of your business. If you really want to know, you should ask Pei Yansi."

Her voice was very flat, without any inflection as if she was speaking to an inanimate object.

Chen Lingmeng couldn’t help but remember Pei Yansi’s cold gaze towards herself upon being confronted with such an attitude.

Chen Lingmeng’s eyes instantly turned colder, and she stared at Shen Heyu saying, "Who do you think you are to speak to me with such an attitude? I’ve never been spoken to like this in my life."

Upon hearing her, Shen Heyu felt Chen Lingmeng was being unreasonably troublesome. Initially, she’d felt a bit sorry for her—growing up as childhood friends with Pei Yansi and waiting so many years to no avail.

But now, she only felt that a woman like Yansi couldn’t possibly be interested in someone like her.

Shen Heyu spoke coldly, "Is that so? How come I recall that Pei Yan’s attitude towards you is colder than mine?"

Her words hit a sore spot straight on.

Chen Lingmeng’s eyes turned fiery as she pointed at her and said, "Don’t cross the line. You should know that the years of affection between Pei Yansi and me cannot be undermined by an interloper like you."

Shen Heyu didn’t want to argue any further, especially about pointless matters related to Pei Yansi.

Seeing Shen Heyu’s reaction only fueled Chen Lingmeng’s anger.

She was about to confront Shen Heyu physically when suddenly she heard an aunt’s voice from behind saying, "Miss, Mr. Chen is asking for you in the study."

In the study were Pei Yansi and Grandpa Chen.

Of course, Chen Lingmeng knew this was surely about her affair with him, and for her, Pei Yansi was more important than Shen Heyu.

She gave Shen Heyu a cold final glance, saying, "You wait for me."

Her voice was so low that only the two of them could hear; even the aunt standing behind them didn’t catch a word.

Shen Heyu watched her leave without saying a word.

Chen Lingmeng entered the study.

As soon as she walked in, she saw Pei Yansi and Grandpa Chen sitting opposite each other with a tea set laid out on the coffee table in front of them.

Grandpa Chen smiled and waved at her when he saw her, his face full of affection, "There’s Ling Meng. Come sit next to Grandpa."

Chen Lingmeng obediently sat down by his side.

Grandpa Chen said to her, "Didn’t you have something to tell Yansi? Now is the best opportunity. You talk, I’ll step out for a bit."

He left the study without lingering.

As soon as he left, Pei Yansi made no effort to hide his indifference towards Chen Lingmeng. He didn’t look at her but rather lit a cigarette and said indifferently, "What did you say to Heyu?"

Chen Lingmeng was taken aback, "I don’t understand what you mean, Yansi."

Pei Yansi took a drag of his smoke, and amidst the curling smoke, his expression was unclear, "Don’t make me ask again."
