She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 282: Intentionally Matchmaking
Chapter 282: Chapter 282: Intentionally Matchmaking
She looked at her current predicament, trapped in Pei Yansi’s embrace with the kitchen counter behind her, leaving her absolutely no room to resist or struggle.
"If Pei Yansi doesn’t let go voluntarily, there’s no way I can leave here."
Taking a deep breath and after much struggle, Shen Heyu made up her mind to kiss Pei Yansi, as if she were walking to her execution.
But Pei Yansi’s gaze had never left her the whole time, and seeing the look of fatalistic resolve in her eyes, he felt somewhat displeased.
It was just a peck on his face, was it really that difficult? Her actions made it seem like a tremendously difficult task.
He was just thinking about this when suddenly a soft, featherlike touch landed on his lips, tickling his heart irresistibly.
His eyes ignited instantly, stirring Shen Heyu’s every nerve with a provocative look.
"Let go quickly, and make way. You promised, don’t deceive me," Shen Heyu, seeing the danger in his eyes and growing fearful, lowered her head, not daring to meet his gaze, merely urging him to move aside.
Pei Yansi narrowed his eyes and watched her for a long while, seemingly dismissing the activities they had shared in the room earlier that day, his eyes now burning with a predatory hunger like that of a starving wolf.
He licked his lips meaningfully and moved aside to let her pass, thinking to himself nothing would stop him from having her tonight.
Unaware of how dangerous his thoughts were, Shen Heyu seized the opportunity to leave as soon as he gave way.
She opened the kitchen door and saw her daughter sitting on the couch, concentrating on the television.
She breathed a sigh of relief, sat down next to Yuexue, and asked, "Did you call for me just now?"
Yuexue looked up at her seriously, nodded, and said, "I paused it at a good part, I’ll give you a summary, mommy!"
In Yuexue’s eyes shone unabashed joy. She looked at Shen Heyu earnestly and asked, "Mommy, when are we going back? I miss Great Grandma."
The old lady had not been around since the New Year, and when she was, she would always be with Yuexue. It was natural for her to miss her after such a long absence.
Shen Heyu thought of the promise she had made to Pei Yansi to follow him back to the Pei Mansion, back to what they called home.
She reassured her daughter, "In a couple of days."
Yuexue cheered happily, then remembered something else and asked, "Will you go with us, mommy?"
Shen Heyu could see the expectation in her daughter’s eyes and reached out to pat her little cheek, "Of course," she replied with a smile.
She saw in her daughter’s eyes the yearning for a complete family. The incident with Shen Jiangli had made her realize that being by Pei Yansi’s side would indeed protect her from harm.
Pei Yansi had the means and the status. Few dared to cause trouble near him, and besides, her daughter could have a complete family. All this did not depend on her feelings for Pei Yansi.
With this in mind, even if they were only spouses in name, and it was a secret marriage, Shen Heyu found it acceptable.
She suddenly discovered that, indeed, viewing situations from a different perspective often led to unexpected revelations, as if one moment in the dark would lead to sudden clarity.
Once, she detested being near Pei Yansi, but now she had to admit that she could use his status to achieve certain goals for herself.
And she didn’t feel guilty about it—if he treated her that way, why shouldn’t she make use of him?
While Shen Heyu was lost in thought, Pei Yansi had already put dinner on the table, acting like a domestic husband, calling the big and the little to eat.
Yuexue ate less and put down her utensils before the adults. Feeling sleepy, she rubbed her eyes at the edge of the dining table.
Pei Yansi said to her, "After I bathe you, I’ll read you a storybook and coax you to sleep."
This had been their daily routine for over a month, as he provided Yuexue with meticulous care, playing both roles of father and mother, seemingly making up for the six years of paternal love she had missed out on.
But this time, Yuexue said, "No need, I’ve already grown up, I can bathe myself."
Shen Heyu couldn’t hold back her laughter when she heard this and said, "You’re only 6 years old, how have you grown up?"
Yuexue pouted, "Anyway, I can take care of myself, Daddy can take care of Mommy, I’m going to sleep by myself."
The daughter politely left the dinner table, wished the two adults goodnight, then returned to her room.
Pei Yansi looked at her closed door and said to Shen Heyu, "I’ll go take a look."
Shen Heyu nodded.
No matter what their daughter said, looking after her was still their parental responsibility.
However, Shen Heyu was somewhat surprised at how sensible Yuexue had become.
Pei Yansi pushed open Yuexue’s door and saw her sitting at the edge of the bed. Her eyes lit up when she saw him enter, "Daddy, did I do well?"
A hint of a secret shared only between the two of them appeared in Yuexue’s eyes.
Pei Yansi smiled as he walked over to her, "Great."
This had been their plan all along, with Yuexue creating opportunities for Pei Yansi, eliminating any excuse Shen Heyu might have for not staying with him.
With her father’s praise, Yuexue smiled happily and asked, "Does that mean I’ll have a little brother or sister soon?"
"It’ll take some time," Pei Yansi said while opening the storybook from the bedside table, sitting beside his daughter, reading her a story, and lulling her to sleep.
Their secret was this, Yuexue wanted a younger sibling, and Pei Yansi had promised her to let her create opportunities for him.
Pei Yansi thought pleasedly how clever the little girl was—he was proud she was his daughter.
Yuexue soon fell fast asleep.
Pei Yansi put the storybook down, tiptoeing out of her room, careful not to wake her.
He went to the living room and found Shen Heyu had finished dinner and was sitting on the sofa, watching the cartoon that their daughter hadn’t finished.
Seeing this, Pei Yansi couldn’t help but smile. He went over to clean up the leftover dishes on the dining table, saying with a chuckle, "It’s fine if you never grow up,"
Always under his protection, relying on him as the sole support.
Shen Heyu gave him a sharp look before retreating to the master bedroom.
She laid in bed, contemplating their future path. She was bound to go back with Pei Yansi; otherwise, they couldn’t resolve the issue with Shen Jiangli. Returning to the Pei Mansion had become the bargaining chip for Pei Yansi to take action on her behalf.
She felt a surge of anger, thinking how petty Pei Yansi was for wanting compensation for helping her. After all the years they’d been married, though in name only and without affection, it surely hadn’t come to this, had it?
Feeling aggrieved, the door of the master bedroom was pushed open from the outside. She looked up and saw Pei Yansi walk in. He came over confidently and wrapped his arms around her, "Seeing how unhappy you are, who’s annoyed you?"
"Feigning ignorance," Shen Heyu slipped out of his embrace and lay down with her back to him, refusing to engage further.
