She Asks for a Divorce Again
Chapter 269: Confrontation and Provocation

Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Confrontation and Provocation

"I really don’t know what you’re talking about," Han Manyin insisted on her statement, fully aware that Shen Jiangli had begun to doubt her.

No matter where he had seen a hint, she had to deny it all within her heart; otherwise, if he was just probing, she would be done for.

Thinking back to the last time in his office, the man’s ruthlessness still terrified her.

She dared not anger him.

Shen Jiangli gazed steadily into her eyes, as if trying to see right through her, laying her bare before him.

He watched her for a long time, then extended his hand, grasped her chin, and gently lifted her face so she had to look him in the eye.

Then he slowly began to speak, "You have two more chances,"

This counted her just-spoken words as one chance.

He only gave her three in total.

He never had patience, especially not for people like Han Manyin, who habitually lied to him. He had no real feeling for her, his initial lack of control over his emotions had hurt her.

He even had to swallow his pride as a man to take responsibility for her, staying by her side in the hospital.

But if he found out that she was simply deceiving him, using amnesia to try and bind him to her, he would never let her go.

Han Manyin’s heart pounded with fear under his penetrating gaze. She said, "Why would you suspect me?"

She was resolute, refusing to expose herself.

No matter how far his suspicions went, or whether he had any proof, she had to deny everything, resolutely to the end; otherwise, she would truly have no way out in this man’s hands.

"You have one last chance," Shen Jiangli said, his gaze growing colder and the sense of danger intensifying.

The hand grasping her chin tightened its grip.

Han Manyin felt as though her chin might shatter under the man’s firm grasp.

She blinked, and whether intentional or not, tears began to stream down from the corners of her eyes. She looked pitifully up at Shen Jiangli, "I’m telling the truth..."

Shen Jiangli snapped harshly.

Having lost his patience, he followed the motion of the hand that had been holding her, and roughly pushed her away, flinging her harshly onto the floor.

Han Manyin was shoved to the ground, her back slamming into the corner of a coffee table in the room, the sharp edge cutting deeply into her waist.

The pain made her eyes instantly moisten.

She gasped for air, reaching to touch the injured part of her waist, sobbing, "I’m telling the truth, just believe me once, believe me, I really don’t understand what you mean..."

Han Manyin looked up in tears, her crying washing over her pale face.

A picture of a pear blossom bathed in rain.

Shen Jiangli looked down at her quietly, his eyes filled only with coldness. He didn’t believe her; he had already sensed something was off when they were in the cabin.

Now, with Lu Yi, there had been no progress whatsoever.

She definitely hadn’t lost her memory.

Yet looking at her now, the determination in her eyes, her trembling lips looking pitifully at him, she resembled an abandoned, stray pet.

Han Manyin reached out timidly and caught the hem of Shen Jiangli’s suit trousers. Her hand was shaking, seemingly very afraid, "Believe me, please. Although I don’t know why you would say this..."

"But I really don’t remember anything. If I’ve angered you in some way, just tell me, and I’ll change. Please don’t treat me like this..."

Han Manyin cried bitterly, and after she finished speaking, she bowed her head, hiding her expression.

Only her shoulders could be seen heaving with sobs.

Shen Jiangli saw her so stubborn, he said coldly, "Lift your head."

She obediently raised her head, her wet eyes looking at him, clear and sincere,

as if he were the most important deity in her life.

Shen Jiangli said, "So even if you don’t remember anything, you’re still determined to assert your amnesia, is that right?"

Han Manyin easily detected the probing in his words. She chose her words carefully, deliberately saying, "It’s not about me being determined, but the medical diagnosis..."

While speaking, she raised her hand to wipe away tears, looking quite pitiable.

"Heh," Shen Jiangli sneered, "if that’s the case, go do something for me."

"What?" Han Manyin blinked her eyes, looking at him with hope, as long as he didn’t pressure her to admit that she wasn’t suffering from amnesia.

To her, her own charade was of use.

"Go and apologize to Shen Heyu, you must apologize sincerely, and invite her over."

Shen Jiangli released his hold on her, lit another cigarette but didn’t smoke it, just holding it between his fingers, letting it burn. He told Han Manyin, "Anyway, figure out a way to take away the time she spends with Pei Yansi. And, you continue to go to Lu Yi’s side."

Han Manyin was stunned for a moment.

Why should she apologize to Shen Heyu?

She didn’t understand, but she let the question in her mind slip out.

Shen Jiangli sneered, his gaze lethal, "Because before you lost your memory, you did something wrong to her. You’ve never apologized, not even an explanation. What I am asking you to do now is merely to make amends."

After he finished speaking, his eyes deepened as he watched her, "Or are you saying that you never lost your memory at all and still remember all the grudges with her, unwilling to lower your head to her?"

Shen Jiangli was again subtly testing her.

Fortunately, Han Manyin picked up on it.

She said, "No, that’s not it, I’ll listen to you, I’ll apologize if you ask me to, just don’t abandon me, don’t distrust me."

She appeared to regard Shen Jiangli as her last resort, much like the only deity in her life.

Shen Jiangli chuckled darkly, "So dependent on me, huh?"

Han Manyin nodded her head, not wanting to let him detect anything wrong, "Since I woke up, you’ve been the only one by my side. I’ve lost my memory and only know you, so that’s why I depend on you."

Shen Jiangli remained silent.

He hung his head, half his face hidden in the darkness, his thoughts unknown.

After a long while, he finally said, "We’ll see how you do this time."

Han Manyin nodded, "No matter what, as long as it’s for you, I’m willing to do it."

Hearing her say that, Shen Jiangli paused, even though he knew it was a lie and certainly not to be touched, his heart seemed to skip a beat.

He stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray, then reached out, pulled Han Manyin up from the ground, and embraced her. His other hand stretched out to caress her waist, asking, "Did you get hurt?"

Han Manyin shook her head, "It doesn’t hurt."

Looking obedient.

Shen Jiangli watched her and then leaned down to gently kiss her lips.

Suddenly, a very unpleasant thought crossed his mind—he actually felt some regret, not wanting her to go to Lu Yi’s side.

However, she sensed something unusual from his kiss.

He seemed to be moved.

Inside, Han Manyin was ecstatic.
