Chapter 267: Chapter 267: Nearly Exposed
"But..."
If that were the case, what would be the point of her coming back? In any case, she was still by his side.
She didn’t speak, which was tantamount to refusal, but she didn’t dare to openly reject Pei Yansi.
Pei Yansi observed her expression, aware that she seemed poised to refuse him. Although it was an unpleasant feeling, he completely misinterpreted Shen Heyu’s intentions.
"Not speaking means you agree. I’ll take it as a yes."
Pei Yansi smoothed her hair gently and said. He took out his phone and contacted Zhao Jing, asking her to bring their daughter over.
Upon receiving the message, Zhao Jing drove non-stop to bring Yuexue over.
When Yuexue arrived, it was already time for dinner at night.
As usual, Pei Yansi was busy in the kitchen. This kitchen was not particularly familiar to him, but his skills were as adept as ever.
Yuexue sat on the couch, playing games with Shen Heyu. She looked at her father in the kitchen and blinked her eyes, asking Shen Heyu, "Mom, does Dad often cook for you?"
Shen Heyu shook her head, "No."
"Then why is he so good at cooking?" Yuexue said genuinely, "I thought Dad must cook for you often, getting better and better with practice."
Yuexue’s words prompted Shen Heyu to ponder.
Suddenly she thought, indeed, Pei Yansi grew up as a privileged young master, and as he grew older, he took over the Pei Family and even became the Pei Family CEO. He shouldn’t need to do such things personally.
So why was his cooking so good? His way of doing household chores was very skilled, even more familiar than her own, as if he had been doing these tasks since he was a child.
Shen Heyu suddenly realized that her understanding of Pei Yan was actually very limited.
As she was thinking, Pei Yansi had already brought out the dishes from the kitchen. He cooked a lot, needing several trips to carry it all, but Shen Heyu had no intention of helping.
She pulled her daughter to sit down at the dining table. After Pei Yansi placed all the dishes on the table, he personally served Shen Heyu and their daughter rice.
He had no complaints, considering it all part of what he should do. He sat next to Shen Heyu and said, "These are all dishes you like. Try them and see if they are not to your taste."
It was rare for him to be this gentle, putting Shen Heyu first in every way, preparing all her favorite dishes, completely disregarding their daughter.
Yuexue pouted, feeling somewhat aggrieved.
Pei Yansi paid her no mind, focusing only on Shen Heyu.
Even if Shen Heyu disliked him, she had to admit that his culinary skills were indeed excellent, and the dishes he made were very much to her liking.
However, the more she ate, the more she couldn’t understand why Pei Yansi’s cooking skills were so adept.
She suddenly felt a desire to understand his past.
Back when she liked him, most of her feelings were unrequited love. Just as she was ready to confess, Shen Fanshuang got into trouble, her confession was forcibly cut short, and she was used as Pei Yansi’s outlet for venting—forced into marriage and kept by his side.
In truth, she didn’t really understand him at all.
Thinking this, Shen Heyu felt a bitterness in her heart. She had given so much of her life to a man she hardly knew.
At night, after Pei Yansi had put their daughter to sleep, he came to find Shen Heyu.
She was already lying down, wrapped in her winter pajamas. As soon as she saw him come in, she became vigilant and asked, "What are you doing here?"
Pei Yansi casually sat on the edge of her bed, "Just checking on you. Can I stay?"
Though that’s what he said, his hand was already lifting the covers.
He looked like he was about to climb up onto the bed.
Shen Heyu pressed down on his hand, "No, haven’t you been assigned a guest room?"
Pei Yansi’s eyelids drooped, veiling the darkness within his eyes, making it impossible to discern his emotions, but his low voice sounded firm, "No matter what, you are still my lawful wife. The right to share a bed with you, I should still have."
Hearing his words, Shen Heyu’s scalp tingled. The relationship between the two of them was now one of mutual respect, something that couldn’t simply be reversed by the status of legal spouses.
She didn’t speak, but her attitude was still resolute. She didn’t want him to come up. She shrank back, moving directly to the edge of the bed to block his path and used her actions to refuse him.
Pei Yansi saw her move and chuckled softly. He thought to himself, this woman is still as self-delusive as ever.
That’s what Pei Yansi thought as he suddenly pulled on Shen Heyu’s wrist, dragging her under him, before he kicked away the bedding, rolled onto the bed, and easily pinned Shen Heyu beneath him.
Shen Heyu jumped with fright, her hands pressing against his chest, wanting to curse at him. But as her mouth opened, Pei Yansi moved even faster, bending his head to forcefully kiss her.
She felt like she had been struck by a bolt from the blue.
Feeling his soft lips traverse her own, his tongue gently lapping and outlining her lips.
An eerie sensation came from their connected mouths. The man on top of her was so familiar yet so foreign, causing Shen Heyu to push at him nervously.
Pei Yansi grew impatient with her struggling, and with ease, he caught both her hands and raised them above her head, pinning them down and preventing any further movement.
Then, he kissed her deeply without restraint.
She was almost out of breath, nearly suffocating, until Pei Yansi kissed her hard enough to breathe for her.
After a while, Pei Yansi finally let her go. He turned to his side and pulled Shen Heyu into his embrace, turning her to face him and burying her face into his chest.
His hand gently stroked the back of her neck before moving slowly to the major artery there, the motion steady but evident.
His fingers were ice cold. Shen Heyu looked at him, her eyes filled with fear, always feeling that if she did something to displease him the next moment, he would simply strangle her like this.
"What do you want to do?"
She couldn’t help but ask first.
Pei Yansi said, "I’ve had enough, Shen Heyu. I’m giving you a month to settle all your affairs in Jiang City, and then you’re coming back with me."
In one second, he laid bare his true intentions.
That hypocritical pretense of giving her freedom, of relaxing his hold, had been completely shattered today because of those two men.
Lu Yi already knew of her whereabouts, and Pei Yansi didn’t believe he could restrain himself from seeking out Shen Heyu.
Even if nothing ever happened between them, even if they truly had a platonic friendship, just the thought of Shen Jiangli and Lu Yi finding her ignited a fire in Pei Yansi’s heart.
He wanted Shen Heyu under his control.
He wanted her by his side forever.
No other man could come close. She was his possession, as well as the one he cherished.
He would allow no one to covet her.
Shen Heyu met Pei Yansi’s profound gaze, feeling her heartbeat accelerate.
His eyes were dark and deep, like a chilly pool under the night sky, bottomless, and at times radiating coldness that sent shivers down one’s spine.
"I won’t go back..." Shen Heyu said defiantly, "So over the past few days, your so-called granting me freedom, your so-called relaxation, was clearly just to better trap me?"
"You could say that," Pei Yansi serenely admitted.
