Chapter 260: Her Abnormality
Chapter 260: Chapter 260: Her Abnormality
Han Manyin also didn’t speak. She sat silently to the side, quietly listening to their conversation without expressing her opinions, as if she knew nothing.
She quietly listened to Shen Jiangli’s arrangements for herself.
Silently, she poked at the fire in the fireplace with a poker. The firewood crackled loudly, and the flames illuminated her face. Shen Heyu sat next to her, unable to discern his feelings at the moment.
Han Manyin had changed, seeming much more obedient, but she didn’t seem to know how to reclaim her own rights.
At this time, Shen Jiangli said, "No worries, these next few days, I will send her over. Once you find a specialist there, it might be more convenient. After all, you are a doctor and definitely understand these things better than I do."
His attitude was firm, but his words sounded extremely polite, making it hard for anyone to refuse.
Especially since Lu Yi had previously cooperated with him, concerning matters related to Shen Heyu.
Lu Yi looked at him, meeting his profound gaze, feeling as though there was a hidden meaning in his words, something deep and unfathomable.
Lu Yi overinterpreted, thinking he had some information he wanted to share with him about sending Shen Heyu away. After thinking, he nodded and said, "All right."
Shen Jiangli smiled briefly, seemingly unsurprised by the outcome, as if everything was within his expectations.
But Han Manyin felt differently.
Hearing this response, she suddenly realized that she was indeed going to be sent to Lu Yi. From then on, she could no longer be by Shen Jiangli’s side.
She had thought Lu Yi would refuse. She hadn’t been so worried just a moment ago, but now, hearing the news, she couldn’t help but tremble slightly.
The poker in her hand almost fell to the ground, dislodging a piece of firewood.
Everyone noticed.
Shen Jiangli was the first to sense something was wrong. He glanced at her, asking in a deep voice, "What’s wrong?"
Han Manyin panicked.
She felt everyone’s gaze on her.
Especially Shen Jiangli’s.
His gaze, blazing as if with fire and laden with intense scrutiny, seemed to pierce through her, aiming to expose everything.
Han Manyin shook her head, trying to appear normal and lightly laughed, "It’s nothing. I just got accidentally burnt."
"A spark flew onto the back of my hand."
Shen Heyu looked at her, feeling something was off, but sitting by the fireplace, one indeed couldn’t avoid flying sparks. She too had been hit by quite a few sparks earlier, and it was quite painful.
She didn’t think too much about it.
But Shen Jiangli’s expression suggested otherwise.
A sinister smile flickered in the depth of his eyes, inscrutable, making it difficult to guess what he was really thinking. "Is that so?"
He asked gravely.
Han Manyin hastily nodded, displaying her utmost acting skills, her eyes blinking with tears glistening, "It’s true, it really hurts."
As she spoke, she stretched out her hand to show him, fearful that he would suspect she was faking memory loss.
Shen Jiangli looked at the back of her hand, silent for a long moment before saying, "Be careful."
Han Manyin nodded repeatedly.
Then Lu Yunlan said, "Right, the firewood this winter isn’t very dry, it’s prone to spark, Heyu, you should be careful too."
Shen Heyu nodded and smiled at her, just about to say something when suddenly, her hands were pulled away by the man beside her.
She frowned, turned her head to look at Pei Yansi, puzzled, and asked, "What are you doing?"
If it was about warming his hands when they were outside, now, next to the fireplace, it was unnecessary.
Pei Yansi rubbed her hands in his, looking extremely protective, and said to her, "I’m guarding them for you, to prevent sparks from flying."
Shen Heyu didn’t speak.
She tried to pull her hand back from his grip, but when she moved, Pei Yansi didn’t react and instead held her hand even tighter.
She was not quite pleased, staring at him with an interrogative look. He didn’t speak or smile, only his eyes conveyed a hint of menace and assertiveness.
His intention was quite clear.
He wouldn’t allow her to pull away.
So she had no choice but to resign herself to his actions. Nearby, Lu Yunlan started chattering again; she had always been someone who livened up the atmosphere and always laughed when she spoke.
It influenced the atmosphere around them, even Han Manyin was smiling and joining in her topic.
After losing her memory, Han Manyin seemed to have improved her personality. Lu Yunlan didn’t reject her as before, especially now when she was still a patient.
And Lu Yi thought the same as his sister.
Because of his occupation, he always had that extra bit of care for patients.
They were all chatting and laughing, only Pei Yansi and Shen Jiangli remained quiet, occasionally offering a laugh to match the others but not joining the topic, seeming deep in thought, unknowable.
Shen Heyu also found it strange; Shen Jiangli seemed off in every aspect tonight.
She hadn’t had time to think deeply when an aunt came out of the cabin, carrying a large iron pot which she placed on the fireplace.
Lu Yunlan excitedly said, "This time we’re having that hotpot mix, cooked over the huge fireplace. It’s very lively; you’ll definitely like it."
She was speaking to Shen Heyu.
Shen Heyu watched the pot in front of her, the water in it steaming, just the steam making it feel festive.
Indeed, it was lively.
A group of people huddled around the warm fireplace, dining and laughing together, making a beautifully boisterous scene.
It felt like the New Year.
For the first time, a few people sat together amicably, sharing dinner. Pei Yansi didn’t eat much, quickly putting his bowl down after a few bites and sat beside Shen Heyu, watching her eat.
As long as she ate, he watched.
Seeing this, Han Manyin felt jealous and also realized why Shen Jiangli had sent her away—because he wanted the chance to continue pursuing Shen Heyu.
What upset her was that he had chosen to send her to Lu Yi. She was like a spare tire discarded by Shen Heyu, someone even Shen Heyu didn’t value, yet forced upon herself.
Thinking about this made her even more resentful. Seeing the infatuated way Pei Yansi looked at Shen Heyu, she couldn’t help but say intentionally, "Why is President Pei staring at Heyu all the time?"
Han Manyin deliberately softened her voice and her look was naive, as if it were just an innocent question.
Her words shifted everyone’s attention to Pei Yansi.
Shen Jiangli saw that he indeed had been staring at Shen Heyu and frowned at the critical opportunity.
Lu Yi also noticed, both of them somewhat displeased by Han Manyin’s words, realizing the intimacy between Pei Yansi and Shen Heyu.
Contrary to them, Pei Yansi visibly enjoyed himself, his purpose for coming today was to assert his dominance.
He smiled and said, "Because Heyu is my wife. I think she is beautiful, so I keep looking."
It was rare for him to respond so patiently to Han Manyin.
