She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 259 The So-Called Entrustment
Chapter 259: Chapter 259 The So-Called Entrustment
Lu Yi.
If it was an invitation from Lu Yi, the implication would be profound should Pei Yansi attend.
It was deliberate.
He intended to go, and not just by himself, he was planning to take Shen Heyu with him. Perhaps it was to assert his ownership, or maybe to see if there was still any connection between her and him.
Or perhaps it was for many other reasons.
Shen Heyu did not want to go.
She subconsciously wanted to refuse again.
But Pei Yansi bent down, suddenly kissed her lips, and said softly, "Don’t refuse me, no matter what. The fact that I could get to this point today, to let go and live on my own, not forcing you to stay by my side, is already the biggest compromise I can make."
He was not wrong in what he said.
Shen Heyu knew better than anyone that it was difficult for him to be so forgiving today, to no longer be as forceful toward her as he used to be.
Lately, he had been very easy to talk to.
"So," she was still thinking, but then she heard him continue, "Don’t refuse this."
Shen Heyu looked at him.
His eyes were pitch black, showing no emotion.
But the warning and threat in them were very clear. He had already made so many compromises; he wanted her to make compromises for him as well.
Both sides were backing down, only by doing so could they achieve their respective goals.
So, Shen Heyu did not say anything else.
She nodded her head.
She did not want to provoke him now; he had finally become so normal, and she did not wish for a return to the status quo ante.
They left at five o’clock in the evening.
Without their daughter, Yuexue, who wasn’t suitable for such occasions.
The location was a manor in the suburbs.
This season, the manor was covered with thick snow, all the flowers had withered, and only a few greenhouses held out-of-season vegetables.
In a small white cottage, someone heard the sound of Pei Yansi’s car and hurried out to greet them.
Shen Heyu got out of the passenger seat and saw the person coming out was Lu Yunlan.
Lu Yunlan, excited to see her, rushed forward and hugged her tightly, "You’ve finally appeared! Where have you been this past month, I’ve missed you so much!"
Shen Heyu felt a bit breathless from the hug, she smiled, and gently pulled the other person off her, "I’m here now, aren’t I?"
By this time, Pei Yansi had also gotten out of the car. He walked over to the two women hugging each other and looked at Lu Yunlan’s hands holding Shen Heyu, his gaze darkened.
He was somewhat displeased.
No, more accurate to say he was very displeased with her being hugged like this.
He stepped forward, with two fingers he caught hold of Lu Yunlan’s sleeve, and flicked her away, "Don’t touch her."
His voice was light, his eyes cold.
The warning was obvious.
Lu Yunlan paused, looking at Pei Yansi with a strange expression, what kind of person was this, even getting jealous over a woman.
Shen Heyu was speechless as well. As she was about to enter the house with Lu Yunlan, Pei Yansi grabbed her wrist.
He held her hand tightly and pulled her inside, saying, "Just stay close to me."
His attitude was very assertive, brooking no room for refusal. Shen Heyu was speechless but didn’t have any other option but to follow him towards the wooden building.
Lu Yunlan rolled her eyes at Pei Yansi’s retreating back, somewhat annoyed.
She had finally seen Shen Heyu, but he didn’t even allow her the chance to spend time with her.
Excessive, petty-minded, and a jealous man.
Lu Yunlan had found a plethora of derogatory terms to hurl at Pei Yansi.
Pei Yansi led Shen Heyu into the house, where a fireplace burned in the living room, warding off the chill of winter with its cozy warmth.
The living room was occupied by other people; Shen Heyu immediately spotted Lu Yi.
Lu Yi had also laid eyes on her.
They rose from beside the fireplace and watched as Shen Heyu approached. Lu Yi wanted to draw near but took only a step before halting, frowning, and warily eyeing Pei Yansi by her side.
By now, he had come to know that they were still legally husband and wife.
Lu Yi could not overstep the boundaries.
He simply stood there, keeping a distance from Shen Heyu, and asked with a smile, "I didn’t think you would come."
Shen Heyu gave him a faint smile in return, "You all are here."
She looked around at the other people in the living room.
Aside from Lu Yi, there were Shen Jiangli, Han Manyin, plus Lu Yunlan, with no one else present.
Shen Heyu was somewhat surprised. She hadn’t expected that Pei Yansi’s dinner invitation would mean joining them. However, hadn’t he always avoided being seen with Shen Jiangli and the others? She was a bit baffled.
Her gaze shifted to Han Manyin beside Shen Jiangli.
Han Manyin was demurely watching the flames in the fireplace, not glancing her way; her eyes seemed clear and pure, indeed different from before.
As if sensing her attention, Han Manyin also looked over.
Before either could speak, Shen Jiangli was the first to break the silence, "I didn’t expect President Pei to really show up."
Their meeting today had merely been a post-New-Year gathering, and due to their business relationship, they had also invited Pei Yansi, never actually anticipating his attendance.
Pei Yansi pulled Shen Heyu to sit on a small stool by the fireplace, his thin lips tracing a faint smile, "They are all her friends, my wife’s friends, which means they are my friends as well. Of course, I would come."
At his words, there was a moment’s quiet in the living room.
Lu Yunlan was the first to speak up. She sat down next to Shen Heyu, saying with a laugh, "Yeah, if you didn’t come out, I wouldn’t know when I’d see you again."
Shen Heyu smiled softly.
The atmosphere gradually livelier.
Pei Yansi took Shen Heyu’s hand into his own and caressed it gentling, displaying a look of extreme fondness as he tenderly stroked her hand.
She was momentarily lost in thought.
Just then, Shen Jiangli suddenly asked, "Doctor Lu, do you have any idea about Manyin’s current illness?"
Lu Yi responded, "I’m not a doctor in that field."
Shen Jiangli said, "That doesn’t prevent you from finding a specialist in the area, one whom you trust."
Hearing these words, Shen Heyu felt something was amiss. She looked up just in time to hear him continue, "I’ll leave Manyin in your care."
Han Manyin’s heart skipped a beat.
Feeling a tingling sensation on her scalp, she remembered what he had said the previous night and roughly understood that his talk of giving her away meant to whom he intended to give her.
Han Manyin looked at Lu Yi, feeling discontent, and even more perplexed as to why Shen Jiangli would want to pass her on to him?
There was no apparent connection of interest between them.
Lu Yi, too, sensed something off with his words, "President Shen, what do you mean by this?"
Shen Jiangli smiled faintly, "I mean it literally. I would like to entrust Manyin to you, to help look after her condition."
Lu Yunlan frowned.
She abruptly felt that there was some deceit at work, or if not, that Shen Jiangli had a purpose behind his actions.
Yet what was he plotting?
Lu Yi refused, saying, "I can contact specialists for President Shen, but as to taking care of her, I’m afraid I can’t do that."
Shen Jiangli laughed softly but did not immediately reply.
