She Asks for a Divorce Again
Chapter 256: Like

Chapter 256: Chapter 256: Like

Pei Yansi’s kiss was gentle.

It carried a hint of coolness and seemed a bit warm too. Shen Heyu couldn’t quite describe the feeling, but she always felt a tingling at the back of her neck and couldn’t help but shiver.

Pei Yansi felt her tremble, his thin lips curved into a shallow smile, and his gaze deepened as he moved closer to Shen Heyu and gently embraced her, "Heyu, Happy New Year."

His voice was so gentle that Shen Heyu momentarily let her guard down, feeling her heart beat erratically as if a deer were running amok.

She had felt this way many years ago. She hadn’t expected that today it would all come flooding back. She was momentarily at a loss, it had been so long that, at this moment, she didn’t know how to respond.

Pei Yansi seemed to notice her panic; he felt strange yet seemed to understand. Without a word, he gently bent down and lifted her face, placing a kiss on her lips.

"I will win you back," he said earnestly, as if making a promise and reminding himself.

Shen Heyu trembled slightly under his touch.

"I’ll take you home tomorrow," Pei Yansi spoke, "You don’t need to be guarded against me now, I won’t force you. Is that okay?"

He seemed to be gently pleading, respecting Shen Heyu’s wishes.

Shen Heyu quietly observed him, trying to discern the truth in his words, but after a long look, she couldn’t glean any clues.

She didn’t know whether to believe him or not, especially since this man’s previous tactics were exceptionally vile. If she misjudged him, she might fall into a deeper abyss.

"Heyu," seeing that she hadn’t immediately answered, Pei Yansi continued, "Trust me this time, give me this chance. I am just taking you home."

Whether she allowed him to take her or not didn’t really matter because he already knew her current address and even where she worked.

But that was a secret.

And all he did was have Zhao Jin covertly monitor her. He still hadn’t received her permission to visit her openly, which made him feel powerless.

If she agreed this time and he took her home, then he would have the chance to visit her openly in the future.

This was also a part of Pei Yansi’s plan.

Shen Heyu gazed at his face, and maybe it was the years of unrequited love that compelled her, she nodded her head hesitantly, agreeing to his request.

Pei Yansi was ecstatic, as he lifted her face and leaned down to kiss her lips, but she turned her head away.

"I only agreed to let you take me home," Shen Heyu said with cool eyes.

Pei Yansi paused for a moment and ultimately didn’t force her, and he obediently sat beside her, "Do I get a New Year’s gift?"

He asked proactively.

Regardless, he still hoped to receive a gift from her. He had always thought that such things were merely formalities and not important.

Thus, during the years they were married, he hardly ever gave her anything.

Because he thought that Shen Heyu, being cold in appearance, must think the same way he did, that these were just formalities and they didn’t matter.

Only now did he realize that giving gifts was a way of showing care.

If Shen Heyu gave him a gift, it might prove that she still harbored feelings for him.

He asked somewhat pitifully, hoping for a positive response, but Shen Heyu simply said indifferently, "I am here to spend New Year’s with my daughter, not with you, of course, I don’t have a gift."

Pei Yansi pursed his lips and lowered his head, looking somewhat stricken. Shen Heyu had never seen him this way and felt, for a moment, that he appeared rather pitiful.

But she wouldn’t sympathize with him.

Thinking of the suffering she endured those years, she couldn’t possibly feel sympathy for this man.

Pei Yansi sighed softly, as if he had anticipated the outcome, yet he couldn’t help but feel disappointed and had no one to blame. If he had to blame someone, it would only be himself.

He was right beside Shen Heyu, holding her in his arms as they watched the fireworks outside.

Suddenly, a particularly beautiful firework shot into the night sky and exploded magnificently.

Pei Yansi suddenly said, "I heard that making a wish upon fireworks can also come true. Would you like to try?"

Shen Heyu glanced at him curiously and said, "Do you actually believe in that?"

"I didn’t use to," Pei Yansi earnestly replied, "but since I lost you, I started to believe."

After all, he was hoping every day, hoping she would come back to him.

He had even foolishly made a wish upon the fireworks; whether it worked or not, he didn’t know.

But Pei Yansi really wanted to know if Shen Heyu made a wish upon the fireworks, what kind of wish she would make.

Only by knowing could he help her fulfill it.

Shen Heyu, unaware of his scheming, simply said, "I don’t believe in that."

"Give it a try," Pei Yansi stared deeply into her eyes and said very seriously, "You never know, it might come true."

Shen Heyu found him odd that evening.

Not only did he believe in making wishes, but he even actively asked her for a gift, a bit of caring love, which was not like him at all.

But after quietly watching him for a long while, she was also unable to resist the charm of the splendid fireworks outside and finally clasped her hands together and made a wish.

Pei Yansi watched her. "What wish did you make?"

"It won’t come true if I tell," Shen Heyu said with a smile.

Hearing this, Pei Yansi couldn’t help but say, "Didn’t you say this wasn’t believable? Why are you saying now that it can’t be told?"

She scratched her head, unable to explain why, but since she had made the wish, she felt it shouldn’t be told. Pei Yansi continued to coax gently, "All those are just tricks; you need to say your wish out loud for someone to hear, so they can help fulfill it, right?"

Shen Heyu thought about it and it seemed to make sense.

So she said, "I hope that the people I care about can all be safe and healthy."

This life, without disasters or trouble, everyone could pass through peacefully.

Pei Yansi did not expect that her wish would be so universal, not solely for herself.

He thought for a moment and asked, "Am I included in that?"

Was he an important person to her? Was he also someone she had wished for?

He suddenly really wanted to know.

His gaze was firmly locked on Shen Heyu, trying to discern from her demeanor if she was lying. However, no trace of dishonesty could be seen on Shen Heyu’s face; she said very frankly, "Of course not."

Pei Yansi had anticipated this, but hearing it from her still felt slightly uncomfortable.

He felt a slight stab of pain in his chest.

Shen Heyu noticed his discomfort. She increasingly felt that Pei Yansi had changed too much, including his attitude toward her.

She eventually couldn’t hold back and proactively asked, "Do you like me?"
