She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 255 New Year
Chapter 255: Chapter 255 New Year
"There’s nothing," Shen Heyu tried to gloss over it and looked away as if she hadn’t seen him.
Pei Yansi watched her for a few seconds but didn’t call her out. He sat next to her, stretched out his hand to block her waist, and drew her into his embrace.
This had seemingly become a habit.
Shen Heyu didn’t struggle and lay down on the bed with him. Pei Yansi held her tightly in his arms, his thin lips pressed against her forehead, gently kissing her, and said, "Get some rest early."
"Tomorrow I’ll give you a surprise."
Shen Heyu actually felt quite uneasy; Pei Yansi’s tenderness, which looked heartfelt, was something she didn’t believe he was capable of.
And during these days here, they had always been so intimate, as if they were a couple that had reconciled, but only she knew that everything she did was for her daughter.
To spend the New Year with her daughter, to give her a harmonious family, she could endure anything now.
Besides... she had to admit that she still harbored an extinguishable love for Pei Yansi. Only, this love was mixed with much hatred, hence it was somewhat unclear whether there was more love or more hate.
But if she had to say, she actually didn’t mind the intimacy that Pei Yansi afforded her.
It’s just that upon reflection, she felt ill-suited and somewhat resentful because she always felt that he didn’t truly love her.
Shen Heyu mused chaotically, felt her thoughts whirl, and eventually succumbed to sleepiness, falling into a deep sleep beside Pei Yansi.
Pei Yansi listened to the long and steady breath of the person in his arms, a slight smile curling his lips, and he gently lifted her nightgown.
He had already lit incense in the room, which had a certain effect, but surprisingly, even with that, she had managed to last this long.
He pulled her into his arms, turned over, and pressed her under his body...
...
The next morning, when Shen Heyu woke up, Pei Yansi had already left the room just like before, and the bedding beside her had also lost its warmth.
It seemed she had already gotten used to this, she got out of bed, went to the bathroom to wash up, and when she came downstairs, she saw her daughter and Pei Yansi already sitting at the dining table.
Yuexue, seeing Shen Heyu, was thrilled and shouted, "Mom, come quickly, the breakfast Dad made today is all your favorite!"
Shen Heyu walked to the dining table, glanced at the breakfast which indeed was to her liking. She looked at Pei Yansi next to her, didn’t say anything, and sat down.
Pei Yansi looked at her, "Today is New Year’s Eve."
Shen Heyu nodded, unsure of the purpose of his statement, as New Year’s Eve was something every family member knew about. And the servants of the Pei Mansion had already been granted leave for the holiday, leaving just the three of them in the vast mansion.
"I’ve prepared a surprise for you," Pei Yansi said, quietly observing her expression, hoping to see some delight, but she remained calm.
Showing no reaction.
As if she had no expectations for the surprise he mentioned.
Pei Yansi felt somewhat discouraged.
But he said nothing.
Time passed quickly, and by evening, Pei Yansi was busy in the kitchen preparing the New Year’s Eve dinner for the three of them. He had personally cooked all month, which was something he found easy to do.
Shen Heyu showed no intention of helping. She was in the living room with her daughter, watching TV and playing, laughing and making noise from time to time.
It was New Year’s Eve, and although the Pei Mansion was situated in the suburbs on high ground, one could see the cityscape. The city sprawled at the foot of the mountain, its neon lights coming on at night, still a bright gem in the darkness.
In the garden of the Pei Mansion, one could also see the city’s fireworks. The fireworks launched by people soared into the sky. Their fleeting beauty, though not everlasting, was enough to astonish anyone.
A family of three had just finished their New Year’s Eve dinner, and Shen Heyu took out a gift she had prepared early for her daughter.
It was a princess dress she had designed herself.
Every stitch, every aspect of the design, including the details, were crafted by Shen Heyu’s hands. She had spent a long time painstakingly designing it.
It contained her love for her daughter.
Yuexue loved it, hugging the princess dress while laughing and playing in Shen Heyu’s arms. She was full of laughter and thanks.
Pei Yansi had also given the gift he had prepared in advance to his daughter.
No matter what they gave, Yuexue loved it. She repeatedly thanked them, kissed her mom and dad on their faces, clamored to watch the Spring Festival Gala and the fireworks, and as time passed, she quickly became sleepy and went back to her room early.
Pei Yansi, as usual, soothed Yuexue to sleep.
After Yuexue fell asleep, he went to find Shen Heyu.
She was in the bridal chamber, sitting by a floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the night view of the mountains below the suburbs.
The fireworks were hazy, the city was bustling, and the scene was a beautiful sight to behold. Yet, in her heart, she felt somewhat melancholic.
She heard footsteps behind her.
Without turning around, she knew who it was.
Pei Yansi held a box in his hand; he walked over to Shen Heyu, pulled up a chair beside her, and then took her hand, cradling it in his and asked, "Isn’t it cold sitting here?"
The window was not closed, and the cold wind intermittently rushed in, while Shen Heyu was only in her nightgown, which was far too lightweight for this season and time.
But Shen Heyu seemed not to mind.
She shook her head, looking at Pei Yansi and said, "I’m leaving tomorrow. I hope you remember what I told you last night."
Last night she had told him that although she was leaving, she would come back every week to see her daughter, and regarding the matter of Shen Jiangli, if there were any clues, she must be notified.
Pei Yansi’s eyes darkened, and he subdued the fierceness in them without letting Shen Heyu notice, and he replied somberly, "I understand."
"But are you leaving this early?" He still hoped she would stay a few more days.
After all, there were so many days over the New Year’s holiday, and yet she was only willing to stay for New Year’s Eve.
Shen Heyu shook her head, declining.
Pei Yansi lowered his head, said nothing more, but opened the box he held in his hands, presenting it before her.
Inside was a necklace.
A sapphire with a South African diamond, clearly very expensive, intricately carved, with a delicate gem surface that, under the neon lights, shimmered brilliantly. It was like a timeless piece of exquisite jewelry.
"A New Year’s gift for you," Pei Yansi said, standing up behind her, "Let me put it on for you."
Shen Heyu froze, wanting to refuse, but Pei Yansi was already a step ahead; he placed the necklace around her neck, quickly securing it.
The necklace was cool, bringing a chill the moment it touched her skin, but soon, it warmed up, infected by her own body heat.
Pei Yansi finished fastening it and bent down to gently place a kiss on Shen Heyu’s neck.
