She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 254 Pretense
Chapter 254: Chapter 254 Pretense
Shen Heyu cut to the chase with her questioning.
She needed a clear answer, not his ambiguous evasion. She looked into his eyes, "Tell me the truth."
This time, Pei Yansi did not hesitate.
Many things, once started, followed by a second, just like what he was telling Shen Heyu now.
He spoke solemnly, "It was him. But we are still gathering evidence, nothing is fully confirmed yet."
Shen Heyu frowned tightly, "When did you find out?"
"During those days abroad."
Pei Yansi didn’t keep Shen Heyu in the dark about this matter, and he seriously said, "I originally wanted to tell you, but then you told me a white lie. So I hesitated."
That’s why the issue had been delayed.
It had dragged on until now, until she discovered it herself.
Shen Heyu lowered her eyelashes, her long lashes hiding her emotions from view, only revealing her drooping shoulders, a picture of discouragement and dejection.
Watching her like this left a bad taste in Pei Yansi’s mouth. He reached out to draw her into his embrace.
This time, she did not dodge.
He paused momentarily, rarely enjoying this moment of compliance, holding her tightly against his chest, and said to her, "The matter is not yet settled, no need to be too upset. Whatever happens, I will be by your side."
In reality, his words were tantamount to a confession.
But Shen Heyu remained unmoved, simply nestling in his arms, the place she had always scorned, yet now she found a moment of peace.
"If you find evidence, you must tell me."
This might be the last thing she could do for her sister.
If Shen Jiangli had truly hurt Shen Fanshuang, she would never let it go.
Even if it could mean the end of their friendship.
But what puzzled her even more was how all these years passed, and Shen Jianglin had been by her side for so long, yet there hadn’t been any hint of this incident?
Only now had Pei Yansi begun to uncover something.
"Is he deceiving me?" This was the only answer in Shen Heyu’s heart. She lifted her head, gazing into Pei Yansi’s eyes, "Does he know about this, is it deliberate, or did he unintentionally hurt her?"
Pei Yansi reached out, gently stroking Shen Heyu’s hair, a comforting gesture, "Perhaps he doesn’t know Shen Fanshuang."
After all, Zhao Jin had said, back then Shen Jiangli looked as if he was there to find Shen Heyu. But in the bar, it seemed he mistook someone else for her. It was his lieutenant who made a move and accidentally hurt Shen Fanshuang.
Now he could only comfort her as best as he could.
Even though he didn’t want Shen Jiangli to keep a good image in her eyes, he still couldn’t bear to see her hurt.
She fell silent, quietly buried in his embrace, her thoughts unknown.
A long time passed, and the study remained quiet until, finally, Shen Heyu spoke again, "After the New Year, I will leave. I came to talk to you about seeing our daughter every week. You cannot stop me, nor can you force me to stay."
Pei Yansi paused upon hearing this, she was still the same as before, always fantasizing about the day she would leave when she was near him. Up to now, he had decided to conquer her with a gentle facade.
Thus, he didn’t forcefully say anything, just faintly nodded, "Come back when you want, stay if you wish, I will not interfere."
Pei Yansi suddenly became so easy to talk to, leaving her somewhat unaccustomed. She quietly observed his face, trying to discern if this man had been replaced by heaven.
Pei Yansi noticed her expression and asked in bewilderment, "What are you looking at?" There was no hint of reproach in his voice, just pure curiosity, for her gaze was as if she had seen a ghost.
Shen Heyu shook her head, "I feel like you’ve become a completely different person."
Pei Yansi chuckled lightly and hugged her even tighter, "I’m the real deal."
She didn’t speak.
Her mind was still preoccupied with Shen Jiangli’s situation.
"Go rest," Pei Yansi said, holding her.
By now it was quite late, and tomorrow was New Year’s Eve, with much to be done. Most importantly, tomorrow he planned to take them, mother and daughter, out for an atypical New Year’s.
This was also the first New Year that the three of them would spend together as a family.
Shen Heyu nodded. She looked intently at Pei Yansi and saw a hint of dark circles under his eyes, as if he hadn’t had a proper rest in a very long time.
After some thought, she eventually said, "You should also rest well."
Pei Yansi paused, not expecting her concern. A sincere smile appeared on the corner of his lips, "I’ll come soon."
Her face flushed a bit at his words.
It sounded as though she was waiting for him, hurrying him to bed.
Shen Heyu glanced at him and turned away. Pei Yansi quickly finished his last bit of work in the study, then closed his laptop and made his way to the bedroom he shared with Shen Heyu.
When he arrived, Shen Heyu had just finished washing up.
"Are you used to living here?" Pei Yansi asked, even though he knew the answer.
He clearly noticed that these past few days, Shen Heyu had been adjusting in many ways, not as resistant as before; even if he carried her into their bedroom, she wasn’t as opposed to it as she had been at first.
And Shen Heyu was evidently more aware of this than he was.
By saying this, it was as though she was slapping her own face. Her cheeks reddened, "It’s fine. I’ll leave after the New Year."
Pei Yansi pursed his lips and didn’t respond to her comment. He walked to the bed and arranged the covers, "You sleep first."
After saying this, he took some clothes from the wardrobe and headed to the bathroom. Shen Heyu sat on the bed, listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom, feeling that the events of the recent days seemed almost dreamlike.
Why would she be getting along so amicably with Pei Yansi?
This wasn’t like her.
Shen Heyu sighed and warned herself not to be fooled by Pei Yansi’s behavior. He must be pretending, disguising himself as a normal person when, in reality, he might be scheming against her behind her back.
Laying a long line to catch a big fish.
If that truly was the case, she would never be able to escape from him.
While she was lost in her thoughts, the bathroom door suddenly opened. Following the sound, she saw Pei Yansi, with only a towel wrapped around his lower body, step out of the bathroom, his gaze locked onto her.
Heyu felt an inexplicable tension in her heart.
This man... no matter what their relationship had been in the past, with their current awkward status, he should at least put on his clothes properly, right?
Pei Yansi approached the side of the bed, effortlessly noticing her flushed cheeks. He let out a faint laugh, "Why is your face red?"
"..." If possible, she really wanted to slap him to death.
