She Asks for a Divorce Again
Chapter 248: Stay Behind

Chapter 248: Chapter 248: Stay Behind

"What do you mean by that?"

Shen Heyu was startled by his words, thinking he had really changed, only to find that before they even finished their meal, he started talking about her staying again.

She didn’t come here to stay, and he should know that better than anyone.

Pei Yansi looked at her when he heard her.

He saw a clear resistance in her eyes, very obvious, with a hint of disgust.

It was just like how it used to be.

If he pressed her too hard, maybe all his efforts for so long would have been in vain. Pei Yansi realized this problem, suppressed the longing in his heart, and tried to keep his expression gentle, saying to Shen Heyu:

"Don’t overthink, I mean nothing else. I just hope you can stay, it’s already late now, and with the New Year coming, the roads are slippery with snow, and it’s very unsafe to drive."

Pei Yansi paused, trying to make his voice gentle and purposeless, "It just so happens I want you to stay to spend the New Year with your daughter."

Shen Heyu didn’t speak immediately.

Just because Pei Yansi appeared very gentle and calm. She didn’t quite understand if this was just an act or if he had indeed changed so much over the past month.

Before she could speak, she heard her daughter say, "Yes, Mom, aren’t you staying for the New Year? But Yuexue really misses you."

Her daughter blinked her large, grape-like eyes, staring intensely at the expectation in Shen Heyu’s eyes, leaving nothing unsaid.

Pei Yansi looked at his daughter, his heart filled with joy.

As expected.

With Yuexue’s help, maybe Heyu would be more likely to compromise and listen.

He didn’t make his pleasure too obvious.

He just quietly watched Shen Heyu, not pressing her for an answer. As if he would accept her decision no matter what, calmly and composedly.

Although that was just the surface.

Since she had come tonight, he wasn’t going to let her go in a short time; even if she refused tonight, he would use every means to forcibly make her stay.

Shen Heyu sneakily glanced at him twice.

Trying to discern if there was a hidden meaning in his words.

Was it sincere? But there were no flaws on Pei Yansi’s face, as if he had indeed reformed; she felt puzzled.

Pei Yansi looked at her, seeing through her thoughts. He seemed casually to ask, "What’s wrong?"

"Nothing," Shen Heyu shook her head, pretending she hadn’t seen anything, she still didn’t give Pei Yansi a definite answer about whether to stay or not.

Pei Yansi didn’t urge her.

Only because he knew she definitely couldn’t escape tonight.

Yuexue also didn’t get an answer from Mommy. Compared to Pei Yansi’s composure, she was just a child, naturally worried, so she eagerly urged Shen Heyu, saying, "Mommy, don’t you want to stay? Is work that busy?"

"Since that’s the case, Yuexue will be very good and won’t rush you, but you should take care of yourself too."

Her daughter said sensibly as she looked at Shen Heyu.

Hearing her daughter say this, she had a hard time keeping it together.

Seeing that Pei Yansi was acting normal, she didn’t think too much about it and said, "No, Mommy will stay to spend the New Year with you."

"Really?!" Yuexue was thrilled, swallowing several mouthfuls of food, and her eyes were filled with joy and reliance.

"Of course, it’s true."

Shen Heyu never deceived her daughter.

It was only because she had been deceived by her parents in her childhood that she understood that feeling. She did not deceive her daughter, and on the other hand, she was also honoring a promise to her childhood self.

Pei Yansi, sitting on the other side, heard her words, lifted his head, looked at her, and his lips slightly curled into a smile of triumph.

He knew that as long as it involved his daughter, Shen Heyu would definitely agree. The New Year was approaching, and he would have plenty of opportunities to talk to Shen Heyu and persuade her to stay.

Shen Heyu put down her chopsticks, and as she looked up, she saw Pei Yansi’s deep gaze fixed on her, making her heart skip a beat.

"What are you looking at?" she asked with a chilly warning in her voice. Pei Yansi chuckled and replied, "Nothing."

"I want to stay in the guest room."

Having said that, Shen Heyu realized it wasn’t quite right—this was Pei Yansi’s house, and no matter which room she stayed in, wouldn’t it still be easy for him to enter if he wanted to? So she quickly corrected herself, "I’ll stay with my daughter in one room."

"That’s fine." Pei Yansi seemed agreeable to everything.

As long as she was in the same room with her daughter, Pei Yansi couldn’t do as he pleased.

Although she thought so, she didn’t know that Pei Yansi had already hatched a cunning plan.

What did it matter if she was in the same room with her daughter? It was his house, her escape was unavoidable tonight.

He had to make sure she would stay tonight.

Yet Pei Yansi was also worried he might scare Shen Heyu away by being too eager.

After dinner, the atmosphere among the three of them seemed much more relaxed; they were like the harmonious family of three they used to be.

At night, Pei Yansi coaxed his daughter to sleep, and then went to see Shen Heyu.

She had just finished washing up in their matrimonial room and was preparing to go to her daughter’s bedroom.

Unexpectedly, she ran into Pei Yansi as she stepped out.

She took two steps back defensively and asked, "What do you want?"

Pei Yansi, seeing her guarded expression, sighed helplessly and said earnestly, "I just came to see if you could find any clothes."

"I found them, thank you," Shen Heyu said coldly, sidestepping him and intending to leave.

But as she walked past him, Pei Yansi reached out and grabbed her wrist. He turned his head, gazing silently at her, and said, "Are you really not considering coming back?"

"I think we don’t need to discuss that issue anymore."

Her answer was a refusal.

Pei Yansi sighed, "Alright, I’ll walk you there."

Though it was only a few steps from there to her daughter’s room.

Shen Heyu did not refuse.

Because she knew she couldn’t refuse him.

However, from what she observed tonight, he had indeed changed a lot, and she didn’t feel the fear of him that she had before.

Just as Shen Heyu thought this, Pei Yansi shattered her illusion that night.

She was holding her daughter, asleep in her dreams when she heard the door to the room pushed open. Always vigilant, she instantly woke up.

Her eyes opened in the darkness, and she saw Pei Yansi’s tall figure by the door, walking toward her; Shen Heyu’s heart clenched.

Trying not to wake her daughter, she kept her voice very low and asked, "What are you here for?"

Pei Yansi stretched out his arms and embraced her without a word, carrying her away from her daughter’s room.

They came to their old matrimonial room, and Pei Yansi lay her down on the soft, large bed.
