Chapter 241 Retention

Chapter 241: Chapter 241 Retention

Pei Yansi’s eyes were quick and hands faster, as he grabbed her wrist and wrapped his other arm around her waist, pulling her into his embrace.

Shen Heyu toppled backward into his arms.

Her descending weight also made Pei Yansi’s heels unstable, and with the mountainous terrain being steep and difficult, he too started falling backward.

The moment they fell, he held Shen Heyu tightly in his arms.

Shen Heyu felt his embrace was incredibly strong as if he wanted to meld her into his very bones. Before she had time to react, all she heard was a thud, and the two of them fell together into the snowy ground.

Immediately after, she heard a muffled groan from beneath her.

The pain Shen Heyu had braced for didn’t come.

Looking up, she saw herself lying on top of Pei Yansi, while his back had forcefully struck the ground.

That muffled groan had escaped from his throat.

Clearly, it had been a hard fall.

Shen Heyu hurriedly got off him and let him help her to her feet, "How do you feel?" she asked, frowning with unabashed concern.

Pei Yansi was indeed in pain, but seeing her look of concern, he suddenly felt it had subsided.

"Are you worried about me?" he asked.

Shen Heyu glanced at him, noticing his clear eyes and the smile on his lips—he hardly looked like someone who had just fallen.

She snorted coldly, "Like I’d be worried about you."

Saying so, she tried to get up from the ground.

Pei Yansi swiftly grasped her hand.

In the winter, they both were dressed warmly, so even now, sitting in a heap of snow, they didn’t feel cold.

He pulled Shen Heyu close to himself, close enough to see the distinct lashes around her eyes.

Snowflakes landed on her eyes and melted on her lashes, looking like glistening teardrops.

"If you admitted it, it wouldn’t be a big deal. But your stubbornness makes it all the more obvious to me that you’re worried," Pei Yansi said in a deep voice, leisurely watching her.

Shen Heyu pursed her lips, offering no reply.

Snowflakes continued to whirl from the sky, and as they quietly locked eyes, they read the tender affection deeply buried within each other.

Eventually, Pei Yansi smiled, not teasing her any further. He rose from the ground, brushing off the snow from his clothes.

"Let me help you," he offered his hand to Shen Heyu once more.

Shen Heyu paused for a moment, looking at the large palm before her, and finally placed her hand in his.

His palm was warm.

It seemed to sever itself from the winter chill, as his warmth flowed continuously from his palm into her body, warming even Shen Heyu’s heart.

"If you can’t walk, just say so. I’ll carry you," Pei Yansi said, looking at her.

Shen Heyu nodded.

This time, she wasn’t too stubborn. After all, she already felt fatigued and they hadn’t even reached halfway up the mountain.

Holding Pei Yansi’s hand, she tried to continue walking, but soon she couldn’t move any longer.

Her pace slowed, yet the man in front of her maintained a steady gait as if he possessed an endless supply of energy.

But she was reluctant to admit out loud that she couldn’t go on.

So she followed behind him, forcing herself to keep up.

Pei Yansi hadn’t walked far when he sensed something was off with her.

He turned his head to look at her. "Can’t walk anymore?"

Shen Heyu bit her lower lip and nodded, her cheeks flush with involuntary redness. Before the hike, she had adamantly stated she didn’t need assistance.

But then she thought, it was Pei Yansi who had brought her here, so he ought to carry her.

Observing her expression, Pei Yansi seemed to see right through her.

With a smile playing on his lips, he crouched in front of her, "Come on."

He patted his own back.

Shen Heyu didn’t hesitate, climbing onto his back.

Pei Yansi easily hoisted her up.

Even with her on his back, his stride was steady and his speed not any less than before. But one could see, because of her, he took each step with even more caution.

It was the fear of stumbling and causing her to fall.

Finally, Pei Yansi reached the mountain summit with her on his back.

During the climb, Shen Heyu had her arms around his neck on his back, looking down to see his footprints stamping one after another in the snow.

Deeper than those of others.

Because he was carrying someone else on his back.

In that instant, it felt as though those footprints were left by them together. She felt a subtle sensation deep inside her.

At the mountaintop, Pei Yansi set her down.

By then, dawn was gradually breaking, the misty blue of the early morning sky dispersing, revealing in the far distance atop the mountain peak a golden sun slowly making its appearance.

There were already many people on the mountaintop now, and in the midst of the crowd, Pei Yansi kept a firm grip on her hand.

Holding her completely by his side.

The two of them watched the same sunrise.

The sun slowly peeked out, its golden light spreading across the land, and the fiery red of sunrise radiated intense hope.

In the golden light, their shadows lengthened, cast upon the ground.

Just by looking at the shadows, they resembled a couple deeply in love, clinging to each other unwilling to part.

"If I could," he suddenly whispered in her ear, "I wish I could come to accompany you to watch the sunrise whenever I wanted."

Shen Heyu felt a slight tremor in her heart.

He didn’t say he would accompany her every day, which was unrealistic and far too absolute. Instead, he spoke of being able to watch it together whenever the desire struck.

It was a supernatural kind of relationship.

It was also an embodiment that she would always be with him.

Like a longing for their relationship. Shen Heyu had never imagined that he would one day take the initiative to say these words to her.

Speaking of this connection, he was also looking forward to their future. Only everything had come too late.

Therefore, Shen Heyu gave no response.

She just quietly watched that sunrise.

Pei Yansi didn’t receive a reply, feeling a quiet sense of loss, but he didn’t show it. He turned to her and gazed silently at her face.

She watched the sunrise for a long while.

He watched her for a long while too.

In this moment, he suddenly found it hard to let her go, thinking of breaking his word. How could he let her leave in three days?

Pei Yansi reached out, smoothing down her hair. Her long black hair was soft and smooth, slipping through his fingers like silky satin, exuding a faint fragrance.

"Suddenly, I find it hard to let go of you," he said deeply, gazing at her.

Shen Heyu was startled upon hearing this, her heart skipping a beat.

"Are you having second thoughts?" she asked him, somewhat disappointed.

Pei Yansi’s gaze never left her.

He saw it clearly, the flicker of disappointment in her eyes.

Had she already sentenced him to death without him having said anything?

The dim light in her eyes pierced his heart.

"No, I will still let you go," Pei Yansi’s voice deepened, tinged with helplessness and defeat.

"But I will also win you back."

Or more like snatch you back. In any case, this time, if she would come back to him,

He would never let go again.
