Chapter 235: Chapter 335: Pretending to be Sick
Lu Yi opened his bleary eyes.
Actually, he wasn’t sick at all.
But thinking of Shen Heyu being with Pei Yansi, he wanted to find an excuse to pull her to his side.
After much consideration, he chose this method, which wasn’t very nice, but at least it achieved his desired goal.
The more he thought about it, the more pitiful Lu Yi pretended to be, his eyes looked hazy, lacking any luster, as if he were genuinely severely ill.
Shen Heyu looked at him and asked in surprise, "Why do you have such a high fever? Didn’t you go see a doctor?"
Lu Yi’s reply sounded weak and breathless, "I am a doctor... just, not very energetic."
Shen Heyu furrowed her brows, not sure what to do. She felt that she should take him to the hospital and said, "Should I take you to see a doctor?"
Lu Yi was unwilling; he finally had this opportunity to be alone with her and wouldn’t easily let it slip away.
He quickly said, "No need, really no need for now, just let me lie down, and you can just give me some medicine."
Shen Heyu responded with an "Oh," but was still worried and said, "Are you sure you don’t need it?"
Lu Yi nodded and said, "I am a doctor, I know it’s nothing serious, just need to take some medicine and sleep... It’s just that I don’t have the strength to get up and prepare these myself, so that’s why..."
Having said that, he glanced at her, then guiltily lowered his head and added, "You don’t think I’m being excessive, do you? Wasting your time like this."
Shen Heyu shook her head, "Of course not, you’ve helped me a lot before."
That’s when he finally smiled, but the smile seemed somewhat feeble, even uglier than crying.
He said, "I haven’t had breakfast yet, I need to eat before I can take any medicine."
Shen Heyu agreed and called the front desk for breakfast. After ordering several of his favorite dishes, it wasn’t long before a waiter came in pushing a small dining cart.
However, accompanying the waiter was Pei Yansi.
Pei Yansi pushed open the door, dressed in his casual home attire, which made his demeanor seem gentler, but his eyes still held a cold gleam, betraying no warmth.
Instead, his usual indifference gave off an intimidating, unapproachable presence.
Upon entering, Pei Yansi saw Lu Yi ’very weakly’ leaning on the couch, the waiter was arranging the food, and Shen Heyu was sitting right beside him.
Pei Yansi was immediately infuriated.
Was she going to personally feed Lu Yi now?
He strode forward and stopped beside Shen Heyu, standing over her and looking down.
She frowned and asked in confusion, "Why are you here?"
Pei Yansi smiled faintly, a smile that didn’t reach his eyes, and said, "You don’t want me to be here?" It was a rhetorical question; she obviously didn’t want him here, not for any other reason but because she disliked his unreasonably jealous behavior, making faces at Lu Yi.
Lu Yi was her friend, and he couldn’t be giving her friend cold looks.
Otherwise, it was like giving her cold looks as well.
However, this time Pei Yansi seemed to have learned his lesson and said in a grave voice, "I’ve come to take care of him, you go aside."
Since she refused to hire a nurse and insisted on coming herself, then let him do it.
After all, as a grown man, he could certainly take care of Lu Yi, especially since she was also here and would definitely be able to see Lu Yi’s condition.
Pei Yan watched to see what other excuse she had for getting close to Lu Yi.
Getting close to other men irritated him.
Lu Yi looked at his expression. Men understand men best, of course. He knew what he was thinking and, feeling rather displeased and even somewhat speechless, tried to send him away by saying, "President Pei, this isn’t right, is it?"
"Not right? Why isn’t it right?"
Pei Yansi asked, "Is it that I haven’t taken good care of you? From what you’re saying, should Heyu be the one to take care of you? She’s legally my wife, don’t you know?"
Lu Yi didn’t speak.
He glanced at Shen Heyu. Of course, he knew. But she had never done anything inappropriate; it was all his own presumption.
The waiter had already set up the breakfast and left with the cart.
After the waiter left, he closed the room door. Before leaving, he cast a particularly telling glance in Shen Heyu’s direction.
The look was brimming with gossip.
Shen Heyu pursed her lips, quite speechless.
At that moment, Pei Yansi handed the food to Lu Yi with a small, teasing smile. "Doctor Lu, eat. After you eat, I’ll get you some fever medicine."
He directly set the bowl and chopsticks in front of him.
Lu Yi had wanted to act spoiled and use various tactics to get Shen Heyu to feed him breakfast. But Pei Yansi’s intervention had thrown all his plans into disarray.
He didn’t know what to say and just looked at Shen Heyu.
Pei Yansi discerned the meaning behind his look and frowned, "Aren’t you going to eat breakfast? What are you looking at?"
After speaking, he reached out to pull Shen Heyu’s hand.
On her ring finger was a ring, featuring a tiny fish-shaped diamond that gleamed brightly—clearly a match to the one on his finger.
From this, their relationship was self-explanatory.
Lu Yi frowned, of course knowing what Pei Yansi was trying to show.
Lu Yi turned his gaze away and took the food from the table, beginning to eat breakfast in haste.
Shen Heyu watched the two men, faintly sensing the undercurrents between them. But she said nothing, just sat on the other side in silence.
The meal was eaten in an odd atmosphere. Lu Yi barely tasted his food and, after a few bites, stopped eating. Pei Yansi saw him lay down his bowl and chopsticks and deliberately said, "Is that all you’re eating?"
He nodded and looked at Shen Heyu.
Pei Yansi added, "You need to take medicine next, right? Where’s the medicine? I’ll get it for you."
Lu Yi was faking illness; he didn’t need medicine. But it seemed as though Pei Yansi had caught onto something, seated beside him, persisting pressuringly, "Why aren’t you speaking?"
Lu Yi replied, "There’s no need for medicine. I’ll just sleep it off. You two should go first." Seeing how forceful Pei Yansi was, he no longer wanted to pretend to be sick; he knew his actions had been found out by Pei Yansi.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so aggressively inquisitive.
But Pei Yansi wasn’t willing to let it go; he let out a cold laugh and pulled out a thermometer from his pocket. He had come prepared and said to Lu Yi, "How can that be acceptable? Doctor Lu, you have a fever. What if it gets worse without medicine?"
"Maybe we should just check your temperature first?"
Shen Heyu hadn’t expected he’d bring a thermometer, but then she thought about it and realized she hadn’t taken his temperature either. She said, "Right, Doctor Lu, I don’t think I took your temperature earlier either."
Lu Yi frowned; if he had his temperature taken, he’d be exposed.
