Chapter 234: Chapter 334 She Leaves

The thought had barely crossed Pei Yansi’s mind when he heard Shen Heyu say, "He has no one by his side now, and as a friend, I should naturally look after him."

Pei Yansi couldn’t help but let out a cold laugh upon hearing this.

It seemed that it was just as he had said; she was indeed going to accompany Lu Yi. She wasn’t even hiding it, showing her affection for another man right in front of him.

His eyes grew dark, staring at Shen Heyu as if brewing a deep storm. He grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the room, saying, "I won’t allow you to go; I can find someone to take care of him. You cannot."

It was just a caretaker, after all; he could afford it.

Shen Heyu frowned, unable to match Pei Yansi’s strength. Dragged along by him, she had no chance to retaliate.

She didn’t understand and said forcefully, "I really don’t get it; what do you mean by this? Can’t you be reasonable? If it were your friend..."

"I have no friends."

He cut her off directly, pulling her onto the sofa in the bedroom, his tall frame standing in front of her, blocking her way.

He would not let her leave, no matter what.

Shen Heyu looked up at him, at a loss for words; she couldn’t find any adjective to describe Pei Yansi.

She furrowed her brows and said, "That’s you, you have no social circle, but that shouldn’t stop me."

Pei Yansi said, "You are my wife by law," again using this fact to suppress her.

She couldn’t find the words to reply.

She was silent, looking up at the tall man in front of her. Even though she knew reasoning with him was futile, she still harbored hope in her heart and said, "Why do you always have to be like this? By pushing me away, do you know that love isn’t about control?"

Pei Yansi didn’t answer; he remained silent, unsure of how to respond to her. Seeing her so disappointed and sad made his heart bleed as if it were dripping blood.

Why was she always like this?

Arguing incessantly with him over other men, first Shen Jiangli and now Lu Yi. Moreover, he still believed that Lu Yi had secretly followed them, not coming here for any academic research.

Shen Heyu didn’t know what he was thinking. Seeing his silence, she thought maybe her words had penetrated.

She said with a grave tone, "Let me go see him; as a friend, being in a foreign land like this..."

Pei Yansi couldn’t hear her showing concern for another man. He wouldn’t tolerate a single word of it and interrupted her, saying, "Do you really have to go this time?"

Shen Heyu nodded, her gaze firm as she looked at him, "Even if it’s just this seven-day bond, I still hope I can have enough freedom. Otherwise, I’ll never change my view of you."

Hearing her last words truly frightened Pei Yansi.

He feared that she would never change her opinion of him, and then he would never be able to redeem himself in front of her, nor compete fairly with Shen Jiangli and others.

In that case, he would have already lost at the starting line.

Pei Yansi forcefully suppressed the malice in his heart, along with his jealousy of other men.

He had always thought that such feelings of jealousy were exceedingly contemptible, characteristics of mostly vulgar people tormented by such dark emotions.

But now he had to admit that he was indeed driven to madness by jealousy in his heart.

Why, exactly?

He couldn’t understand. He just looked at Shen Heyu’s beautiful face and felt increasingly stifled. After a long silence, Pei Yansi finally stepped aside and said to her, "Go then,"

As he spoke, he lowered his head, not daring to look at Shen Heyu.

He couldn’t bear to look.

He was afraid that if he took one look, he wouldn’t dare to let go.

He didn’t want to let go.

He despised himself for his actions and feelings and felt inferior.

Shen Heyu saw him, a tall man who was now bowing his head, hunched over, saying nothing, and looking somewhat desolate as if he had let go of the most important thing in his life.

But this was a good opportunity.

Shen Heyu didn’t say much to him anymore, just stood up from the sofa and walked out of the room. When she reached the entranceway, she couldn’t help but turn her head to look at him and said in a deep voice, "I’ll be back later."

He didn’t answer.

He just lowered his head; the sunlight from outside shining on him made his tall figure seem to cast a shadow of grand desolation.

Without waiting for his reply, Shen Heyu turned and left.

Hearing the sound of the door closing, Pei Yansi finally looked up and saw that the door had been firmly shut, and Shen Heyu’s footsteps had already faded away from his ears.

He remained silent for a long time before he walked into the study, where Yuexue was still sleeping in. He didn’t call for his daughter.

Not long after Pei Yansi entered the study, Zhao Jin arrived.

Upon entering, Zhao Jin sensed the somber atmosphere surrounding him and could surmise that he was very unhappy.

He held his breath and didn’t dare say much, only saying, "President Pei, about that matter, I’ve found out some things."

Pei Yansi looked up at him, knowing he was referring to the matter about Shen Fanshuang.

"Let’s hear it."

"Originally, Shen Jiangli returned to find Miss Shen, but somehow, he ran into Shen Fanshuang at the bar. However, it wasn’t done by him personally but by his right-hand man."

Pei Yansi was silent for a few seconds, "Then who is the person in prison?"

"It was someone who took the blame."

Pei Yansi twirled the pen in his hand, pondering the implication of those words, which meant that the person was merely brought by Shen Jiangli to take the blame.

He clearly knew that Shen Fanshuang had been harmed by his people and maybe even realized he had pursued the wrong person, but he had always hidden in the shadows and never showed himself.

He asked, "Has Shen Jiangli noticed anything yet?"

Zhao Jin shook his head, "No."

Pei Yansi pondered for a moment, then heard Zhao Jin add, "He’s with Han Manyin every day now, not sure why. But in my opinion, he might genuinely have feelings for Han Manyin."

"Han Manyin?"

Pei Yansi remembered the woman, who looked similar to Shen Fanshuang and thus slightly resembled Shen Heyu.

If one didn’t know them, they might think the two were sisters.

He said, "That’s unlikely." Shen Jiangli wouldn’t be interested in someone like Han Manyin; there must be another reason.

Zhao Jin asked, "What should we do now?"

"Continue investigating, but don’t startle the snake."

Zhao Jin nodded and then left.

In the room next to theirs was Lu Yi’s room. When Shen Heyu arrived, she saw him lying on the bed, his face perhaps flushed from a fever.

Shen Heyu walked over to the side of the bed, deliberately keeping her distance, and asked, "Are you feeling better?"
