She Asks for a Divorce Again
Chapter 233 - 333: The Gift

Chapter 233: Chapter 333: The Gift

Shen Heyu didn’t speak, she just glanced at the long black overcoat Pei Yansi was wearing.

Even though it was almost deep winter, he still wore what seemed like quite a thin garment.

Yuexue was always very excited, yelling the whole way, calling out at the sight of this and that. Now that the New Year was approaching, the city abroad was imitating Chinese Spring Festival customs, sometimes overzealously, and there had been fireworks going off throughout the city for some time.

But they were all in designated areas.

Standing atop a tall tower, they could see the most beautiful night scene, with fireworks and neon lights sparkling together in the busy city below.

Shen Heyu was awestruck by this beauty.

She gazed at the distant neon lights, millions of them twinkling, all converging in the distance, like a galaxy that had fallen to earth. She exclaimed in surprise, "Yuexue, look quickly."

Her daughter, put down from Pei Yansi’s arms, crawled next to Shen Heyu, and they cheered together at the distant lights.

Shen Heyu kept looking at the lights in the distance and didn’t notice Pei Yansi by her side, who had been watching her all along.

He watched the two of them, one big and one small, both equally important to his life, their bright faces reflecting the glow, more enchanting than the spectacular night scene.

Shen Heyu suddenly turned her head and met Pei Yansi’s gaze, which was fiery and filled with tender affection, deeply loving, as if revealing how much he loved her.

He was about to speak when he suddenly walked up to her and took out a jewelry box from his coat. With the neon night as a backdrop, Shen Heyu saw that it was from that same store whose logo he insisted on visiting for a custom design.

She was stunned for a moment, vaguely understanding what he intended to do.

Her heart, inexplicably and uncontrollably, began to race at this moment. Pei Yansi opened the jewelry box without saying a word, took out the ring inside,

grabbed her hand, and slid the ring onto her finger without any further explanation.

Shen Heyu looked at the ring now on her ring finger, the little fish-shaped one he had custom-made, its inner band engraved with the initials of his name.

Shen Heyu had always thought that engraving initials was a rather childish act, but now seeing it from Pei Yansi, she felt inexplicably... odd about it.

Not childish.

She couldn’t refuse. She had no ground to refuse within these seven days.

Just then, Pei Yansi told her to look up at the sky.

Obediently, Shen Heyu looked up and saw countless sky lanterns floating in the night sky, all of them coming together, dazzling like another kind of star, as if someone were deliberately controlling them to slowly gather.

Eventually, they formed a line of words.

Shen Heyu looked at the line of words, frowning slightly.

Yuexue beside her yelled in surprise, "Mom, look!"

Those were her own name, and other than that, there were no other words.

But the intention was clear, and it was obvious who had arranged it. She turned to look at Pei Yansi.

Behind him were the bustling lights of the night and the sky lanterns rising into the night sky.

His overcoat had picked up the winter’s cold breeze.

Shen Heyu said, "Did you do this on purpose?"

"For you," Pei Yansi said, "consider it our wedding anniversary."

He didn’t need to say it, Shen Heyu had not even remembered. This was indeed the anniversary of their past marriage, just a few days away.

That marriage from so many years ago.

Shen Heyu hadn’t expected he would remember.

Pei Yansi walked up to her and gently wrapped his arms around her, joining her in gazing at the night scenery here while Yuexue chatted and laughed happily beside them.

To an outsider, they appeared to be an extremely happy family of three, but only Pei Yansi and Shen Heyu knew in their hearts that today was already the fourth day.

Their final moments together were dwindling to just three days left.

Shen Heyu would not stay; she wouldn’t be by his side. She knew that.

Pei Yansi pursed his lips and remained silent, feeling that this year’s winter wind seemed colder than before.

The night-viewing was soon over, primarily because the wind was so strong atop the lighthouse. Yuexue hadn’t stood long before she began to sneeze, and Shen Heyu, knowing her poor health since childhood, didn’t dare linger and suggested they head back to the hotel.

Once Yuexue was back, Pei Yansi took her to have a warm bath, leaving Shen Heyu sitting alone in the living room, looking down at the ring on her ring finger.

She couldn’t quite define the feeling in her heart.

She was certain she would leave and not stay, yet when she saw the ring appear, she couldn’t help the ache in her heart.

If she and Pei Yansi had met in a different way, might the outcome have been better?

As Shen Heyu pondered this, the bathroom door opened, and Pei Yansi, carrying Yuexue, came out; he took their daughter to another room to rest before coming back to look for her.

He sat next to her and stretched out his hand, pulling her tightly into his embrace, his chin resting on her small head, his nose inhaling the fragrance of her hair.

Shen Heyu didn’t move in his arms, nor did she struggle.

He said, "Do I have an anniversary gift?" His voice sounded somewhat grievous.

He truly wanted one, wanting her to care for him a bit more, at least show him some pity in these last few days.

Pity him as if it were her pity for him, just her sympathy.

Shen Heyu stated bluntly, "No."

"Alright," Pei Yansi sighed, lifting Shen Heyu in his arms and walking to the bed, where he laid her on the soft mattress before pressing himself down on her, "It’s okay, I can ask for my own."

Shen Heyu frowned, but before she could utter a word, her lips were sealed by his.

Pei Yansi, thinking about how she would leave him after these few days, and how he would have to return to his normal identity, unable to treat her like this and having to pursue her alongside people like Shen Jiangli, felt discontented.

His kiss deepened, as if to punish.

...

When Shen Heyu woke up the following day and saw the ambiguous marks on her body, recalling how Pei Yansi had lost control the night before, she was relieved it was winter so she could cover up with enough clothing.

She was about to have breakfast with Pei Yansi when she received a call from Lu Yi.

Though curious about why he would call at this time, she still answered, "Doctor Lu?"

"Heyu..." His voice from the other end was very weak.

Shen Heyu, startled, immediately frowned with concern, "What’s wrong with you?"

"It seems I’ve got a fever. Can you come and check on me? I’m alone and I’m worried..."

"I’ll come right away."

Shen Heyu asked for Lu Yi’s apartment number and, after hanging up, was about to leave, completely forgetting about Pei Yansi at her side.

Pei Yansi grabbed her wrist, "Where are you going?"

"Lu Yi is sick; I’m going to check on him. He’s alone and needs someone to take care of him."

"What does that have to do with you?"

Pei Yansi coldly regarded her, dissatisfaction in his eyes. Did she really have to go keep him company?
