She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 223 Discharge
Chapter 223: Chapter 223 Discharge
Shen Heyu barged in.
When she was outside, she heard the commotion here. Her understanding of Shen Jiangli told her that if she didn’t come in, something unstoppable would happen.
But she still arrived a step too late.
Shen Heyu looked at Han Manyin lying on the ground; while her heart was in turmoil, she maintained her composure and took out her cellphone to quickly dial emergency services.
Seeing her actions, Shen Jiangli hurried over to grab her wrist, trying to stop her.
"Are you calling the police?" he asked.
"I’m calling emergency services. If we leave her like this, she will be in trouble."
As Shen Heyu spoke, she already made the call.
Shen Jiangli said, "What if resuscitation is ineffective? You can’t make that call."
Shen Heyu ignored his words, looked him in the eyes, and said, "This is a human life. If you keep blocking me and waste time, then that truly will make resuscitation ineffective. It’s just a hit to the head; it won’t so easily turn serious."
Shen Jiangli still didn’t let go of her hand.
Shen Heyu knew what he was worried about and said, "You have been my good friend for so many years, I hope I don’t have to see you in a new light."
The so-called seeing in a new light was just about redefining her perception of him—this heartless perception.
He is a wealthy man, able to play with any woman he desires; Shen Heyu wouldn’t normally comment on this, but if he treats women he’s been with like this, even evading responsibility, then she cannot simply stand by and watch.
Shen Jiangli could hear the determination in Shen Heyu’s voice. He hesitated for a few seconds and finally let go.
Only then did Shen Heyu provide the address and situation to the person on the phone.
The ambulance arrived quickly, and before long, Han Manyin was taken away.
Shen Jiangli followed closely.
Shen Heyu also went to the hospital.
Han Manyin was rushed into the emergency room.
When they arrived, they happened to run into Pei Yansi coming from the other end of the corridor.
He was there to visit an elderly lady and was about to return to the company, but he hadn’t expected to encounter Shen Heyu and Shen Jiangli.
He instinctively thought Shen Heyu was in trouble and hurried over, "What are you doing here? Are you feeling unwell?"
Shen Heyu shook her head.
Only then did Pei Yansi glance at Shen Jiangli beside her. Could it be because of this man?
He was about to ask when he saw a nurse hurriedly coming out of the emergency room nearby, asking who was Han Manyin’s family.
Pei Yansi then understood what was happening.
He stood by Shen Heyu’s side, saying nothing, nor did he judge her for coming to see Han Manyin.
After the nurse’s question, Shen Jiangli stepped forward, "That’s me."
"Family members, please come here to sign."
Shen Jiangli stepped forward and signed. Shen Heyu knew what this would imply—no matter how Han Manyin turned out after this accident, he would have to take responsibility.
After signing, Shen Jiangli asked, "How is she?"
The nurse said, "There is intracranial bleeding, quite serious, but we still need further observation. The family does not need to be too anxious."
Though those were her words, the nurse seemed more anxious and hurriedly turned back into the emergency room.
Having been in business for many years and meeting countless people, there was little Shen Jiangli couldn’t see.
From the nurse’s reaction, Han Manyin’s injuries were very serious.
He couldn’t help feeling annoyed.
He shouldn’t have lost his temper.
Especially since she was a woman.
He glanced up slightly and met Pei Yansi’s gaze, which carried a hint of mockery and incomprehension.
Mocking him for hitting a woman.
Shen Jiangli had a slick tongue and would not have done it if Han Manyin hadn’t provoked him.
Thinking this, he still couldn’t help but lower his head, unable to meet Shen Heyu’s eyes.
Because she was looking at him as if she didn’t know him at all.
As if they had just met that day.
Shen Jiangli thought about what she had said today, asking him not to let her re-meet him.
He must have disappointed her greatly.
Pei Yansi took Shen Heyu’s hand and gently caressed it, asking, "He didn’t hurt you, did he?"
Her voice was very soft, audible only to the two of them, "No. But I knew before that he had some hidden ailments, maybe this time they were triggered."
Triggered by the words Han Manyin had said.
Back when Shen Heyu had rescued Shen Jiangli from school bullying, she felt that there was something off about him.
At that time, Shen Jiangli was uncommunicative, silent, and brooding, his thoughts profound; even though she had helped him, he hadn’t even said thank you.
But in the days that followed, she found that he often quietly followed behind her.
Whenever she turned around, she could always see him. Once discovered, he would become flustered and try to perform some chaotic actions to cover his behavior.
Back then, Shen Heyu was still young and didn’t think much of it, but as she grew older, she felt a chill down her spine.
The thought of someone constantly following her around, yet barely speaking, was terrifying.
Yet, when she interacted with Shen Jiangli again later on, Heyu felt he was no longer like he was in his childhood; instead, he was cheerful, outgoing, and even somewhat flirtatious.
However, today’s event made Shen Heyu realize that maybe Shen Jiangli’s illness had never gotten better, but he had just hidden it well, today stimulated by Han Manyin.
Seeing that she remained silent, her head bowed as if lost in thought, Pei Yansi said, "Do you plan to stay here the whole time?"
Shen Heyu shook her head.
How could she possibly stay here?
She and Han Manyin had little to do with each other; if there was any connection, it was only through hatred, but with Shen Jiangli here, she was worried as he was a friend for so many years.
Pei Yansi seemed to understand her thoughts, reached out and gently stroked her head, comforting her like a pet, saying, "I’ll stay with you."
Shen Heyu lowered her head, remaining silent.
The three of them waited in the hallway for an unknown period, with no one speaking apart from the passersby, the place was utterly quiet.
Finally, the emergency room light went out.
Shen Jiangli was the first to react, rushing forward to intercept the doctor emerging from the room, "How is she now?"
The doctor said, "She is temporarily out of life-threatening danger, but she hit her head and might have sequelae, including a risk of memory loss."
He sighed, "The family should be prepared mentally."
Shen Jiangli was stunned.
He hadn’t expected his momentary slip to cause such severe harm to Han Manyin.
If she lost her memory, not recognizing anyone and with everything caused by him, what would her life be like later?
Shen Jiangli thought that maybe, indeed, she had tied him down in this way.
