She Asks for a Divorce Again -
Chapter 217: Do Not Refuse
Chapter 217: Chapter 217: Do Not Refuse
Simultaneously, in the cafe.
Lu Yi stood by the window on the second floor, looking down at the roadside—Yansi’s car was no longer there. His car had left almost half an hour ago, yet he had not left this place.
He had hoped Shen Heyu would come back to find him, and worried that if she truly did return, she wouldn’t be able to find him.
So he had waited here.
But he waited until it almost darkened, yet she did not return.
Lu Yi heard the sound of something shattering inside his chest. He sat back down in his seat, realizing the possible consequences Shen Heyu faced after being captured by Pei Yansi.
A wave of irritability surged through him, coupled with rage at his own helplessness.
Why couldn’t he even offer her this little bit of help?"
"Brother? Where’s Heyu?" Suddenly, Lu Yunlan’s voice arose behind him.
Lu Yi seemed to remember that their departure today was supposed to include Lu Yunlan, and according to their plan, they were all supposed to leave together to escape Pei Yansi.
Lu Yunlan had arrived later than them.
But Shen Heyu had already left.
Lu Yi leaned back in his chair and said gravely, "She has gone back."
Lu Yunlan sat opposite him. "Gone back?" How could she have gone back?
As her words fell, she immediately noticed that something was off about Lu Yi. He was hanging his head low, his mood appearing profoundly damaged.
Lu Yunlan, understanding all too well, since he was her blood brother, asked, "Was she taken by Pei Yansi?"
Lu Yi remained silent, which served as a confirmation. His eyes were filled with bloodshot veins, a sight that appeared only when one was furiously distressed.
He said, "I don’t know how Pei Yansi will torment her next. Yunlan, do you think your brother is useless?"
Lu Yunlan rarely saw him like this.
She frowned and said, "Brother, don’t worry too much. I will go to the Pei Mansion to check on her. My relationship with Heyu is something Pei Yansi can’t obstruct."
At this, Lu Yi looked up at her with hope. "Really?"
She nodded.
He quickly instructed, "Tell her that if she still wants to leave, even if I have to stake all my fortune and life, I will help her. Tell her to wait there with peace of mind for me."
Lu Yunlan agreed, feeling pain in her heart at seeing Lu Yi like this.
After all, he was her blood brother.
She sighed and said, "Take care of yourself first. Dad still needs your support."
"I understand."
Lu Yunlan bid farewell to Lu Yi and drove to the Pei Mansion.
By the time she arrived, it was already nighttime. But her worry for Shen Heyu was so pressing, she couldn’t worry about the time.
The butler, knowing her connection to Shen Heyu, did not ask any questions and let her in.
She was led to Shen Heyu’s bridal room.
Only she was in the room, Pei Yansi was nowhere to be seen.
Shen Heyu was sitting by the floor-to-ceiling window looking at the garden outside, mistaking the footsteps behind her for a housemaid coming to clean.
It wasn’t until she heard Lu Yunlan’s voice, "Heyu, are you okay?"
Startled, Shen Heyu turned her head to see Lu Yunlan walking towards her. "Yunlan? What are you doing here?"
She glanced behind her; the butler had already tactfully left.
Lu Yunlan came up to her and said, "I’m very worried about you. My brother is also very worried about you, so he came to see you, afraid that Pei Yansi might do something bad to you..."
Shen Heyu’s eyes slightly moistened.
She stroked Lu Yunlan’s hair, "Sorry to worry you."
"The most important thing is that you stay safe," Lu Yunlan said.
Shen Heyu felt like crying but couldn’t, wondering why everyone perceived Pei Yansi as some kind of monstrous beast. Could she really be unsafe by his side?
Except in that aspect, once this man became angry, he would torture her half to death.
Lu Yunlan noticed her troubled expression and asked curiously, "What’s wrong?"
"Nothing."
Shen Heyu said, "I’m fine. You and Lu Yi don’t need to worry about me. Don’t disrupt your lives because of me."
If someone was willing to help her, of course, she would be happy and grateful.
But if their lives fell into chaos because of her, then she would be an unforgivable sinner.
Lu Yunlan nodded, took her hand with pity, and said, "My brother told me to tell you that as long as you want to leave, he will always help you. You just need to wait here obediently for him, and one day he will fulfill your wish."
She said these words tenderly, as if Lu Yi had spoken them to Shen Heyu himself.
Shen Heyu was touched.
Her eyes moistened as she said, "Please thank him for me."
"Do we still need to say thanks in our relationship?" Lu Yunlan said. "Right now, the most important among us three is you."
Shen Heyu wiped her eyes, which held tears that hadn’t yet fallen. She remembered that Lu Yi’s birthday seemed to be approaching soon.
Originally, she planned to have someone deliver a gift as a token of friendship, but seeing how deeply he cared, she felt she should be there in person.
She wanted to say something more to Lu Yunlan when she heard footsteps outside the door.
She knew who it was without thinking.
Her thought had just passed when the room door was pushed open.
Pei Yansi entered from outside.
He had been working in the study when he heard from the butler that Lu Yi’s sister had come. He feared that the siblings were again trying to coax Shen Heyu into leaving and hurried over to check.
But seeing the two of them chatting so naturally by the floor-to-ceiling window, even upon seeing him, there was no panic or guilt on their faces.
Pei Yansi realized it was his own suspicion.
He stopped at the door and said, "We have a guest."
Shen Heyu, worried that he might harm Lu Yunlan—since he was quite hostile toward those close to her—hurriedly said, "She came to see me, just discussing some work-related matters. She’ll be leaving soon."
After speaking, she covertly pushed Lu Yunlan’s back.
Lu Yunlan obviously understood the implication of her action, but it only made her feel more heartbroken.
Was she so afraid of Pei Yansi to this extent?
But she couldn’t cause her trouble; seeing her safe was enough. She stood up, exchanged a few pleasantries with Pei Yansi, and then left as if nothing had happened.
After her departure, the room fell silent. Pei Yansi gently closed the door, sauntered over to Shen Heyu, and stood in front of her, his already tall figure creating an even more oppressive presence.
Shen Heyu looked up at him and, seeing no signs of anger in his eyes, let her guard down a bit.
Seeing her finally acting naturally with him, a little bit of the cloud lifted from Pei Yansi’s heart.
He reached out to touch Shen Heyu’s hair, his action indulgent, as if he were petting a small pet.
"What did you talk about?" he asked, seemingly without much concern.
