Seoul Object Story
Chapter 40: Object Exhibition (1)

In a narrow, sealed secret room, located deep in the basement of the laboratory, a man was breathing heavily.

Haa… Haa…

For some unknown reason, the man was extremely nervous, drenched in cold sweat.

In fact, his condition was quite strange.

After all, the only things on the desk in the secret room were notebooks and pens.

“If I just write the name… the name… in the notebook here, you will let me go, right?”

The man asked the question in a quivering voice, but there was no answer.

He slowly approached the desk and opened the notebook. Inside, a photo of a famous Object was attached.

It was a picture of the ‘Cute Puppy.’

Written underneath the photo was just an ordinary note with a blank space.

< Name of the Object: ________ >.

Haa… Ha…

Breathing heavily, the man took the pen and filled the blanks with trembling hands.

He wrote ‘Puppy’ in the black space before throwing away the pen and started screaming.

“I can’t do it!”

A loud buzzer filled the secret room, and a countdown suddenly began.

Meanwhile, the man tore out his hair, thinking over and over again.

He kept picking up the pen and putting it back down.

He also kept repeatedly standing up and sitting down.

From his behavior, it was clear that he was extremely afraid of something.

When the countdown finally reached zero, the man closed his eyes tightly and filled the blank space in the notebook.

< Name of the Object: Puppy47 >

Phew…

As time ticked by without anything happening, the man finally opened his eyes, releasing a heavy sigh.

“Ha, hahaha! I survived, I survived!”

His elation burst forth in hearty laughter.

“I survived!”

He exclaimed, springing to his feet and throwing his arms toward the sky, brimming with joy. But his happiness was short-lived.

“Ugh! What the…what is that?”

Suddenly he saw a strange monster looking at him through the window.

Boom-!

With a thunderous crash, the metal wall caved under the force of the monster’s swing.

The once transparent window turned opaque white, while the LED lights flickered from the shock.

Boom-! Boom-! Boom-!

The monster’s punches became faster and faster as its size also grew.

Hiding under the desk, the man hugged his head.

Through gritted teeth, he repeated ‘I will survive’ like a mantra.

As the sound of metal tearing echoed from the outer wall of the secret room, the monster’s fist stopped striking.

Slowly, the man, who had kept his eyes closed until now, cautiously opened them, only to find that the monster had disappeared.

“Haa…”

At the realization that he had truly survived, the man exhaled all the air from his lungs.

However, as he rose to his feet and blinked, the monster was already standing right in front of him.

They were close enough to hear each other’s breath.

Startled, the man quickly stepped back and screamed.

“Aaaahhh!”

As a result, the monster’s sharp claws severed his noisy vocal cords first.

It then sliced both of his hands, which had been used to write the name.

It also cut his leg, which was still resting on the chair.

With its two hands, the monster gripped the man’s head, the one that had come up with the name, and crushed it like a watermelon.

As if to vent its anger, it also tore the man’s body apart.

At that moment, the LED light shattered, leaving the dark secret room drenched in blood.

Rough fingernail marks were etched onto the note, now soaked in crimson.

The Object’s name was torn to pieces, rendering it unrecognizable.

The director smiled bitterly as he looked at the blood-soaked secret room.

Despite the fact that the secret room was made of specially manufactured steel plates and glass, it was still unable to block that Object.

“Another failure. Is it really this difficult to gain the freedom to name Objects?”

If a country decided to publish a report regarding Objects, there was a certain Object that should be on the first page.

It was the most influential Object in the world.

At the same time, it was also an Object that most people didn’t even remember.

The director opened the report issued by the Korean government.

[ National Object Management Association. ]

This report was published by the National Object Management Association.

< Please refrain from scribbling or writing on this report. >

< Please refrain from renaming objects in this report. >

< Please refrain from adding or removing text on this report. >

< This report was prepared by a ‘qualified person’. >

Object Profile: Nameless

Danger level: Special

Management Availability: Management Difficulty (High)

Management Method: This report must be disseminated to all literate individuals. Even those unable to read should familiarize themselves with the content.

Rules* for Object Handling:

• Do not assign unique names to the Objects.

• Do not add numbers to Object names.

• When naming Objects, only use ‘Proven Expressions’.

< ’Proven expressions’ are outlined in the separately attached document. >

Cautionary Notes:-

  1. Breaking the aforementioned rules* will result in an encounter with ‘Nameless’ wherever you are on Earth. To date, there has been no way to survive the attack. Documents and videos are also targets of the attack.

  2. This Object must always be referred to as ‘no name’ or ‘nameless’.

Possibility of Elimination: Impossible.

All types of physical attacks do not work on Nameless. There are also no Objects that are reported to be able to eliminate ‘Nameless’.

Possibility of Containment: Impossible.

It can appear anywhere on Earth. Multiple appearances experiments confirmed that multiple ‘Nameless’ can appear at the same time. It has been observed that it can appear even in physically inaccessible spaces.

Possibility of Banishment: Impossible.

We have confirmed that as long as the rules* are broken, ‘Nameless’ will appear anywhere. Regardless of whether the target is in the air, underground or underwater.

Additional Notes:-

  1. You will forget about this Object once you close this report. It’s the characteristic of this Object, so do not think of it as a strange phenomenon. However, fragments of your memory will remember this report. You will be reluctant to give names to Objects because of that.

  2. If you haven’t forgotten about it after closing the report, please contact the management association. You are a ‘qualified person’ who does not forget. Your abilities are essential to this world.

“It’s an Object that I can’t figure out how to deal with every single time I see it.”

The director closed the report.

“Still, it’s encouraging that the steel plate made with golden horn can prevent the invasion of ‘Nameless’ even for a short time. If it is made a little stronger, it might be possible to completely block it.”

The director called the researchers and began planning the next experiment.

The director’s idea was simple. If a unique name were to be given to an Object in a place that ‘Nameless’ could not touch, he was sure that it would be destroyed.

It was a goal that he had not achieved yet.

While the lab bustled with activity, Yerin kept following me.

“How about this one, Sehee Unnie?”

Yerin held in her hand a pajama that was in the shape of a water deer.

My head was aching as it is, but it looked like Yerin’s eccentricity showed no signs of ending.

“It’s good. Just put it in the list of props. I’ll tell Kim Jungrwi.”

“Wow! Thank you so much, Unnie!” Yerin smiled brightly and quickly returned to her position.

How great would it be if I could live all carefree like that?

Sehee massaged her aching temples and sighed.

The lab had been incredibly busy these days.

The reason was because of an order they received from the government.

< The First Ever Object Exhibition. >

The document in my hand was a rough draft, hardly worth calling an official document.

The summary was straightforward.

< These days, Korea has been experiencing frequent incidents caused by Objects. >

< The Sinkhole in Songpa-gu, the human meat restaurant in Daejeon, the pulsation in Seoul Forest, the dismantling of Central Research Institute, etc. >

< As a result, we have decided to hold an event to reassure the fearful public. >

< Each Research Institute must bring a dangerous Object currently quarantined in their institute. >

< The exhibition will showcase that those Objects were being managed safely. >

“Have they lost their minds?”

The official document made me swear.

No matter how I looked at it, it was clear that the government wanted to cause another incident on par with the Central Research Institute.

What if an accident occurred during such a large-scale event where dangerous Objects gathered?

Objects would be released one by one and all hell would unfold.

To make matters worse, the politician who proposed this crazy plan gave even more ridiculous instructions.

< For the Sehee Research Institute, you must bring the Object with Special Danger Level, the ‘Gray Reaper’. >

Woooooooaaahhh, these bureaucrats are batshit fucking crazy.

They were really out of their mind.

Bringing Gray Reaper to an event that promoted our ability to safely contain the Objects?

It was obvious that the Reaper, who couldn’t stay still whenever it went to a new place, would just roam around everywhere.

It would certainly be walking around the exhibition ground like a tourist.

To be honest, I wanted to keep the Reaper in the research lab and only take the ‘Cute Puppy’ and ‘Blue Lizard’ to the exhibition.

But I couldn’t do that.

Ignoring the government’s words was something that was difficult to do, and it was obvious that the Reaper would still secretly follow us.

As I wandered around, lost in my thoughts, I arrived at the deepest part of the Sehee Research Institute.

The containment room in the deepest part of the laboratory always had a relaxed atmosphere, unlike the hustle and bustle of the rest of the institute.

Inside, the Gray Reaper lay on its stomach, lazing around on the bed while munching on snacks and watching TV.

As I saw it roll around, unable to stay still even for a moment, I couldn’t help but feel like I could see the future for some reason.

How could anyone call it the Gray Reaper?

It’s a gray cat.
