Chapter 332: Aftermath of the World's End (1)
The Tower of the End, where everything had concluded.
As the spider turned to dust from my ‘Gray Reaper Beam’, the Black Reapers that had been clinging to my body began to stir.
‘We won!’
‘Mom is victorious!’
At first, they wriggled in joy, celebrating the victory.
After a while, the Black Reapers began to transform from their fluid-like state into Mini Reaper forms.
Their heads began to protrude from the smooth surface, taking on the shape of Black Reapers.
And their exuded will changed from rejoicing in victory to expressing joy at meeting me.
‘Mom is warm.’
‘We love Mom.’
Especially those clinging to me would gently bite with their sharp teeth or lick me.
I grabbed one of the Black Reapers that was nibbling on my cheek.
‘Eek!’
The Black Reaper, startled, began to squirm.
‘What punishment should I give to Black Reapers who keep biting?’
As I was thinking this while looking at it, the squirming Black Reaper calmed down and started looking up at my face with a grin.
‘Mom is gentle!’
When I didn’t do anything for a while, the Black Reaper hugged my finger tightly and exuded its will.
It’s cute, I suppose.
And it did help me shoot the ‘Gray Reaper Beam’ this time.
‘….’
But still, it bit me, so I should bite its head!
Hehe.
I put the Black Reaper’s head straight into my mouth.
‘No!’
‘Mom ate it!’
The other Black Reapers, startled, began to flee.
‘Ah!’
‘It’s collapsing!’
Even the Black Reapers maintaining the giant doll form started to run away, causing the massive doll outfit to crumble rapidly.
Thud. Thud.
Black Reapers fell to the ground with soft sounds.
And I fell onto those soft Black Reapers.
As I lay on the fluffy Black Reapers looking up at the sky, I could see a Halo slowly flickering in the sky.
When I reached out towards the Halo, it quickly rushed into my grasp.
As if I were its rightful owner.
I held the Halo in my hand and slowly examined it.
‘So this is the Halo of Word Spirit.’
I grinned, imagining all the pranks I could play with this.
As I was spinning the Halo on my finger and letting my imagination run wild, a bright light burst forth from the distant black horizon.
It was the sun.
At first, a faint beam of light cut through the darkness, then gradually, an intense golden radiance began to shine down on the ruins.
As the sun’s warm light enveloped this desolate landscape, tiny flowers bloomed all at once amidst the ruins.
Between broken stones, and among scattered and crumbled pipes.
Yellow, purple, white, pink, and various other colored flowers adorned the drab ruins.
It looked like a constellation of stars had appeared on the ruins, replacing the stars that had disappeared as the sun rose.
Every time the wind blew, the small flowers swayed together as if dancing, and it looked as if waves of life were rippling across the ruins.
‘Not bad.’
It was a sight that even I, who wasn’t in the habit of appreciating flowers, couldn’t help but admire.
The Black Reapers didn’t seem particularly interested in the sparkling morning sunlight, but they were carefully observing the flowers that had struggled to grow, as if looking at something curious.
Poke. Poke.
The observing Black Reapers gently poked the flower petals, which were slightly covered in dew.
“Flowers have bloomed…”
The pink-haired girl, who had seemed intimidated among the suddenly appearing Black Reapers, muttered while looking down at the flowers, holding the Blue Reaper in her arms.
As I watched the Blue Reaper looking up at the pink girl with a soft smile, a thought suddenly occurred to me.
‘Ah, I miss Yerin too.’
Creak. Creeeak.
At that moment, like a rooster crowing at dawn, a loud sound began to echo from the massive structure I was standing on.
It was a dangerous sound, as if it might collapse at any moment.
Probably the aftermath of fighting with the spider and tearing through space.
Well, it’s a structure sturdy enough to withstand even Objects running wild, so it won’t collapse right away, but I decided it was time to bid farewell to this world and return to Yerin.
‘Alright! Everyone gather round! Let’s go home!’
As I exuded that will, the Mini Reapers began to sluggishly gather around me.
The pink girl looked bewildered, but approached with her pinky finger held by the Blue Reaper.
I began to slowly pull, sensing the Earth connected to me far away.
And in the next moment, I leaped across space, taking myself, the Mini Reapers, and that Attachment Human with me.
Warm sunlight shone down on the Tower of the End where the Gray Reaper had disappeared.
Then the ‘Tower of the End’, which had endured for ages, began to weather away.
The city made of pipes crumbled to dust.
The roads where academy students had walked, the large stores, and even the grand academy buildings gradually disappeared.
The massive tower connecting the layers also began to scatter.
The surface of the pipes, which had always looked new, became rough, then instantly rusted and crumbled.
Everything in the Tower of the End disintegrated.
Traces of fields, empty villages, and even the small village the pink girl had left behind, all vanished.
All traces turned to rust dust, coloring the wind red as it scattered.
In its final moments, the Tower of the End slowly sank into the evolution fluid.
And no trace remained.
As if nothing had ever happened.
The Sun-Eating Spider was having a dream, a peaceful one for the first time in a very, very long time.
There was no endless burning pain in its body, no ache from its creaking joints.
The dream the spider was having now was a very, very old one.
A dream from the time before its master had started building the tower, a dream from much earlier than what it had seen through its broken eyes.
[Look here. I’ve made a companion to work with you.]
Before the spider’s eyes appeared its master with short brown hair, the color of well-baked bread.
In the dream, the master was holding up a huge grimoire in front of the large spider’s eyes.
[Isn’t it cute?]
The grimoire the master in the dream was holding up was a huge, wrinkled mole that could even fly.
[This child will help us do things we can’t with its ‘Ghostification’.]
The master always seemed to be smiling.
Even when evolution fluid was spreading, food was becoming scarce, and there was no land left for people to live on….
[Then, let’s build a huge tower where all the people of the kingdom can live!]
[Someday, we’ll be able to solve everything. That’s what makes the impossible possible for an alchemist!]
That’s how that person used to smile.
The dream ended with the scene of looking at the ugly face of the giant mole.
Flicker. Flicker.
As the dream ended, the Sun-Eating Spider was able to open its eyes.
‘Did I survive?’
But it quickly realized that wasn’t the case.
Smaller size.
Soft body.
Eight shortened legs.
The spider had already died and been reborn as a completely different being.
Mini Reaper Garden, Sea of Hot Chocolate.
A beautifully transparent, shining structure was being built over that sea.
‘Transparent Slide!’
It was a jewel-like amusement park made of non-melting sugar.
At the top of that sugar structure, a Bread Spider as large as the White Hungry Ghost’s main body was spewing sugar threads from its mouth.
That Bread Spider was hugely popular in the Mini Reaper Garden where the Gray Reaper had not yet returned.
‘Amazing!’
The Golden Reapers watched with beaming smiles.
Some Golden Reapers even ran in front of the Bread Spider as it spewed sugar threads, getting covered in sugar lumps.
It was also very popular with other Mini Reapers.
Only the Blue Reaper, worried about its missing companion, waited for the Gray Reaper’s return with a concerned expression.
The White Hungry Ghost was looking at that massive structure with a resentful expression.
“Kyuhinghing.”
The White Hungry Ghost was slowly being roasted over a bonfire, tied up with ropes.
Even the Red Reaper who had been roasting the White Hungry Ghost had long since left for the sugar structure.
The forgotten White Hungry Ghost had turned completely black from being roasted for too long.
“Kyuhinghinghiing.”
The White Hungry Ghost let out an even more pitiful cry, feeling the difference in treatment between itself and the Bread Spider.
Thump thump.
Thump.
A Golden Reaper walking somewhere suddenly turned around.
But there was no one behind the Golden Reaper.
‘?’
As the Golden Reaper tilted its head and started walking forward again, a Black Reaper popped out from the shadows.
And it started walking thump thump, matching the Golden Reaper’s steps.
Thump thump.
Thump thump.
The Black Reaper was curious about where quite a number of Golden Reapers disappeared to every morning, so it was secretly following them.
‘What could it be?’
The Black Reaper followed behind the Golden Reapers as carefully as possible.
Slithering from shadow to shadow.
The place they arrived at was the front door of an ordinary-looking apartment.
‘It doesn’t look special.’
The Black Reaper examined the front door closely, but couldn’t see anything special.
And just as the Black Reaper was about to change its body to a liquid-like state to seep through the cracks, the front door suddenly opened.
Beep-!
The Black Reaper, which had been moving stealthily, was so surprised by the being that opened the door that it let out a ‘beep’ sound.
‘Mom?’
A Lead Doll with golden light emanating from its eyes walked out thump thump, and behind it were Golden Reapers looking as surprised as the Black Reaper.
‘What do we do?’
‘This is bad!’
‘Mom’s Attachment Human will scold us!’
The Lead Doll that had come out of the building was walking thump thump in the direction of Sehee Research Institute.
