Seoul Object Story -
Chapter 299: James Space Station (3)
The space station, engulfed by the Earth’s shadow.
The woman was making eye contact with a strange creature that emitted a soft glow in the darkness.
It was a bizarre life form she had never seen before, not on the space station or even on Earth, but strangely, it didn’t feel frightening.
“Ming!”
A cute cry.
Small enough to fit in her arms.
Two warm, golden eyes that brought peace to her mind.
A refreshing mint scent reminiscent of grass after rain.
Perhaps it was the combination of all these elements that made the strange creature feel this way.
The woman instinctively reached out to pet it but stopped herself, remembering the Objects she had seen as an Object researcher.
She had to be wary of Objects that appeared harmless or induced mental contamination to make them seem that way.
The moment she touched it, her wrist might disappear.
Thinking about it that way, the creature’s mouth suddenly seemed suspicious.
It felt as if she brought her hand close, that mouth might go ‘nom nom’ and bite it off!
The woman tried to resist the urge to pet the strange creature for safety, but then a thought occurred to her.
‘I’m going to die lonely in space anyway, so what difference does it make if I pet a cute little Object that looks like a small animal?’
With the endless cold enveloping the station, swallowed by shadow, she was likely to freeze to death soon anyway.
A mix of desperation, loneliness, and cold led the woman to cautiously extend her hand.
As her fingertips touched the moist-looking green surface, a warm sensation spread through her.
“Ming?”
It felt soft and fluffy like premium fur, and warm like a heat pack.
“It’s warm.”
Intoxicated by the warmth, the woman slowly embraced the strange creature.
“It’s really warm.”
Feeling the pulsing warmth in her arms, the woman hugged the creature tightly and quietly shed tears.
It felt as if all the fear and loneliness she had experienced alone on the station were melting away in its warmth.
Though her chances of survival were still slim, holding this creature made those worries fade away.
“Miiing!”
But the strange creature, seemingly uncomfortable, wriggled to escape from the woman’s embrace.
“Haha.”
Somehow finding it cute and amusing, the woman laughed.
And so, for the first time since the station had been overtaken by the Green Moon, the woman was able to laugh out loud.
In the courtyard of the Sehee Research Institute, where the grass had grown soft and fluffy like a carpet.
I was lying on the bed-like soft grass, wearing a VR headset.
Cheong, who had visited the Sehee Research Institute recently, had given it to me as a gift, and I was trying it out for the first time, having just remembered it.
I thought Cheong and his group would stay at the Sehee Research Institute for quite a while since they had Mini Reapers with them, but they left sooner than expected.
Didn’t they say they were traveling around the world?
Hearing that, I briefly thought about going on a trip myself, but I gave up, thinking it would probably be troublesome.
Every time I go on a trip, all sorts of incidents happen, so it’s better to stay comfortably at home.
The Roll Cake Human who came with Cheong adopted one Golden Reaper that was enticed by the taste of roll cake.
Even though the Roll Cake Human was an Object, strangely enough, the Mini Reapers showed some interest in it.
Probably because Mini Reapers tend to like snacks from the garden, so it might be a similar phenomenon.
As I lay there wearing the VR headset, a Golden Reaper was wriggling its way into the headset.
The Golden Reaper slowly crawled from my cheek towards my eyes.
‘Mom!’
The Mini Reapers, who usually stayed quietly near me when I was watching TV, kept trying to push their way into the headset when I put it on.
This was already the fourth Golden Reaper to stick its head into the space under the VR headset.
When I sat up on the grass, four Golden Reapers were dangling from under the VR headset.
Their heads were stuck inside the headset as if they had been hanged.
‘I guess I can’t use this when the Mini Reapers are around.’
As I sighed inwardly and took off the VR headset, the four Golden Reapers plopped onto my lap.
I tossed the VR headset aside in the courtyard and started watching TV.
[Recently, phenomena that appear to be influenced by Objects have been occurring worldwide.]
[Plants have grown significantly overnight, and animals thought to be extinct have reappeared, indicating changes in the Earth’s ecosystem. Even Object experts worldwide have been unable to clearly identify the cause of these phenomena, drawing global attention.]
[The American Object Association officially announced today that the cause of these phenomena is likely due to the Green Moon observed in space.]
[Currently, there seems to be no way to directly control or remove this unusual Object in space. Object associations and research institutes from various countries have launched urgent investigations into the Green Moon, but have yet to come up with clear solutions.]
[Experts unanimously stated, “Dealing with an Object in space that directly affects Earth is a new challenge for humanity. With current scientific technology, it seems virtually impossible to remove the Green Moon.”]
‘Green Moon!’
As soon as I saw that news, I stood up.
The Golden Reapers sitting on my lap rolled off, but I had no time to worry about that.
‘The Green Moon has finally appeared.’
Actually, there was one thing I had been thinking about while dealing with the various colored moons.
It was the destruction of the Steel Tower.
The Steel Tower, its destruction conditions, and the scenery visible from atop the Steel Tower.
The vague destruction condition and the scenery of colorful moons rising seemed clearly related.
Moreover, as I started collecting moons, my speculation began to seem more and more plausible.
And now, the final piece to destroy the Steel Tower had finally appeared.
But just as I made up my mind to deal with the Green Moon, there was one problem.
‘How do I get to space?’
No matter how much of an Object I am, it didn’t seem possible to fly that high with Cloud Fish.
‘I guess I have no choice but to use modern conveniences like a rocket?’
Unfortunately, the Sehee Research Institute, busy playing with Mini Reapers, didn’t seem to have the technology to build a rocket.
It was quite a predicament.
At that moment, the brilliant idea of ‘being launched by a Giant Black Reaper Ballista’ crossed my mind, but I gave up when I realized that space travel requires much more precision than that.
It would be sad to become a space orphan.
What should I do?
In the courtyard of the Sehee Research Institute, where Mom had suddenly collapsed while watching the news and remained motionless.
Perhaps due to the influence of the Green Moon, Mini Reapers were wandering through the grass that had grown so tall it submerged their ankles.
‘Found it!’
Among these Mini Reapers, a Golden Reaper emitted a will with a happy expression.
In the Golden Reaper’s grasp was a tiny bird.
It was one of the Mini Long-tailed Tits that had started naturally occurring at the Sehee Research Institute due to the Green Moon’s influence.
The Golden Reaper, having caught a Long-tailed Tit as big as its own head, placed it on top of its head and jumped into the crowd of Mini Reapers gathered in the courtyard.
‘Tiny baby bird!’
The Mini Reapers surrounded the Long-tailed Tit brought by the Golden Reaper and started feeding it small pieces of their favorite snacks.
The researchers watched with warm smiles, capturing the scene in photos.
Other Mini Hamsters and Mini Rabbits were also being caught and cherished by the Mini Reapers.
A researcher observing the scene posed a question.
“But why do only these ridiculously small ‘Mini Creatures’ appear at the Sehee Research Institute?”
“Who knows. But isn’t it nice that they’re cute?”
That conversation seemed far from what one would expect from Object research specialists.
Meanwhile, Seoa was sitting in the deputy director’s office, writing a report while observing the scene.
<Analysis of the Green Moon Phenomenon’s Impact on Supernatural Life Forms and Its Correlation with Public Perception>
<Introduction: Following the recent appearance of the Green Moon, supernatural life forms such as phoenixes and dragons have emerged. This study aims to analyze the influence of public perception on the life forms affected by the Green Moon.>
<…>
<Conclusion and Suggestions: The Green Moon phenomenon has led to the appearance of supernatural life forms, which have been found to be greatly influenced by public perception.>
And beneath that report, there was a hastily scribbled memo in pen.
<What about the Sehee Research Institute then?>
On the outskirts of Songpa District, James Tower.
Inside a large facility within James Tower, the staff were in the final stages of their work.
It was the Emergency Tyranno Project to resolve the Green Moon situation.
Under the exceptional cooperation of the Korea Object Safety Management Council and the American Object Association, everything from the launch pad to the rocket had been airlifted from the United States.
James, looking very tired with dark circles under his eyes, was checking the work while looking down at the blueprints.
“This should be enough to attract the Gray Reaper’s attention.”
Reflected in James’s tired eyes was an enormous rocket.
It was the Golden-Mecha-Tyranno Rocket, shining brilliantly in gold and shaped like a Tyrannosaurus.
