Chapter 58 - Teacher Received 10 Years Prison Sentence For Attempting to Penetrate a Student With His Stick
"You’ve misunderstood me. I don’t need a real sword to defeat you. I only need this stick to defeat you in one move. Instructor, whatever your name is, you’re not my opponent."
"HAH?!"
After hearing Fu Tong’s declaration, Liang Gan was enraged. He unsheathed his sword and yelled at Fu Tong.
"Forget the demonstration. We’re having a sparring match now!"
Liang Gan looked at Yin Qingming, asking for permission. The latter nodded and gestured to the other elder to make space for the match. Both men levitated and watched the show below.
After clearing the stage for a match, Liang Gan unleashed his Qi, enveloping his sword with his aura. His killing intent soared. He gave Fu Tong a handicap even though he was offended.
"As I am an instructor, I shall give you the first move!"
Fu Tong rolled his eyes. He warned Liang Gan.
"You’ll die if I strike first. Come at me. I’ll use only my left hand. If you can touch me, you win."
"...You."
Liang Gan had enough of Fu Tong’s arrogance. His sword blurred and left behind a dozen afterimages as he charged forward. 12 illusion of sword tips rushed at the target in unison.
The crowd gulped, recognizing the sword technique. It was the completed form of the Feather Sword Dance.
But as all sword illusions were about to touch Fu Tong’s arms, face, and torso, Liang Gan flinched, and all his sword illusions shattered. He sensed something hitting his solar plexus and pushed him back. He flung like a rag doll, flying out of the stage.
He couldn’t tell what hit him.
However, the spectators saw it. Fu Tong didn’t move an inch. Instead, he slightly adjusted his sword posture and pointed the wooden stick at Liang Gan’s chest. From its tip, something came out and hit the instructor, knocking him backward.
A white aura enveloped Fu Tong’s wooden stick, and its tip extended two meters, turning the short stick into a long staff. Liang Gan simply ran into his extending weapon and got pushed backward.
Liang Gan managed to regain his posture in mid-air. He looked at his stomach and found a charred area in the midsection. A second after realization, he coughed and spat a mouthful of blood.
Everybody looked at Fu Tong in disbelief.
A Qi Condensation Stage cultivator just defeated a Golden Core Stage instructor?
Fu Tong maintained his stance. While gazing at the floating instructor, he lectured the spectators.
"What the instructor has said is half correct. However, due to the limitations of his knowledge, he doesn’t understand the concept of sword dao. The dao of swords isn’t limited by the mastery of sword skills or sword ranks. Every sword style and technique shares the same goal: to defeat the opponent. This is the essence of all swordsman that you have to keep in mind, not the flurry or fancy techniques with big moves. Therefore, every move you make must have a purpose. While you’re training, don’t swing your sword around without figuring out what the moves are for."
Tang Youyan came back to her senses. Her eyes shone with growing admiration for Fu Tong, and she squealed like a fangirl who just saw her idol in person.
"I don’t understand anything, but you’re cool, Senior Brother Fu!"
Fu Tong flinched and broke a sweat. He was about to elaborate. Because of Tang Youyan’s squeal, he forgot what he was about to speak.
Meanwhile, Liang Gan refused to accept the result. He unleashed the full power of a golden core cultivator and incanted a spell, enchanting his long sword with flame. He thrust forward, descending like a comet and bellowing.
"WHATEVER TRICK YOU USE, YOU CAN’T POSSIBLY DEFEAT SOMEONE TWO REALMS ABOVE YOU!"
Fu Tong shook his head and sighed. He pointed the wooden stick, aiming at Liang Gan’s sword.
"Wrong. Cultivation realms are just a process. A cultivator’s true power lies in their mind, foundation, and dao."
With a thought, Fu Tong’s Qi around the wooden stick compressed into a grain-sized ball at the tip. It fired like a bullet. However, the Qi transformed into a white feather needle after it was launched.
Liang Gan sneered at the incoming feather. He didn’t bother parrying it or blocking it.
BOOM
The feather shattered Liang Gan’s flame and his sword. It also punctured through his right shoulder. As if a bird had lost its wing, the instructor tumbled from the sky.
Fu Tong dismissed Liang Gan with a look of disinterest, as if he were nothing more than a loser. He faced the crowd and disabled his aura. He continued explaining, waved the stick around, and completed the first technique without any effort.
"Here’s the misconception about swordsmanship. Focusing on the core techniques is good, but you should not put too much faith in them, or they will hinder your future growth as a swordsman. Figuring the core idea, strengthening your foundation, and rediscovering yourself should take priority over everything. In fights, only focus on surviving above all else. Winning and losing matters come later. Keep this mindset, and you’ll live very long, alright? Only those who live long can become an immortal."
The crowd snapped back to reality. Those who had listened to Fu Tong’s mnemonic verses before took notes, while the others looked at him with skepticism.
—
Meanwhile, Long Hao’s expression was solemn. He didn’t know why Fu Tong gave a free lecture to the mortal children.
His grandfather, Long Yunfei, also heard it. He whispered to Long Hao.
"He’s actually a good man. Only honorable men like him always share his insight with juniors. You should learn from him and befriend him."
Long Hao disagreed. He replied.
"No. We’ll never be friends."
"He’s already spared you. Let the previous matter be water under the bridge. Reconcile with him, and we will have a trustworthy ally that we can depend on."
Long Hao scoffed, disliking the idea of sucking up to Fu Tong or anybody else, for he would rather prefer having disposable pawns than having a friend.
Half-heartedly, he spoke his thoughts. "If I have to be his friend, I would rather use him as a pawn or make him my underling. Whatever he can achieve, I can do it better."
Long Yunfei sighed. He wished that Long Hao would be a little less stubborn.
—
After sharing his insight, Fu Tong turned to Liang Gan, who held his injured shoulder. The small hole, caused by the feather needle, was still gushing blood.
Liang Gan glared at Fu Tong with hatred. He turned to Yin Qingming and yelled.
"Grand Elder, did you see that?! That disciple rebels! We must expel him from the sect!"
Yin Qingming stroked his mustache. Following Huli Jiubai’s instructions from afar, the grand elder made a shocking declaration.
"The disciple has shown his talent and outstanding skills, but you’re trying to expel him because of your little grudge? You should accept your defeat and congratulate him for his victory. Your behavior is a disgrace to the sect, Elder Liang."
Liang Gan couldn’t believe his ears.
This was not the first time that Liang Gan provoked a talented disciple. They had done this so many times in the past. Every time a similar situation arose, Liang Gan would propose a disciplinary action against disciples they disliked, and Yin Qingming would either imprison or expel the targets. Then, they would extort and rob whatever they could get from the disciples and kill them in secret.
This was the first time that Yin Qingming betrayed him.
Yin Qingming snorted and gave his verdict.
Elder Liang Gan. Everyone can see your childish attempt to bully that disciple. It is you that needs to be punished! I hereby sentence you to ten years in prison and demote your position to a deacon."
