Chapter 51: Scientist Faced Criticism for Using His Cancer Blood and Blister Fluid as New Medicine Ingredients
A hundred batches of ingredients piled on the counter, and Fu Tong collected everything, including the cauldron of the elder. His account was 250,000 contribution points poorer.
After getting what he wanted, Fu Tong moved on to the next phase of his plan. He asked the elder.
"Can I rent a private room so that I can concoct something?"
The sect had rules and restrictions. Alchemists could not set up a cauldron and start cooking in public, as it always generated an unpleasant odor or it might explode. Thus, Fu Tong needed permission to use a space for the alchemy experiment.
Zou Laoye grinned and made an offer. "I’ll allow you to concoct a pill at the lecture theater, but you must let me observe your concoction process."
Fu Tong shrugged. He didn’t mind.
"Sure."
"Also, I wish to bring over my disciples to learn from you, too."
"...That’s inconvenient. I want privacy. If I want to show off, I wouldn’t need to rent a workshop in the first place."
Zou Laoye negotiated. "1000 contribution points per disciple per hour, including me. Consider it a public lecture assignment from the sect."
Fu Tong rolled his eyes, as he didn’t need more CP at the moment. But after careful consideration, he might be able to achieve something that he couldn’t do in the game.
"Make it 2000 per person per hour."
"Deal!"
Zou Laoye widely grinned, looking forward to enjoying the session. He then escorted Fu Tong out of the alchemy pavilion and headed to the open theater area, where the sect often held public lectures for outer disciples.
Stone spectator stands form a half circle, surrounding the center stage, where elders usually stood there and gave a lecture. Behind the stage was an empty field, where lecturers could demonstrate abilities and skills.
Upon arrival, Fu Tong ejected the palm-sized cauldron and activated it with his Qi. The artifact expanded and transformed into a one-meter-tall three-legged pot in the middle of the stage. Fu Tong secretly threw a karma coin into the pot and closed the lid.
The blue cauldron radiated Qi and turned green, emitting black smoke full of lingering impurities within the bowl. After washing away the waste with Qi and the smoke, the cauldron turned white, hinting at its readiness to make a new batch of high-graded elixirs.
The entire process was completed in 10 seconds. Zou Laoye raised an eyebrow, for he failed to detect Fu Tong’s Qi.
Fu Tong ejected a bundle of black grasses from his inventory first. Following his memory and the knowledge from the sea of consciousness library, he processed the grasses by removing the roots and stalks, keeping only grass blades.
As soon as the grass blades disconnected from the stalks, they radiated black poisonous gas. Fu Tong ignored the gas and tossed every grass blade into the pot.
One bundle was enough to make one batch of elixirs, but Fu Tong processed four more bundles, adding them to the pot as well. After completing the process, he glanced at his hands, which had white pockets of fluid all over his palms.
Those were poisonous blisters, which always appeared when someone touched radiation grasses with a bare hand.
Zuo Laoya saw Fu Tong’s reckless processing method and complained.
"You should have worn some protective gloves. The grasses are poisonous, don’t you know?"
"I know."
"And why didn’t you wear them?"
"To raise the efficiency and the concentration rate, you must contaminate your hands. Then, you do this."
Fu Tong brought his hands to the cauldron and cut his blisters with his fingernail, dropping white liquid and his contaminated blood into the pot.
Zuo Laoya almost had a heart attack. He wished to stop Fu Tong from wasting the ingredients, but he managed to pull his hands away from touching Fu Tong or the pot. He sighed and walked to a seat in the front row. Sitting down, he watched Fu Tong’s performance without uttering another word.
—
While Fu Tong was busy tampering with the cauldron and his hands, wandering disciples noticed them. Curious youths from the ’Pig’s Pen’ faction quickly gathered to observe a free demonstration while the ’Bully’ faction ignored this place.
One of the outer disciples from the elite faction followed the instruction of her mentor and visited the theater. He found Zou Laoye in the front row, so she approached him.
The girl’s name was Tang Youyan, 16, the youngest daughter of the Tang Family. She was also one of Zou Laoye’s disciples and the only person who answered the summon.
Tang Youyan played with poisonous herbs and pills since she was five. After a decade of ingesting poison and developing poison immunity, she slightly mutated, which her fingernails, blood, and her entire eyeballs turned black. With her pale white skin, black long hair, gloomy air, and her pretty face, her peers nicknamed her as the ’Black Venom Princess’.
The Tang princess greeted the elder.
"Master, what are you doing here? Are you planning to give a free lecture today?"
Zou Laoye sighed and pointed at Fu Tong, who started working on vials of Flower Blood. He complained.
"I was interested in that new disciple over there, since he seemed wise and bold. But then, he just processed the Radiation Grass with bare hands. Haiya..."
Tang Youyan whistled. "Isn’t he just like me? He must have a unique physique that is immune to poison, right?"
"No. He got blisters all over, and he dropped his own blood into the cauldron... by popping those buttons."
"...Hah?!"
Tang Youyan was flabbergasted. She turned to Fu Tong, who had already finished filling the pot with three vials of flower blood. Seeing Fu Tong ejecting blue crystals from his storage rings, she analyzed the ingredients.
"Bundle of radiation grass, flower blood, and crystalized yang wind? Is he planning to make the Flower Land Elixir? Isn’t that too difficult for a new alchemist? The final result will end up as random poisonous pills instead of elixirs."
"That’s why I’m here to watch over him. But alas, he needs to fail a few times first to learn a life lesson. I’m letting him fail. I guess I will also waste 4000 contribution points for free."
"... I see."
Tang Youyan sat on the same bench as her master and observed Fu Tong. She finally looked at his face.
His toned build, wide shoulders, chisel jawline, handsome face, and slightly tanned skin made him look older than his age. From Tang Youyan’s perspective, Fu Tong seemed to be in his late-20s rather than 18.
As she loved handsome, matured men, her maiden’s heart stirred when she kept gazing at his features. Tang Youyan stared at Fu Tong’s face in a daze, attracted to him.
For the first time, his 100 Charisma attribute charmed someone.
