Chapter 98 : The Inquisition (3)

Chapter 98: Chapter 98 : The Inquisition (3)

"No," Shen Jingwei replied curtly.

"Oh."

All around him, faces fell rapidly.

Shen Jingwei sighed out of relief inwardly. Thank God it was not a difficult question. But now that the rules of the game had changed, it was proper to step out.

"I lost enough for today," he said. "So I am going to sit out the next game."

Feng Jietang and Ye Lingxia groaned at the same time.

"Little Shen, why must you ruin the game?"

"Right, Little Shen, if you do not continue, it simply means that you are afraid of losing! Come on, are you a man or not?"

Shen Jingwei arched a brow at both of them.

Really now?

"We are going to arrive soon," Auntie Bai informed them. "Enough time for one last round."

Ye Lingxia and Feng Jietang quickly drilled Shen Jingwei with a bunch of stares.

"..."

Faced with the immense pressure, the latter sighed in resignation.

"One more round," he said, giving in to their persuasion at last.

Ye Lingxia and Feng Jietang broke out in a cheer.

"Atta boy!"

"Now that’s my Little Shen!"

Shen Jingwei shook his head in disbelief. To think that these two people liked subjecting him to truth or dare so much.

Soon, the fourth round began.

Shen Jingwei exerted his entire focus on the game, paying attention not to lose.

Despite that, he was still unable to get rid of all his cards fast enough.

The winner of the fourth round turned out to be Ye Lingxia, who could have performed a victory dance had they not been riding on the back of a truck.

One by one, the other players exited the game.

Lang Yuxuan, Feng Jietang, Lin Ruoye, in that order.

In the end, it came down to Shen Jingwei and Yan Renzhong.

Shen Jingwei held three cards in his hand, and Yan Renzhong four.

Although Shen Jingwei had less cards, one of the cards was the joker, the losing card.

Unless he could somehow pass the joker to Yan Renzhong, he was going to lose for sure.

Yan Renzhong calmly stretched his hand out and let it hover over Shen Jingwei’s deck.

Shen Jingwei’s jaw tightened when the other man’s fingers lightly brushed the top of the joker card.

Take it!

Shen Jingwei cried out in his heart.

Take it, please! Take that one!!! That is the card you want!

"..."

Yan Renzhong resolutely picked the very card.

Shen Jingwei’s soul almost left his body in utter elation. He was so glad.

For the first time in four rounds, Yan Renzhong finished last.

"Oh, boo, this is no fun," Ye Lingxia grumbled. "Little Shen, how did you get lucky all of a sudden? Or rather, Little Yan, how did you become so unlucky this time around?"

Yan Renzhong shrugged.

"No one can win all the time."

Ye Lingxia pursed her lips.

"Alright then."

Ye Lingxia rolled up her sleeves and pinned Yan Renzhong with a stare.

"Truth or dare?"

"Truth."

"Are you in love with anyone currently, Little Yan?"

Shen Jingwei and Lang Yuxuan’s heads snapped up at the same time, their eyes wide with anticipation.

"Yes," Yan Renzhong answered without batting an eyelid.

A flicker of hope danced across Lang Yuxuan’s features, while Shen Jingwei’s eyes simply drifted away.

He was the kind of person who did not get hurt by the same revelation again and again.

He already accepted that Yan Renzhong never loved him, and the fact that the former was now in a happy relationship with a lover did not concern him much.

But of course his nonchalance did not apply to the others.

"What? You are???" Feng Jietang stared at Yan Renzhong. "Can someone as cold as you even fall in love???"

Yan Renzhong arched a brow at him.

"Even ice statues can melt, Little Feng," Ye Lingxia cackled on Yan Renzhong’s expense.

"My Senior Yan is not an ice statue!" Lang Yuxuan quickly piped up.

"Anyway, who is it???" Ye Lingxia’s eyes sparkled in excitement.

A corner of Yan Renzhong’s lips tugged up in a sneer.

"I am only required to answer one question," he said. "You will need to beat me a second time to receive the answer to your second question."

"Awwww! That is so unfair!" Ye Lingxia slapped at her own thigh in regret. She quickly directed her displeasure at Feng Jietang.

"Hey, Little Feng, this is all your fault. Why couldn’t you ask a straightforward question? A yes and no question is less than satisfactory!"

Baffled, Feng Jietang was quick to retaliate.

"Senior Ye, how is that my fault? You should know the temperament of your junior here very well. Besides, no one asked you to copy my question!"

The two people bickered all the remaining trip to the natural hot spring, giving the others a good show to watch.

Before long, they finally arrived at their destination.

The imposing gate of the inn was supported by two mighty pillars, guarded by a lion statue on each side.

There was an engraved stone in front of the gate. Lin Ruoye stepped closer to read.

"Love Maze Hot Spring Inn.

The path of the heart is long and winding,

Filled with fog and thorns.

Yet, the heart’s light burns bright, illuminating the way ahead.

Over towering mountains and flowing rivers, through countless trials and tribulations,

Eventually, clouds will part, and flowers will bloom.

Enlightenment is within reach, the mind becomes clear as water."

"Beautiful poem," Lin Ruoye commented. "But why love maze?"

"Oh, it’s because the hot spring here is not like any other hot spring you know," Uncle Huang explained. "They have around seventeen smaller pools and seven bigger pools, all weaved together into a complicated maze.

Each pool has a name. The most famous one around here is the Eternal Love Pool. According to the local legend, if two people who love each other bathe here together, they will be forever bound to each other for all eternity."

Upon hearing this, Lang Yuxuan and Feng Jietang’s faces lit up with interest.

This was their chance.
