Chapter 92: Chapter 92 : Hellish Mission (1)

24 hours passed in a flash.

The next morning, the delivery man arrived in time to collect the phones again.

The camera crew captured several comical scenes as several participants exhibited fierce protectiveness over their phones.

Ye Lingxia had to be held back by Shen Jingwei and Lin Ruoye as she bade farewell to her phone in tears.

After the phones were packed away, the delivery man produced another letter from his satchel.

Their eagerness dampened by the loss of their phones, the participants opened the letter together in weak spirit.

"Congratulations to all participants upon completing the flower-selling challenge successfully! Please pick up your respective prizes at Uncle Huang’s farm!"

Attached was a road map, with Uncle Wang’s house and Uncle Huang’s farm marked on top of it.

"It’s nearby," Shen Jingwei remarked as he scrutinized the map in his hands.

"Only approximately a kilometer from here."

Lang Yuxuan grumbled, "It’s not nearby."

"It is, considering that we are in a village," Yan Renzhong countered.

Ye Lingxia slapped at Yan Renzhong’s arm lightly.

"Yan Renzhong, aren’t you too insensible? Yuxuan, how is your body? Are you all recovered? Would you rather wait here until we return with the prizes?"

Lang Yuxuan bit into his lower lip in contemplation.

He too checked the individual and pairing ranks yesterday.

Individually, he ranked even lower than Shen Jingwei.

Pairing-wise, he and Yan Renzhong ranked third.

Shen Jingwei ranked first and second in the list with two different men.

Lang Yuxuan’s injuries were not that serious in the first place.

He exaggerated them in the hope of winning both Yan Renzhong and audience’s heart. Alas, Yan Renzhong saw through him and couldn’t be bothered to play a doting and caring boyfriend for his sake.

As for the audience...

Lang Yuxuan’s face darkened.

Anyway, he couldn’t afford to miss out on the creative team’s instruction.

He needed more screen time.

And he needed to build some chemisty with Yan Renzhong.

"I can go," Lang Yuxuan said in reply.

"Can we please walk slower, though? For my sake..."

The young man looked like he was about to spill some tears.

"Of course," Ye Lingxia said.

"Well then, should we go?"

A murmur of assent went through all six participants.

The path between Uncle Wang’s and Uncle Huang’s farms was once a picturesque tableau of verdant rice fields, swaying gently in the breeze.

However, the tranquility of this idyllic landscape was shattered by a recent storm that swept through the region.

The once lush fields were laid low, their vibrant green replaced by a patchwork of brown and gray.

Despite the devastation, a silver lining emerged -- the harvest had been completed just in time, sparing the farmers from significant financial losses.

Nevertheless, the storm had left behind a considerable amount of cleanup work, delaying the preparations for the next planting season.

Uncle Huang’s farmhouse was larger than Uncle Wang’s, with a livestock enclosure housing several cows and pigs on the left and a vast vegetable garden on the right. A yellow pathway led from the entrance gate to the house, but there was no sign of a human being around the front porch.

"Excuse meeeeee!" Feng Jietang cupped a hand around his mouth and called out. "Uncle Huang, we are here to pick up our prizes!"

"Coming!!!" a male voice, clearly that of an elderly man similar in age to Uncle Wang hollered in reply.

Soon, the front door creaked open and the owner of the voice rushed outside to greet them.

"Aiyah, I am so sorry for letting you wait. Please don’t stand in the sun, you are going to ruin your fair skin!"

The six participants looked at each other.

What fair skin?

After working for hours under the sun, they all looked like they just came back from a tanning studio.

Nevertheless, the six participants greatly appreciated Uncle Huang’s hospitality.

"Thank you, thank you Uncle," they said as they walked past the gate and stepped onto the porch.

"Why are you still here?" Uncle Huang exclaimed. "Aiyah, no need to be so polite! Please come in! My wife just finished squeezing a big jug of fresh, chilled orange juice!"

Ohhh...

Orange juice.

How long had it been since they had a drop of orange juice in their system?

Why did no one think of buying some fruits at the local market?

Probably because they were penniless and sucked at making money as farmers.

Needless to say, the six thirsty participants obediently followed Uncle Huang into the kitchen.

Indeed, an elderly woman with a polkadot apron stood at the counter with several jugs of fresh orange juice.

"Hello, hello everyone!" She exclaimed in excitement. "Welcome to our farm! Please call me Auntie Bai!"

"Auntie Bai, hello..."

"Auntie Bai, nice to meet you..."

"Sit sit sit! You must be so thirsty, aiyah, walking all the way here..."

Feng Jietang roared with laughter.

"Oh, it’s just a kilometer! We could do another on our way back! It’s not a bother at all!"

Uncle Huang and Auntie Bai giggled in response.

"It will take at least five days before you can walk back."

Feng Jietang’s facial expression quickly changed, as did others’.

"Uncle, what do you mean with five days?" Shen Jingwei asked in confusion.

"Well..."

The elderly couple exchanged bewildered looks.

"You have seen the condition of the rice patches out there. It will take us a long time to clear the debris, turn the soil, and sow new seeds."

The poor celebrities-turned-farmers gaped at the elderly couple.

"B-but I thought we are here to pick up our winning prizes," Lin Ruoye stammered.

"Ahhh, right right."

Uncle Huang and Auntie Bai laughed.

"Forgive the elder ones. We almost forgot. The first-place winners will be provided with the most advanced tractor with various implements.

The second-place winners get to work with two robust water buffalos.

The third-place winners get to work with all kinds of comprehensive farming equipment in the shed."

Slowly, Shen Jingwei turned his head to look at Lin Ruoye. The latter swallowed hard as she returned Shen Jingwei’s gaze.

No kidding.

The third-place winners were going to suffer a lot in the next five days.
