Chapter 67 : The Scandalous Affair In The Past
Chapter 67: Chapter 67 : The Scandalous Affair In The Past
Once the big hurdle was over, Director Ma visibly relaxed.
Slowly, the production caught up with the initial schedule.
Two more important arcs needed to be covered before the fourth shooting period ended -- the military recruitment arc and the winter solstice arc.
For the military recruitment arc, there would be a scene where Xie Jianyu fought and won against Yan Renzhong in a sword competition.
In other words, the time to showcase his swordsmanship prowess had arrived.
Prior to the shooting, Shen Jingwei and Yan Renzhong went through a briefing with Director Ma and the camera team.
"We envision quite a sword fight between the Crown Prince and the future Supreme General," Director Ma said. "So Zhang Fengxi is going to stand here, in the middle of the platform, while Xie Jianyu is going to attack from this direction..."
The sword fight on screen was more elaborate than a typical one, as wire ropes were used to suspend actors in the air, creating the illusion of flight.
Yan Renzhong was used to hanging from these wire ropes.
Shen Jingwei was not.
To get him quickly used to it, Shen Jingwei was given the opportunity to practice his moves while being suspended by wires for several hours.
It was an exhaustive process.
Once the wires were removed, he massaged his aching shoulders and asked, "Are we also going to use the wires for the Winter Solstice dance?"
"Yes," a crew member readily answered.
"..."
Wonderful.
His dance instructor did not prepare him for an aerial performance at all.
Oh well, he should have guessed as much. Director Ma liked to stick with the novel as much as possible.
"Little Shen, your lunch..."
"Thanks, Old Zhu. Old Zhu?"
Shen Jingwei leaned closer to Zhu Dongyi, who quickly looked away.
"What’s wrong? Why are your eyes so red?"
"I rubbed them too hard just now, don’t mind me."
Shen Jingwei narrowed his eyes at his manager.
"Your eyes are swollen, too. Have you been crying?"
Zhu Dongyi quickly burst into tears.
"Little Shen... I am so sad, so so sad."
Shen Jingwei was not sure if he should be concerned or not. After all, Zhu Dongyi strayed from his usual modus operandi -- threatening to kill himself.
Zhu Dongyi wiped snot off his nose with his sleeve.
Shen Jingwei retrieved a box of tissue from a nearby table and handed it to his manager.
"What’s wrong? What do you need from me?"
"Nothing," Zhu Dongyi sobbed. "I just want to cherish our last few days together. I will always remember you, Little Shen. Do not forget about me, wuwuwu..."
Shen Jingwei groaned.
"Which one of them told you?"
"No one did!" Zhu Dongyi quickly answered. "No one said anything!"
"Stop lying," Shen Jingwei pursed his lips at the elder man. "You are a terrible liar."
Zhu Dongyi burst into tears again.
"I... To be honest, I am not surprised. Little Shen, you have been with me for far too long. Now that you already made your big break, it doesn’t make sense for you to stay with me. I... I am not powerful enough. I don’t have enough connections in this industry. I will just hinder you from advancing your career, I..."
"Stop talking."
Shen Jingwei grabbed Zhu Dongyi by his shoulders.
"Yes, I am considering leaving Beihai, but it doesn’t mean that I am severing ties with you. In fact, once I make my decision to switch company, I plan to take you with me."
Zhu Dongyi gaped at him.
"Really???"
Shen Jingwei smiled.
"Of course. What were you thinking? We are in this together, Old Zhu. You are stuck with me forever. Unless you would rather stay in Beihai and leave me..."
"No! Of course not!" Zhu Dongyi cried out in delight. "Yunhuan or CNC, I am with you all the way!"
"That’s my manager," Shen Jingwei laughed.
"S-so, umm..." Zhu Dongyi hurriedly wiped traces of tears from the corners of his eyes. "Have you thought about it?"
Shen Jingwei nodded.
"Yes, but I haven’t made my decision yet. CNC Studio ruined my career three years ago, but it is undoubtedly a leading entertainment company in the film industry. Joining them might just open doors to various precious opportunities for me in the future.
On the other hand, I am more familiar with stars from Yunhuan, such as Feng Jietang and Lin Ruoye. They have their own strength compared to CNC, but right now CNC seems to be the more dominant player..."
"And what are you doing here, again?" A cold voice was heard some distance away from Shen Jingwei’s resting corner.
Both men craned their necks in the source’s direction.
"Who is that?" Shen Jingwei blinked at a new actor, who unluckily found himself at the end of Shang Ruohai’s sharp glares.
"That is..."
Zhu Dongyi repositioned the glasses perching on his nose.
"Unless I am mistaken, that would be Feng Jieyun, the CEO of Yunhuan Entertainment."
Shen Jingwei widened his eyes in disbelief.
"CEO of Yunhuan Entertainment? Why is he here???"
Shang Ruohai asked the exact question just now.
Feng Jieyun, clothed in an elaborate set of robe with Shuiran Palace sigil stamped at its back, graciously provided the answer, "Didn’t you know? The person who was supposed to play Jiang Rufeng could not make it, so I offered to step into the role."
Shang Ruohai inhaled sharply, his gaze piercing Feng Jieyun with a intensity that seemed capable of drilling holes.
Shen Jingwei leaned toward Zhu Dongyi and whispered, "I take it that these two do not get along with each other?"
Zhu Dongyi whispered back, "Worse. I heard that they were entangled in a scandalous affair several years ago."
Now that was news.
"What scandalous affair?" Shen Jingwei pressed on.
Zhu Dongyi cleared his throat before he answered.
"According to circulating rumors back then, those two spent a night together in a five-star hotel."
"..."
One was a CEO’s son, heir of the CNC Studio, and the other was the CEO of the rival company, Yunhuan Entertainment.
