Chapter 62 : Forever Your Greatest Fan

Chapter 62: Chapter 62 : Forever Your Greatest Fan

Feng Jietang was kissing him.

It felt so wrong, but at the same time, it didn’t.

When Shen Jingwei closed his eyes and gave in to the electrifying sensation, his mind was wiped clean.

The only thing that mattered right now was the searing lip-to-lip connection, the hunting breaths they exchanged, and the taste of Feng Jietang’s lips.

Shen Jingwei was drowning in the passionate intensity of the kiss, his senses overwhelmed. But the moment Feng Jietang’s tongue sought to delve deeper, Shen Jingwei was rudely awakened from his blissful trance.

"Wait."

Shen Jingwei broke the kiss and pressed both hands against Feng Jietang’s shoulders.

Only as their kiss faded did the blush of embarrassment creep across their faces, painting their cheeks a charming crimson.

Feng Jietang looked especially ashamed of his impulsive action just now.

"I am sorry," he quickly apologized. "That was uncalled for. I..."

Shen Jingwei shook his head.

"It was not like you forced a kiss upon me. I kissed you as well."

If that’s the case, then why did Shen Jingwei break the kiss?

The question perched at the tip of Feng Jietang’s tongue, but he was not brazen enough to say it out loud.

"For... For all it matters, I... I like you very much, Little Shen."

Feng Jietang’s Adam’s Apple bobbed up and down in anxiety when he spoke.

"So please, please don’t think so badly of yourself. It will only make me unhappy."

"..."

"Ah, the hotpot!!!"

Happy to have anything to distract him, Feng Jietang diligently fished out the cooked ingredients from the bubbling spicy pot.

"Eat, eat! Gods, I am starving!"

A soft, wistful smile formed on Shen Jingwei’s lips as he picked up his chopsticks and joined Feng Jietang.

"Thank you," he said after a while. "It means a lot, coming from you."

Feng Jietang’s head was no different from a gigantic, ripe tomato overflowing with juice.

If he spoke anymore, blood might just burst out of his nose.

So the two men stopped speaking and started eating.

Shen Jingwei wasn’t able to explain it, but he felt a lot better afterward.

While gobbling down the scrumptious food, he was able to detach himself from his problem and just wallowed in the comfort of an amazing meal and good company.

Feng Jietang excused himself to go to the bathroom, and Shen Jingwei took the chance to take care of the bill.

"I would like to pay, please," he said as soon as he arrived at the payment counter.

"Oh, table 5? The bill has been paid by the other gentleman. Thank you for your patronage."

"..."

When did that even happen? Before or after the kiss?

When he returned to the table, Feng Jietang was already waiting for him with a victorious smile plastered all over his face.

"You are an easy opponent," he remarked playfully. "I recall in an occasion when I literally had to wrestle a friend to the floor before he allowed me to pay for the meal*."

Shen Jingwei arched a brow at him.

"Say, has anyone ever beaten you in this competition before?"

Feng Jietang hummed.

"Yes, but not many. I always had my revenge the next time."

Before they left, the restaurant gifted them with a 30% voucher for their next meal, valid for the next three months.

Feng Jietang tucked the voucher into Shen Jingwei’s hand.

"If you ask me out on a date the next time, I will be kind enough to allow you to pay. ONCE."

Shen Jingwei chuckled.

"How generous."

Feng Jietang wanted to walk him to his apartment, but Shen Jingwei refused.

It was already late, and Feng Jietang did not have much more time to squander on him.

And so, Feng Jietang left with his manager, who had been waiting for him outside the restaurant for quite some time.

Meanwhile, Shen Jingwei slowly walked the short distance between the hotpot restaurant and his apartment building.

Shortly before sunset, the air temperature already dropped several degrees, giving the surrounding area a cool and refreshing note.

Shen Jingwei took a deep breath and gazed into the distance.

Overhearing Yan Renzhong’s conversation with his lover that night threw him out of the loop, making him spiral into a vortex of self-hatred and regret.

But Feng Jietang came specifically to console him.

And that kiss...

...

Shen Jingwei gingerly rubbed at his lips.

A tantalizing sensation lingered on them. Was it the spicy hotpot or the taste of Feng Jietang’s kiss?

It mixed with the complex emotions spreading in his heart, like a drop of red ink in a glass bowl of clear water.

He was a gay man, but what about Feng Jietang?

Feng Jietang was supposedly straight.

Or that was what everyone assumed, because no actor would consciously declare themselves to be homosexual.

It might just mean the end of their career.

So that kiss...

Was it done merely out of impulse?

Feng Jietang saw how distraught he was, and he tried to comfort him like he would a girl...

Shen Jingwei pressed a hand against his face.

Goodness.

Hopefully, no one saw them.

Shen Jingwei slowly walked up the stairs to reach his apartment.

He stopped in his tracks when he saw something hanging on his door’s handle.

It was a gift bag.

"..."

Shen Jingwei carefully unfastened the bag from the doorknob, his curiosity piqued. Inside, he discovered a delightful surprise -- a soft pink rabbit plush adorned with a bright red heart and a delicate ribbon around its neck.

Accompanying the plush was a tempting box of strawberry cheesecake, its creamy lemon icing topped with juicy chunks of sweet strawberries.

The cake came from his favorite patisserie, J’Adore.

Shen Jingwei looked around, hoping to find the gifter close by, but the corridor was empty.

Dissatisfied, he decided to rummage further into the gift bag to find some other clues.

At the bottom of the gift bag was a white card, with only a simple sentence written across it : "Wishing you all the best. Forever your greatest fan, SS."

Shen Jingwei flipped the white card in his hand to see if anything else was written on the other side.

There was nothing.

SS...

SS...

Supreme Spearmaster.

Just downstairs, a sleek black car pulled away from Shen Jingwei’s apartment building and headed toward the highway.

In the backseat, Yan Renzhong gazed out the window, lost in his own thoughts.

Author’s note :

*This author also doesn’t understand why, but Chinese friends like to fight over who pays the bill.

Culturally, it is their way to express their generosity and goodwill.

The closer the friendship, the more vigorous the argument over the bill.
