Chapter 60: Chapter 60 : A Declaration And No Plan

"Heh."

Shen Jingwei stepped closer to Lang Yuxuan until they were only half a step away from each other.

They were of approximately similar height, but Shen Jingwei was slightly taller than Lang Yuxuan. Close-up, Lang Yuxuan had to crane his neck slightly to look up at his opponent.

Standing face to face like this, no matter how brave Lang Yuxuan acted, he still felt a little intimidated by this senior.

"Too bad you are not playing Xie Jianyu," Shen Jingwei gently said, in contrast to the layer of ice coating his eyes. "I am."

Lang Yuxuan took a deep, measured breath before he spoke again.

"Senior Shen, with all due respect, it is not too late to step back now."

Shen Jingwei narrowed his eyes at the brazen young man in front of him.

"With all due respect, who are you to ask me that?"

"I am not asking," Lang Yuxuan corrected him smoothly. "I am merely giving you a suggestion based on the current circumstances."

"Oh?"

Shen Jingwei cocked his head to the side, his lips twisting into a mocking sneer.

"A junior giving me a suggestion. How rare. Is it raining gold coins out there?"

Malice flashed across Lang Yuxuan’s eyes, but he said nothing in return. He merely curled his fingers into fists.

Shen Jingwei rolled with his eyes and scoffed.

"Old Zhu, our car is here. Let’s go."

The gap in their status tied his tongue just now, but Lang Yuxuan refused to let them leave just like that.

"Senior Shen, wait!"

Shen Jingwei was not waiting.

He refused to waste another second listening to Lang Yuxuan.

Stubbornly, Lang Yuxuan followed them outside and continued talking.

"Senior Shen, I am saying this for the good of the drama. You are obviously not suitable for such an important role. I can help you get another role in another drama. Just let this one go. CNC Studio will find a better, more capable actor to play Xie Jianyu."

Zhu Dongyi opened the trunk and the driver swiftly loaded their suitcases inside.

Shen Jingwei opened the door to the back seat, put his bag inside, and turned around to look at Lang Yuxuan.

"Like you, for example?" He asked in a mocking tone.

"Exactly," Lang Yuxuan confirmed. He no longer wished to be polite. Shen Jingwei had gone from being a thorn in his side to a veritable pain in his neck. He had to get rid of him this very second.

"Senior Yan and I have amazing chemistry on and off screen. I can easily complete the scene you failed repeatedly in a single take," he boasted in full confidence.

Shen Jingwei shook his head and laughed.

"Oh, Lang Yuxuan..."

"I will not inconvenience the team the way you did...!"

Shen Jingwei almost felt sorry for the younger man.

Still, one must applaud his persistence.

Given Lang Yuxuan’s candor, Shen Jingwei ought to return the favor.

Shen Jingwei climbed into the car and leaned his arms against the car window’s bottom frame, beaming upward at Lang Yuxuan.

"Listen well, Lang Yuxuan. If you were the perfect person to play Xie Jianyu, you wouldn’t lose the role in the first place.

If you cannot get the role even with Yan Renzhong as your mentor, I fear that you will never get a chance to play Xie Jianyu in your entire life.

You may want to consult Yan Renzhong about this matter. Either way, the decision to appoint me as the male lead did not rest in my hand."

Lang Yuxuan gritted his teeth at him.

"I am going to do everything in my might to take the role away from you."

"And I am going to return stronger than before," Shen Jingwei said, his eyes flashing with determination. "And I am going to deliver a performance that would make your jaw drop from amazement."

The car took off, leaving only a whirlwind of dust behind. Lang Yuxuan patted dust off his clothes and calmly watched the car depart.

Inside the car, the murderous aura radiating from Shen Jingwei kept Zhu Dongyi mute and rigid. He was too afraid to breathe, let alone speak.

"Old Zhu," Shen Jingwei called out after a while.

"Y-yes?"

"I have to overcome this stumbling stone," Shen Jingwei said while glaring ahead of him. "And I will. Just give me several days to compose myself."

"Y-yes, of course."

Zhu Dongyi disliked Lang Yuxuan, but if Lang Yuxuan could become the catalyst to make Shen Jingwei overcome his problems as soon as possible, Zhu Dongyi was more than willing to tolerate him.

As promised, Zhu Dongyi dropped Shen Jingwei at his apartment.

"Well then, Little Shen, remember, I am just a phone call away," he told his protégé.

"Yes, don’t worry about me."

Zhu Dongyi squeezed his hands in restlessness.

"Can I at least get you something to eat...?"

"I want to cook by myself."

"Can I help you buy groceries...?"

"No."

Shen Jingwei sighed. "You have been gone for weeks. Your family misses you terribly. Go home, Old Zhu."

Despite his utmost reluctance, Zhu Dongyi eventually left.

Shen Jingwei leaned against his bed and stared off into the distance.

He valiantly declared that he would dazzle Lang Yuxuan with his acting, but here he was, adrift with neither plan nor strategy.

Shen Jingwei’s gaze landed on the stack of novels next to his bed.

"Dance Of The Dragons".

Should he re-read the novel to get a better feel of his role?

Perhaps then he could break free from the constraints of Shen Jingwei and immerse himself completely in the role of Xie Jianyu.

To be clear, the Xie Jianyu in the trial was not even the real Xie Jianyu.

It was merely an illusion, a specter fabricated by the Three Realm Spear to assess Zhang Fengxi’s resolve in wielding its might.

Shen Jingwei started reading the lines in the script, both his and Yan Renzhong’s.

He could read them just fine, but the words that came out of his mouth were empty and devoid of emotions.

And if Yan Renzhong tried to kiss him again, he would freak out again for sure.

Shen Jingwei put the script on his lap and sighed.

What to do?

Suddenly, the doorbell rang, announcing a visitor’s arrival.

Shen Jingwei peeled himself off his bedroom door and walked toward the door.

"Old Zhu, I told you I am fine," he said before he even opened the door.

But the man who stood in front of the door was not Zhu Dongyi at all.

It was Feng Jietang.

"Hey," the man lifted a hand and greeted Shen Jingwei sheepishly.
