Chun Yao’s manager approached Shen Jingwei hastily.

"Hello, hello, please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Xu Chengjiu. Excuse me, young man, may I know your name? Who is your manager?"

"Can we skip the formalities and just shoot now?" Chun Yao glared at her manager. "I am in a hurry here! None of you can find me a handsome guy and he was just standing right outside my door! If this is not fate, I don’t know what is!"

Shen Jingwei pulled his lips into a winning, but stiff smile.

Shang Ruohai flashed him two thumbs-up.

Since all preparations save for the male lead were complete, the MV shooting went quickly and smoothly.

By the end of the shoot, Chun Yao was absolutely smitten with this handsome guy she found outside the door.

Manager Xu couldn’t help but lean closer to Shang Ruohai and asked, "Mr. Shang, sorry for the interruption but is this person by chance a new recruit?"

Shang Ruohai hummed to himself and furrowed his brows slightly.

"I don’t think so."

"Oh, so he is probably an oldtimer with low popularity then. What a pity, with that handsome face..."

Manager Xu rubbed his hands together expectantly.

"If he agrees and is willing to switch under me, I can help him become a big star under the heaven."

Shang Ruohai cackled, but he did not bother correcting Manager Xu’s misperception.

"You can do everything, Manager Xu," he even boosted the manager’s confidence a level higher.

The MV shoot wrapped up within three hours. At the end of it, Chun Yao was all smiles.

"So tell me, what’s your name?" She asked Shen Jingwei with eyes sparkling like two diamond stones under the sun.

"Shen Jingwei."

Chun Yao’s smile froze.

"Come again?" She said through her teeth.

Shen Jingwei beamed at her.

"I said, my name is Shen Jingwei."

The entire building shook visibly when Chun Yao’s bloodcurdling scream was heard from the basement.

The three men managed to cover their ears in time before their eardrums were blasted by Chun Yao’s scream.

"Top singer at CNC Studio," Shang Ruohai told Shen Jingwei. "You understand."

"I do," Shen Jingwei replied.

"You... You, you, you!!!"

Chun Yao raised a trembling finger at Shen Jingwei.

"Why are you even here? You deceived me! I want security! SECURITY!"

Chun Yao did not need to wait long, because five security guards were already on their way when they heard the ruckus downstairs.

"Miss Chun Yao!"

"Miss Chun Yao, is everything alright?"

"Did anyone bully you?"

Chun Yao quickly burst into tears. She pointed at Shen Jingwei.

"It’s this person, wuwuwu... He deceived me, wuwuwu... I have been wronged..."

Shang Ruohai cleared his throat and stepped in front of Shen Jingwei, shielding him from the security guards.

"Gentlemen, there is a misunderstanding here. Miss Chun Yao, how did Mr. Shen deceive you? Were you not the one who offered him the job?"

"Yes, but...!"

"Were you not the one who asked Manager Xu to skip all formalities?"

"Yes, but...!"

"Then, what right do you have to claim that you have been wronged?"

Chun Yao’s lips started quivering, but Shang Ruohai was not done yet.

"If anything, you owe Mr. Shen a heartfelt apology along with the salary for the good job he did while shooting your MV."

A good manager Xu Chengjiu was, he quickly intervened before Chun Yao burst into tears.

"Aiyah, everyone, we are all familiar with each other. Must we treat each other harshly? Come, come. Let’s talk everything out in the meeting room."

The security guards left in utter and complete bewilderment.

Manager Xu ushered everyone into a meeting room. Chun Yao immediately went to sit in the corner and sulked. Her trembling shoulders suggested that she had been bullied by the three men, including her own manager, who refused to give in to her demands.

Shen Jingwei shot Shang Ruohai and Manager Xu an apologetic look.

"I am sorry, but... Can I talk to her alone?"

The request inadvertently made Manager Xu inhale sharply. Shang Ruohai, on the other hand, patted him on the back.

"It’s fine. Let’s go, Manager Xu."

"But... but, Mr. Shang..."

Manager Xu clearly was reluctant to leave Chun Yao with Shen Jingwei alone.

"I said, it’s fine. Come on."

Shang Ruohai started dragging Xu Chengjiu out of the room, not without the latter throwing concerned looks at the pair.

Shen Jingwei went over to Chun Yao and sat next to her with a sigh.

"I am sorry if I hurt your feelings," he said softly. "I did not come here to deceive you. I merely wanted to know why you hated me so much."

"I still hate you," Chun Yao raised her head and snapped at Shen Jingwei fiercely. Close-up, she almost looked like a younger version of Feng Jietang’s lion.

"You said that I was handsome," Shen Jingwei pointed out. "You liked my face enough that you didn’t even want to know my name beforehand. You insisted that I feature in your MV and that we commence with the shoot as soon as possible. But when you rejected me, you said that you could not stand my face."

Chun Yao let out a small whimper and buried her face in her arms.

"Please," Shen Jingwei said with the tone he often employed to win over the ladies at the Handsome Butler Coffee Shop. "If I have hurt you in any way, I would like to know when and where. I never let any debt go unpaid."

Chun Yao scowled.

"You didn’t hurt me," she slowly said. "But you did hurt my Big Brother Yan. I will never forgive you for that."

"..."

Shen Jingwei stared at her for a while before suddenly remembering when and where he had heard her name -- Chun Yao.

"But Emperor Yan is straight, isn’t he? Besides, I heard that he was dating that singer, Chun Yao!"

Shen Jingwei smacked himself in the face.

Suddenly, it all made sense now.
