Second Take On Romance - The A-List Actor Wants Me
Chapter 39 : Another Job Opportunity

Chapter 39: Chapter 39 : Another Job Opportunity

It was certainly not an exaggeration to say that men turned into babies once they were sick.

"More."

Yan Renzhong held out the empty bowl of wonton soup at Shen Jingwei. The latter took it wordlessly, went back to the kitchen, and scooped the Emperor a second bowl.

Wen Guilin and Zhu Dongyi conveniently returned after being gone for almost three hours.

Once they were back, they obviously already agreed on several practiced lines to placate the fuming Shen Jingwei.

"So sorry to disrupt your schedule, Little Shen!" Yan Renzhong’s manager shook the unhappy man’s hand in gratitude. She was obviously not sorry in the slightest.

"I see that you even had to cook some food for Little Yan. I am in your debt!"

Shen Jingwei pursed his lips at Wen Guilin. He smoothly retracted his hand out of the woman’s grip.

"I wonder what took you so long, Manager Wen."

"Traffic," both managers said in unison.

"Horrible traffic," Zhu Dongyi emphasized. "I tried everything to get back as soon as possible."

"..."

Suuuure.

Fortunately, Shen Jingwei was not in the mood to go into details.

"I should go now. I am two hours late for my dance class."

Which should be over by now, he added with a darkened face.

"Aiyah, no bother, no bother!" Zhu Dongyi piped up. "I already talked to the dance instructor. You can take all four hours in two days!"

Shen Jingwei almost choked on his own spit.

"Anyway, the gift is in the bag. Open it yourself. I need to go now."

Shen Jingwei marched out of the door, while Zhu Dongyi was busy bowing on his way out.

The front door fell shut, and Wen Guilin looked at Yan Renzhong expectantly.

"Well?"

Yan Renzhong was still busy eating wontons.

"Well, what?" He asked languidly.

"Any progress between the both of you?"

Yan Renzhong made a zero sign with his left hand.

Wen Guilin rolled with her eyes.

"After everything I have done," she lamented while walking toward the stovetop to get herself some wonton soup.

"Wow, this is not half bad at all," she praised while inhaling the fragrant smell.

"Wait," Yan Renzhong spoke up suddenly. "That’s mine."

Wen Guilin turned around and gave him a look.

"The entire pot? Can’t you share a little bit?"

"No," Yan Renzhong decisively said. "You can order takeouts. My treat."

"Fine."

Wen Guilin held both hands up in surrender as she distanced herself from the glorious pot of wonton soup.

Yan Renzhong continued eating in peace.

Meanwhile, Shen Jingwei and Zhu Dongyi were already in the latter’s car, about to head to the gym.

That was when Shen Jingwei caught sight of the apothecary across the street.

"Wait a moment, isn’t that...?"

Before Shen Jingwei took a better look, the car already zoomed away.

"It is about to go bankrupt," Zhu Dongyi said. "They barely have any medicine."

"..."

Shen Jingwei shook his head in disbelief.

"I can’t believe you left me for three whole hours," Shen Jingwei complained.

"Aiyah, don’t be like this. Yan Renzhong is sick. As a good co-star, you should lend a helping hand and take a good care of him."

Nevertheless, he bought Shen Jingwei an extra large cup of matcha bubble tea.

Shen Jingwei was quickly placated.

"Little Shen, ah, Manager Wen and I talked a little bit. She happened to have a job offer for you, maybe you are interested."

Shen Jingwei arched a brow at his manager. Jobs from Wen Guilin shouldn’t involve playing a five-minute cannon fodder or a corpse.

"What job?" He asked.

"It’s to film an MV* for singer Chun Yao. Originally, Yan Renzhong already agreed to be in the MV, but since he has yet to recover from his sprained ankle, he has to cancel.

The shooting is in three days, and Chun Yao’s production team has yet to find a replacement.

Manager Wen is willing to recommend you personally to Chun Yao if you are interested."

Chun Yao.

Chun Yao, Chun Yao.

Her name seemed familiar, but he did not know when and where he heard her name before.

"What is the MV about?" He asked while taking a sip from his bubble tea.

"Right... Let me send it to you real quick."

Like a pro, Zhu Dongyi scrolled his phone with one hand and forwarded the MV script from Wen Guilin to Shen Jingwei.

Shen Jingwei opened it and read it out loud.

"The MV’s setting is in the 80’s. It tells a story about a girl who is in love with a bad boy from the neighborhood. Her parents are naturally against the relationship, so they run away together to get married.

Unfortunately, her parents catch up with them and end up wounding the bad boy mortally. The bad boy dies in the girl’s arms."

Shen Jingwei did not know whether to laugh or cry.

"Why must I always play people who end up dead?"

"Hey hey, technically this is not a cannon fodder position. You are a main character, Chun Yao’s lover here. Sure, the story is tragic, but it doesn’t mean that the song won’t sell."

"Of course not," Shen Jingwei agreed. "I will take it."

"Wonderful!" Zhu Dongyi cried out in excitement. "You know what, Little Shen? I think things are slowly looking up for you. First, you get the male role lead in ’Dance Of The Dragons’, and now you land a role in this MV. I can see it now, Little Shen. Your future is as bright as the sun!"

Shen Jingwei laughed.

"Thanks to your hard work as well."

Shen Jingwei didn’t want to be too optimistic, but he was quite happy about this small job.

Maybe his days in Handsome Butler Coffee Shop were soon to be over.

At least that was what he thought, until Zhu Dongyi called him that night to share some bad news.

"Little Shen, the job offer has been retracted. Chun Yao has expressed her unwillingness to work with you."
