Chapter 287: Chapter 287 : The Kunlun Snow Lotus Award Ceremony (2)

Lin Ruoye started getting worried when the award ceremony started but Shen Jingwei had yet to return.

She kept craning her neck toward the hall entrance, hoping to see Shen Jingwei’s silhouette to no avail.

The one who showed up in the end turned to be Shang Ruohai.

"Hello, Little Lin," he greeted the young actress after he took a seat on Shen Jingwei’s chair.

Lin Ruoye, ever polite, bowed her head in a hurry.

"Senior Shang, good evening!"

Shang Ruohai smiled at her.

"Pretty dress," he praised her. "By the way, where is Shen Jingwei?"

"That... I am not sure. He said that he needed to go somewhere real quick, so he left."

"Oh, really."

Shang Ruohai furrowed his brows in contemplation.

"Is that so? Hmm..."

It took fifteen more minutes of waiting until Shen Jingwei returned to the event venue.

He slowly made his way along the occupied row of chairs, until he saw Shang Ruohai, who was sitting on his chair.

"..."

Shang Ruohai, who did not notice anything amiss, beamed at him.

"Hello, Little Shen. I have some good news for you. Come with me."

Shen Jingwei had a complicated and yet indecipherable expression across his face.

"... What is it?" He asked.

"Can’t tell you here."

Shang Ruohai’s smile widened, extending to his eyes.

"Let’s go. Let’s talk over there."

"..."

Shen Jingwei silently followed Shang Ruohai.

They left the seating area and headed to a small room at the backstage.

Once they were alone, Shang Ruohai grabbed Shen Jingwei’s shoulders and gave him the good news.

"Little Shen, your hard work has paid off. You are one of the nominees for the Rising Star Category."

"..."

Unlike the nominees of other categories, the nominees of the Rising Star Category were picked secretly by a team of dedicated judges but not announced days before the ceremony.

This award was exclusively given to individuals with exceptional potential, poised to make significant contributions to the entertainment industry in the near future.

Back when he was still a student at an acting academy, he had once dreamt of winning the annual Best Actor award.

The Kunlun Snow Lotus Award, regardless of category, was a prestigious honor beyond his wildest dreams!

To think that a Z-Lister, who more than a year ago still worked part-time at the Handsome Butler Coffee Shop to finance his life, actually became a nominee for a Kunlun Snow Lotus Award!

Shen Jingwei was rendered absolutely speechless.

"Congratulations," Shang Ruohai shook at his shoulders. "You earned it, Shen Jingwei. Congratulations."

"..."

Shen Jingwei’s happy expression faded slightly when he stared at the man in front of him.

In his joy, again Shang Ruohai failed to register the unnatural expression on Shen Jingwei’s face.

"This year, I have been selected to present the award for the Rising Star Category."

"..."

Shen Jingwei squeezed his eyes shut for one second.

"I can’t believe it. Wow. If you and Yan Renzhong both win, it would be amazing!"

Shen Jingwei curled his fingers into fists. They hung like dead weight at his sides.

"It must be great for you," he said. "I guess this marks your victory over your elder brother?"

Shang Ruohai’s broad grin dampened slightly.

"Oh, you heard about it. Yan Renzhong must have told you all about the inner politics of CNC Studio."

"But yes, you are right. If I have two Kunlun Snow Lotus Award winners under me, Shang Ruohan has no chance to win the CEO seat. It will be mine for sure."

Heh.

Shen Jingwei wanted to laugh and scream at Shang Ruohai at the same time.

In the end, they were all nothing but pawns, shoved across the chessboard at the masters’ pleasure.

How disgusting.

Shen Jingwei clawed into his scalp. He tried to maintain his composure, but his fury still bled into his voice.

"So I heard that you were involved in my downfall three years ago."

Now, Shang Ruohai’s smile completely vanished from his face.

"Well, yes. Yan Renzhong told you everything, right?"

Only now did he notice the strange light burning in the depth of Shen Jingwei’s pupils.

Why did Shen Jingwei mention this ancient history again?

Shen Jingwei slowly shook his head.

"No, he didn’t. But I found out everything today."

Shen Jingwei took only one photo with him, and returned the casefile and the phone tablet to Shang Ruohan.

At that moment, the photo was delicately held between his two fingers at Shang Ruohai’s eye level.

The photo depicted Shang Ruohai and another man in front of a hotel suite.

It was Feng Jieyun, the CEO of Yunhuan Entertainment.

Both men had their eyes closed, their hands roaming each other’s bodies as they engaged in a sensual kiss.

Though he had only seen this photo once, three years prior, its vivid image remained permanently imprinted on Shang Ruohai’s mind.

And every time he looked at Feng Jieyun’s face, he was instantly reminded of what transpired between them three years ago.

In fact, this single affair was the reason for his animosity toward Feng Jieyun all these years.

The memories of the unpleasant affair made his stomach churn from anger and his mouth dry from anxiety.

"Where did you get the photo from?" He heard himself asking.

"I don’t think I need to answer that question," Shen Jingwei replied nonchalantly. "You, on the other hand, owe me an explanation."

"..."

"Did you, or did you not intentionally frame me to cover up your own scandalous affair three years ago?"

The two men stared at each other.

Under Shen Jingwei’s sharp and unrelenting gaze, Shang Ruohai was left with no other choice but confess.

"Yes," he said. "That’s right."

The words barely left his lips when a fist swung in his direction and flew across his face.

The unexpected blow, delivered with immense force, sent Shang Ruohai reeling, almost causing him to lose his balance.

But it was Shen Jingwei’s venomous eyes, shining with hatred and disgust, that shook Shang Ruohai to the core.

"You asshole," Shen Jingwei hissed. "It was you all along."
