After Shen Jingwei stormed off the clinic, Yan Renzhong expected to come home to an empty apartment.

Surprisingly, Shen Jingwei was sitting on the living room couch in the lotus position, hugging the pillow with a gloomy face.

"Hey," he said, glowering at Yan Renzhong like the latter was his sworn mortal enemy.

Yan Renzhong chuckled. He tossed his coat aside and took his seat next to Shen Jingwei.

"Are you waiting for me to break up with me?" He asked, tilting his head to the side with an annoying smirk on his face.

Shen Jingwei scoffed.

"My stuff is still in my bedroom. You can check if you want."

The younger man put on a hardened front, but his reddened eyes and thin, tightly pulled lips told an entirely different story.

Yan Renzhong clicked with his tongue and cradled Shen Jingwei’s face in his palm.

Before he even said anything, Shen Jingwei snapped at him with the ferocity of a dragon, "Spare me the apology. It means nothing, coming from you."

Shen Jingwei looked like he was ready to start a cold war between them, but he did not resist when Yan Renzhong pulled him onto his lap. Although Shen Jingwei was bristling with anger like an aggrieved kitten, he was still as warm and cuddly as he was before he found out about Yan Renzhong’s illness.

"You are right, I am not sorry for what I have done, but I am sorry for the pain it caused you."

Yan Renzhong gently pressed his lips against Shen Jingwei’s shoulder.

"I love you."

"And I hate you," Shen Jingwei replied without skipping a beat.

Those words were spoken out of spite, Yan Renzhong knew that much. Still, they pricked at his heart.

"But..."

Shen Jingwei wriggled out of Yan Renzhong’s embrace and looked him straight in the eyes.

"I want to be here with you, for as long as possible. Even if you kick me out, I am going to come back again and again."

In the end, no matter how many times he said he hated Yan Renzhong, and how much he despised Yan Renzhong’s scheming behind his back, he still wanted to be with Yan Renzhong.

And yet, Yan Renzhong’s cruel words in the clinic, however logical, still resonated in his heart, making him feel insecure and useless.

A soft chuckle was heard, and Yan Renzhong pulled him into another embrace. Shen Jingwei’s heart skipped a beat when Yan Renzhong snuggled close to him and rubbed the back of his head lovingly.

"Then please accompany me for the time being. And please wait for me until I come back to your side."

Shen Jingwei swallowed the unshed tears into his stomach and put his arms around Yan Renzhong, holding him close.

The atmosphere between the couple was very good throughout the night, dotted with a lot of loving interactions. And yet, Shen Jingwei’s anger was far from being quelled.

Sensing that the younger man came bearing his own kind of hurricane, Shang Ruohai was tactful enough to receive him in his office and not in some meeting room where people could hear him screaming at his new mentor.

True to prediction, Shen Jingwei was everything but happy.

"You two make an amazing team," he snarled at Shang Ruohai before Shang Ruohai got to enjoy the cup of coffee brought in by Secretary Chen. "You actually acquired an entire entertainment company just because Yan Renzhong asked you to. I am touched to the point that I want to throw up."

Shang Ruohai wrinkled his nose at the unpleasant imagery.

"Kindly do not throw up into my coffee. You are going to ruin it for me forever."

One look at Shen Jingwei’s face told everyone that there was nothing he would love to do more than throwing up into Shang Ruohai’s cup of coffee at that very moment. Unfortunately, the petty act of revenge was not going to help Shen Jingwei further in his plight.

"I want you to fix it," he demanded from the actor more than a decade his senior.

Shang Ruohai took a sip from his vomit-free coffee before he subsequently arched a brow at Shen Jingwei.

"Now, why would I do that?"

Shen Jingwei could barely believe his ears.

"Because you tricked me!" he cried out. "If you have any drop of decency in your body, you should do what’s right!"

Shang Ruohai heaved a long sigh.

"Pray tell, what is right in your eyes?"

"If you hold his hands during the surgery, will the success rate increase?"

"If you accompany Yan Renzhong during his months of recovery, is he going to be healed miraculously?" Shang Ruohai asked again.

He smirked.

"I suppose the answers for both questions are ’no’."

Shen Jingwei gritted his teeth.

"Still, I want to be there for him. I need to be there for him. Why is it so difficult to understand? Don’t you two have people you love? Can’t you understand my feelings right now?"

Shang Ruohai pinned Shen Jingwei with a look for a long while before he responded.
