Chapter 276: Chapter 276 : Tell Me In Your Own Words (1)
"Cough, cough..."
Wen Guilin sniffled into her handkerchief, prompting Yan Renzhong to give her an annoyed look.
"Manager Wen, I am not dead yet."
Wen Guilin blowed into her handkerchief.
"We are discussing your estate planning. How can I not be sad?"
Yan Renzhong shook his head slightly.
"Everyone has to do this at some point," he offered a somber reply, but it did not make Wen Guilin feel any better. If anything, she felt even worse.
"Let me summarize the content of your will, Mr. Yan," Lawyer Hui said as he traced the bullet points in the document for Yan Renzhong to read.
"The house you bought for the Song sisters will be transferred to Song Yaya after she reaches the age of eighteen.
The Shen family’s house, the apartment at Red Jade Pavilion, and your many estates all over the country will be transferred to Mr. Shen Jingwei upon your demise.
A trust fund of this amount will be established to secure Song Yaya’s future, and I will oversee her education and financial needs.
A separate trust fund will provide Song Xiaoling with a monthly stipend, ensuring a steady income for life.
Your remaining assets, minus the costs associated with your funeral arrangements, will be bequeathed to Mr. Shen Jingwei."
Wen Guilin swallowed hard.
Shen Jingwei was going to become a billionaire overnight. That was probably a small consolation in light of Yan Renzhong’s passing.
Yan Renzhong scrutinized the figures one by one before he nodded once, signifying his approval.
"Good. One more thing."
He slid a white envelope in Wen Guilin’s direction.
"Manager Wen, if something goes wrong and I pass away during the surgery, please hand this letter to Shen Jingwei. I explain everything inside."
Everyone in the room widened their eyes at Yan Renzhong. Wen Guilin, who was tasked with this heavy burden, was the first to speak up.
"Wait, what?"
Wen Guilin’s blood pressure almost went over the limit.
"What do you mean, you explain everything inside? Doesn’t Shen Jingwei know about your illness?"
Yan Renzhong shook his head once.
"No."
All the other three people in the room gaped at Yan Renzhong as if the latter had gone completely insane.
"Mr. Yan, if Mr. Shen means so much to you that you plan to bequeath almost all your assets to him, you should at least tell him about your condition," Lawyer Hui commented.
"Mr. Yan, taking into consideration the serious nature of your illness, it might be wise to warn Mr. Shen about the possible implications," Dr. Kang carefully said.
"Yan Renzhong, are you out of your mind? I am not going to hand this letter to Shen Jingwei when you are lying cold in a coffin!" Wen Guilin exclaimed.
Yan Renzhong gave his manager a look of defiance.
"Are you really denying a dying man his last wish?"
"You are not dying yet!" Wen Guilin cried out. She started to wonder if she should hit her protégé in the head. Maybe it could drive the insane notion out of his mind. "Tell Shen Jingwei everything yourself!"
Wen Guilin’s words must have some magical abilities, because they conjured the very man they were speaking about.
The door to Dr. Kang’s consultation room was pushed open, and Shen Jingwei appeared at the door.
"Sir, please leave!" Dr. Kang’s nurse frantically pulled at Shen Jingwei’s arm, but the latter refused to move.
Shen Jingwei scanned the surprised faces in the room one by one before his eyes finally settled on Yan Renzhong.
"What do you need to tell me?" he asked his boyfriend. Yan Renzhong’s initial surprise quickly faded, replaced by a mask of indifference.
"..."
No one dared to make a noise, afraid of triggering an argument between the couple of lovers.
Then, Shen Jingwei took an empty bottle out of his pocket and chucked it in Yan Renzhong’s direction. It rolled across the official document on the table before coming to a halt in front of Yan Renzhong.
It used to contain the pills Dr. Kang prescribed to Yan Renzhong, to be used in the weeks leading to the surgery.
Yan Renzhong calmly picked up the bottle before he asked in a slow, even voice, "Where did you get this from?"
Shen Jingwei let out a dry, humorless chuckle, his eyes narrowing as his frustration grew.
"If anyone owes another an explanation, it would be you. Do you think you have the right to question me?"
Wen Guilin tugged at the sleeves of both Dr. Kang and Lawyer Hui, pulling them out of their trance.
She then tactfully rose to her feet.
"Uh, you two have a lot to talk about. We will go outside first."
Without waiting for Yan Renzhong’s answer, Wen Guilin hurriedly urged Dr. Kang and Lawyer Hui out of the room. Lawyer Hui wanted to gather the estate planning documents from the table, but a brief headshake from Yan Renzhong made him change his mind.
Once the door fell close behind the three fleeing figures, the air inside the room seemed to drop several degrees in temperature. The thick and oppressive silence that engulfed them was broken only by the rhythmic ticking of the clock that hung on the wall.
Shen Jingwei glared at Yan Renzhong, while the latter kept his eyes trained to the empty bottle on the table. The label pasted on the bottle bore the details of the medication, including the name of the prescribing neurologist.
Since Shen Jingwei was here, he must have discovered one thing or two about Yan Renzhong’s condition.
At this point, what was the use of hiding anything anymore?
With a resigned smile on his lips, Yan Renzhong slowly raised his eyes to meet Shen Jingwei’s. He then pointed at his own head.
"I have a brain tumor in my head," he stated. "Grade three."

Author’s note :
Usually, this author likes to drop some anecdotes and mini theaters at the end of the Chapters to brighten up the readers’ mood, but I realize that I am unable to do that while writing this arc. This author is too sad because she has to write the depressing details of Yan Renzhong’s condition.
Ah, my readers, please be strong when reading the next Chapters. Pray for our beloved celebrity couple.
