Chapter 241 : Slapped Hard In The Face
Chapter 241: Chapter 241 : Slapped Hard In The Face
With the irrefutable piece of evidence in his hand, Shang Ruohan marched into his father’s office, or better said his private hospital ward.
Secretary Chen was standing outside. Her standing position was so rigid that one might mistake her for a guard.
Upon seeing Shang Ruohan, she gave him a respectful head bow.
"Eldest Young Master Shang, hello."
Shang Ruohan stopped in his tracks and stared at Secretary Chen in bewilderment.
"Why are you here?" He snapped.
Unaffected by Shang Ruohan’s sharp tone and unfriendly demeanor, Secretary Chen replied without lifting her gaze, "Second Young Master Shang is inside, accompanying CEO Shang. Eldest Young Master Shang, should I announce your arrival...?"
Shang Ruohan snorted.
"No need," he said. "I am going to give my little brother a wonderful surprise."
His hand tightened around a flash drive, containing proof of Yan Renzhong’s abnormal sexual preference.
But when Shang Ruohan pushed the double door open, he was greeted by an unexpected sight.
Shang Ruohai was sitting on a comfortable armchair, his long legs crossed over each other in a relaxed manner.
Next to him, Shang Xiaoyi was sitting on the bed, with a stack of pillows behind his back to help him maintain the position.
They were watching the music video of Yan Renzhong’s newest single.
The flash drive in Shang Ruohan’s hand had never appeared more useless.
Noticing his eldest son’s arrival, Shang Xiaoyi turned his head at Shang Ruohan.
"Ruohan, come in. Have you listened to Yan Renzhong’s newest single?"
Goddamn it, old man, I have. I have watched that wretched video so many times. Why are you still looking at it? Don’t you hate gays?
And why the hell are you smiling, Ruohai? Do you need me to punch out some of your teeth???
Shang Ruohan’s internal monologue intensified, but he did not dare speak up his mind.
"I have," he ground out. "I see that Father and Ruohai are watching it together."
"One million sales online as we speak," Shang Ruohai beamed at his elder half-brother.
"Very well done, indeed, Ruohai," his father praised.
Shang Ruohan scoffed.
"I think we should focus on a more important issue, Father."
"Which is?" Shang Xiaoyi asked with a challenging tone.
"Allow me."
Confidently, Shang Ruohan moved forward the music video until it stopped at the frame he was burning to show his father.
"We have all the evidence we need now, Father. Yan Renzhong is gay. What an irremovable stain across our CNC Studio’s face."
Shang Ruohai’s cheeky smile didn’t fade the slightest.
Shang Xiaoyi let out a low, disdainful chuckle.
"So he swings both ways, what’s the problem with that?"
Shang Ruohan’s eyes widened in astonishment.
Huh?
Did he miss something here?
His father, his homophobic father, actually didn’t mind?
"Didn’t you hear what Ruohai said just now?" Shang Xiaoyi glared at his eldest son.
"One million copies sold, and counting. Even this music video has been downloaded a million times over all the streaming platforms.
We are making money as we speak."
"..."
Shang Ruohai struggled to wipe the schadenfreude smirk from his face.
As someone who personally waded through the murky waters of the entertainment industry for years, how did he not know how it worked?
Shang Xiaoyi, just like every other entertainment company owner, cared about one and one thing only -- profit.
He might abhor homosexuality inherently, but if a gay man could dump gold bars on his lap every morning, Shang Xiaoyi might even be persuaded to wear a rainbow tie every morning to work.
Right now, Yan Renzhong was their top moneymaking actor.
If his homosexuality was becoming a problem for CNC Studio, he could easily switch to another entertainment company.
Or he could make his own brand.
CNC Studio retained face but lost all that money.
So what’s the point of adhering to traditional values of heterosexuality? None.
Shang Ruohan refused to give up.
"And and... The copyrights! Have you even asked the author of Dance Of The Dragons if it is fine to use her poem? And you even used unpublished scenes from season two! It has to be against the rule, right? Right???" He asked, his tone grew more and more frantic with every question.
Shang Ruohai rose to his feet and smoothened the creases of his suit.
"Thank you for your concern, dear Brother. I have taken care of all the paperwork."
"...!!!"
Shang Xiaoyi pinned Shang Ruohan with a glare.
"Do you think that Ruohai is so stupid? Besides, Dance Of The Dragons
is his project. Shouldn’t he know the best what to use and what not to use? Just take it as a trailer for the second season!""..."
Shang Ruohan would not be surprised if his heart failed and he dropped dead on the spot.
This was too much to bear.
He couldn’t believe it.
And as if that was not enough, Shang Ruohai, this menace, just had to give him the coup de grâce.
"By the way father, since this single along with the music video was received by our audience with a lot of enthusiasm, wouldn’t it make sense to use it as the second season’s opening soundtrack?"
"...!!!"
Shang Xiaoyi rubbed at his chin and hummed in careful contemplation. After some time, he gave his consent.
"Why not? Just make sure to align the opening sequence with the soundtrack."
Shang Ruohan wanted to be buried on the spot.
Shang Ruohai smiled and nodded.
"Of course, Father."
Both brothers retreated from Shang Xiaoyi’s chamber.
Inside the elevator, Shang Ruohan punched the emergency button, prompting the elevator to halt.
"What the fuck have you done?" He snapped angrily at Shang Ruohai. "What kind of dirty trick is this?"
"Dirty?"
Shang Ruohai’s eyes were glazed with ice as he stared at Shang Ruohan.
"You were the one who stole my champion’s music video concept in the first place. Isn’t karma a bitch, dear Brother?"
Shang Ruohan laughed in anger.
"It’s not my problem if your people can’t keep their mouths shut."
"And it’s not my problem if your people can’t come up with a creative solution in time," Shang Ruohai sneered.
He reactivated the elevator, and it began to move downward.
"Do you think this is over?" Shang Ruohan snarled at him. "Just what would Father say if he knew what you are?"
Shang Ruohai stepped out of the elevator without wasting another word.
He appeared calm and collected, but those with keen eyes could see a storm raging in the depth of his pupils.
