Chapter 214: Chapter 214 : The Strained Relationship (1)

Although they always left the apartment in two different cars, they would at least spare some time to have breakfast together.

This period of thirty minutes to one hour was, on some busy days, the only time they got to see each other.

Therefore, it was endlessly precious to Shen Jingwei.

But the next morning, he woke up to an empty bed, an empty bedroom, and an empty apartment altogether.

Yan Renzhong had already left.

He left behind a box of breakfast and a tall cup of coffee, with a short, impersonal message : "Eat up. I am going out first."

Shen Jingwei held the note in his hand and sat at the kitchen counter in a daze.

Yan Renzhong was not only angry.

He was super pissed.

But why?

Just because he came home late last night...?

Wasn’t that too childish of him?

He sat there in silence, eating his breakfast in a rare moment of peace while pondering the best ways to coax Yan Renzhong, when Zhu Dongyi arrived.

"Little Shen!"

Zhu Dongyi was visibly upset.

"Why did you turn off your phone? Why didn’t you answer any of my messages?"

Shen Jingwei turned pale at the mention of his phone. Now he realized why his morning was so peaceful.

His phone was gone!

"Old Zhu, I lost my phone," Shen Jingwei blurted out.

Zhu Dongyi groaned like a tortured prisoner.

"Couldn’t you tell me that earlier?" He snapped.

"How??" Shen Jingwei asked, incredulous. "I can’t use my phone to contact you!"

"I will buy you a new phone," Zhu Dongyi said in a hurry. "Now get ready. We need to head to Peak Point Shooting Studio right away."

Shen Jingwei did not bother chewing through his breakfast. He wolfed everything down and ran into the bathroom for a quick shower.

When he and Zhu Dongyi arrived at the set, they stumbled upon a chaotic scene. A large crowd had gathered, their attention riveted on a spectacle unfolding before them.

"What’s going on?"

"Move, move, let us through!"

Several people squeezed past the crowd to get to the front row, including Shen Jingwei.

At the center of the commotion was Yan Renzhong and Feng Jietang. Both men had their hands at each other’s collar.

Trace of blood at a corner of Feng Jietang’s lips and a purplish bruise on Yan Renzhong’s cheek suggested that they already landed a hit on each other once.

Director Ma and Vice Director Qin stood by their sides to intervene. Several cast and crew members and also the actors’ respective managers were also seen pulling at both actors, urging them to separate.

"Feng Jietang, let go, come on..."

"Senior Feng..." Lin Ruoye tugged at Feng Jietang’s elbow. "Senior Feng, don’t be agitated..."

"Yan Renzhong, don’t do this. If you have anything to talk about, talk it out during a meal..." Wen Guilin begged.

Lang Yuxuan too was pulling at Yan Renzhong’s arm. "Senior Yan, don’t lose your cool over this fool."

The two men decisively ignored their surroundings. They were locked in a tense standoff, their eyes boring into each other with a fierce intensity. Each possessed a venomous tongue, capable of delivering scathing insults that could cut deep.

However, they both knew that any verbal altercation could escalate into a physical confrontation, resulting in severe consequences.

Had they been alone, their pent-up frustration and anger would have likely erupted into a violent brawl, leaving them both battered and bruised.

"Feng Jietang, Yan Renzhong!" Shen Jingwei called out from the side.

Both men tore their eyes from each other to look at Shen Jingwei, who marched toward them in long strides.

He looked one part concerned, one part shocked.

"Please stop," Shen Jingwei begged. "What’s wrong? What happened?"

Yan Renzhong was the first to let go, not without giving Feng Jietang a hard shove. Unprepared, the latter almost fell backward.

"Hey, asshole!" He snapped. "If you are a man, don’t just walk off! Hey!"

Wen Guilin apologized to everyone before she chased after Yan Renzhong.

Shen Jingwei too wanted to chase after Yan Renzhong, but Feng Jietang’s groan distracted him.

"What happened?" He asked Feng Jietang, who was wiping blood off his torn lip.

"That lunatic," Feng Jietang snapped. "He specifically sought me out just to tell me to stay the hell away from you. Who does he think he is? Your father???"

Shen Jingwei sighed inwardly.

It was his fault. He did not pay enough attention to Yan Renzhong last night. Yan Renzhong probably thought that Feng Jietang had something to do with Shen Jingwei staying out longer than planned.

Well, he did, but it was not what Yan Renzhong thought.

Shen Jingwei walked across the set to find Yan Renzhong, but he was stopped by a costume preparation team member.

"Mr. Shen, what are you doing?" She snapped.

"I am just..."

"No time for that," she snapped as she dragged Shen Jingwei into the opposite direction. "We need to prepare you for the next scene right away!"

"..."

Shen Jingwei threw Yan Renzhong’s silhouette one helpless look before he reluctantly followed said costume preparation team member.

The scenes they filmed that day was a bedroom scene, followed by several palace scenes.

Yan Renzhong delivered his scenes with impeccable precision, ensuring that none of his personal emotions interfered with his performance.

Only Shen Jingwei, accustomed to Yan Renzhong’s expressive acting during intimate scenes, noticed a subtle change. Unlike usual, Yan Renzhong’s kisses lacked their usual passion. He performed the intimate acts as required, not because he harbored any additional feelings for Shen Jingwei.

Right after the bedroom scene ended, the actors had several minutes break.

Shen Jingwei called out to Yan Renzhong, but the latter purposefully moved away, pretending not to hear him.

Or maybe he really didn’t hear Shen Jingwei, because he was too occupied with his own thoughts.

"Little Shen!"

Zhu Dongyi beckoned Shen Jingwei over.

"I found your phone. A staff from Yunhuan Hotel said that someone delivered your phone to their desk this morning. See if anything is amiss?"

Shen Jingwei went through his phone and went through the 100+ notifications across the screen.

"No," he meekly said. "Nothing."

No message, no phone call from Yan Renzhong. Nothing at all.
