Yan Renzhong rolled his sleeves and nudged Shen Jingwei at the side.

"Come on, the faster we unpack, the earlier we can go home."

Shen Jingwei’s facial expression turned miserable.

"... What’s wrong?" Yan Renzhong asked with a frown.

"That... My mother mentioned about having all three of us live together as a family."

The unexpected news left Yan Renzhong dumbfounded.

"Why didn’t you tell me earlier?"

"I can’t. I don’t know how to. What with Mom and Dou Dou being there when that stupid box of red bean rice arrived..."

Yan Renzhong heaved a sigh.

"It was not the most delicate way of sharing that particular information with your family, but so what, Jingbao? We are grown men in a relationship. It is bound to happen, sooner or later."

Shen Jingwei, whose skin was as thin as rice paper, quickly flushed from embarrassment.

"Frankly, I don’t think that my mother wanted to know the intimate details of our relationship."

Yan Renzhong pulled a grimace. Frankly, if his mother was still around, his mother might not want to delve that deep into the intricacies of a relationship between two men, either.

"So, are you going to move out and leave me behind...?" Yan Renzhong asked, sounding a lot like an abandoned five-year-old child.

Shen Jingwei reluctantly answered, "I don’t want to disappoint my mother, so... Yes."

Yan Renzhong sighed. He reached out and pulled Shen Jingwei into his arms.

"It’s alright," he said. "This house and my apartment are within walking distance. I can come visit you, and you can also come visit me."

"You better do, or I am coming for you."

Once Shen Jingwei finished confiscating Shen Dou Dou’s indecent masterpieces, it was time for Yan Renzhong to go home.

The whole Shen family sent him off at the door.

"Bye," Shen Jingwei’s waved at his boyfriend. "Sleep tight."

"Mmm, you too," Yan Renzhong said in reply.

Under Mother Shen’s watchful eyes, they did not even get to share a good night’s kiss.

Shen Jingwei’s heart ached immensely, but it probably couldn’t compare with Yan Renzhong’s.

Yan Renzhong turned to leave, but he stopped in his tracks when Mother Shen suddenly spoke up.

Mother Shen referred to her son as if he were a puppy, left behind by his rightful owner.

"But Mom, I thought you wanted us to live together. It would be proper if I stay for the night..."

Mother Shen’s eyes drifted between her dumbfounded children and Yan Renzhong several times before she shook her head and sighed deeply.

"Lovers will eventually become family. Why would I want to separate the both of you...?"
