Second Take On Romance - The A-List Actor Wants Me -
Chapter 196 : Jin Zhuo’s Request
Chapter 196: Chapter 196 : Jin Zhuo’s Request
"Brother Shen!"
"Heyyy, it’s Brother Shen!!!"
Shen Jingwei’s arrival was met with enthusiasm by his old coworkers, confusion by the new butlers, and astonishment by Head Butler Wu.
"Why are you back again?" The latter asked incredulously. "Did you get fired from the drama? Shen Jingwei, I am so sorry..."
Luo Chengshi broke into a laughter so sudden that he began to choke.
Yang Zichen was the one who corrected Head Butler Wu, "Head Butler, you misunderstood. We invited Brother Shen here for a little reunion. I am going to pay for his coffee. Come on, sit, sit, sit."
In the end, even Head Butler Wu was invited to join the reunion.
"So how does it feel to film with the likes of Yan Renzhong and Feng Jietang?" Luo Chengshi asked. "It is a completely different feeling than when we are watching them on television, right?"
"Intimidating at some point," Shen Jingwei admitted, "but they continuously push me to be better, so I owe them my success so far."
Yang Zichen groaned.
"Truly, with a teacher, it’s like climbing a ladder; without a teacher, it’s like a blind man touching an elephant."
Jin Zhuo, who had been silent up until that moment, suddenly began to talk.
"It must be great, acting alongside these A-List actors day in and day out."
The envy simmered beneath his words like a volcano, its molten lava threatening to erupt, staining his speech with a toxic hue.
Thankfully, Jin Zhuo realized it in time. Before anyone had time to come up with a reaction, he already whipped up a smile and raised his cup toward Shen Jingwei.
"To Brother Shen and his gleaming career! May we all soon follow suit!"
The slight tension in the air dissipated, replaced with a joyful cheer as coffee cups bumped against each other in the spirit of reunion.
When actors gathered, they couldn’t help but talk about upcoming auditions and interesting opportunities.
Once that topic was exhausted, they started chatting about the recent updates in the entertainment industry.
Which actor would receive the awards at the end of the year, which celebrities were on the rise and which celebrities were slowly declining.
The golden time when the coffee shop had little to no guests passed in a blink of an eye.
Head Butler Wu and the other butlers went back to work, leaving Jin Zhuo to send Shen Jingwei off.
Since Shen Jingwei’s face was relatively widespread now, what with "Dance Of The Dragons" currently being broadcast on television every week and the many commercials starring him, it was not convenient for him to be among the crowd.
The two men exited the coffee shop through the back door, and walked slowly along a remote alley, heading to the nearest bus station.
"So... Congratulations again for getting the role of Su Jiahong," Jin Zhuo sincerely said.
"Thanks, Jin Zhuo. Do you have more auditions lined up?"
Jin Zhuo shook his head, a sour expression slowly spreading across his face.
"Brother Shen..."
"Yes?"
Jin Zhuo swallowed hard.
He never thought that he would stoop this low, but there was nothing else he could do to rectify his current situation.
"Can you please recommend me to any role...?"
"..."
"Any role is fine. I will also accept cannon fodder and corpse roles."
"... Jin Zhuo..."
Jin Zhuo used to be a highly confident actor. Although he never landed a major role before, he rarely went without jobs. Cannon fodder and corpse roles were obviously beneath his niveau.
Jin Zhuo grabbed Shen Jingwei’s hands and squeezed them.
"You see, I almost exhaust my income for this month. I need a job. Any job. Shen Jingwei, you have precious connections with A-List actors. Surely you can recommend me to them. I will do anything. I won’t make any trouble for you, I promise."
Shen Jingwei stared at Jin Zhuo for a long time before he gave a nod.
"I will see what I can do," he said.
The tense lines around Jin Zhuo’s eyes relaxed upon hearing Shen Jingwei’s words.
"Really?" He exhaled out of relief.
"Thank you. Thank you very much."
As Shen Jingwei sat on the long bench at the bus station, waiting for his bus to arrive, he pondered the best course of action to take.
The first person he thought of was naturally Yan Renzhong. But then, another person’s name popped up.
Shang Ruohai.
Shang Ruohai managed talents under CNC Studio.
If anyone could grant Jin Zhuo a chance in one of CNC Studio’s projects, it would be Shang Ruohai.
Gingerly, Shen Jingwei took out his phone and began scrolling through his contact list on WeChat for Shang Ruohai’s name.
Once he found the number, he immediately pressed the call button.
The phone rang three times before Shang Ruohai picked up.
"Fancy having you call me directly," Shang Ruohai spoke as soon as the call connected. "What’s up, Little Shen?"
Shen Jingwei pressed his lips together, hesitation weighing down the words on his tongue.
It concerned Jin Zhuo’s future, so naturally Shen Jingwei had to treat the matter with care.
"Senior Shang, I... Is it possible for us to meet for a while?"
"I can’t today," came the curt reply.
"What about tomorrow?"
"I will be leaving the country tomorrow morning."
"..."
"What’s up? Just say what you need to say on the phone."
"I can’t," Shen Jingwei said. "It wouldn’t be proper. Look, may I come find you? I promise I won’t take long."
"Hold on."
Shang Ruohai went to talk to some other people. All Shen Jingwei heard was the distinct voices of several people talking at once.
"Alright," he said after a while. "Come to Paradise Hills. My secretary will send you the exact address soon. Just tell the receptionist my name, and they will lead you to me."
Paradise Hills was one of the more popular golf courses in the city.
Didn’t Yan Renzhong speak about going to a golf course this morning?
Shen Jingwei bit into the insides of his cheek.
Hopefully he was not intruding on something.
