Chapter 850: Chapter 426 The Story of the Spectral Saint Mage (Part 3)

"For two full months, the teacher nursed his wounds before his cultivation finally recovered. He stealthily left the hideout and made his way back to Empire City. Yet, before he could even enter the city gates, he was struck as if by a thunderclap."

"Right beside the city gates, there was a conspicuously posted royal proclamation. The proclamation read: ’Viscount Eleks of the Empire, coveting the powerful Cultivation Technique bestowed upon Princess Flo, assaulted her and stole the Technique, leaving the princess gravely injured and committing treason in his flight. Designated as a traitor, his title is revoked, and all are warranted to slay him on sight. Should any commoner locate his whereabouts, they must report it immediately, with a reward of 10 thousand gold coins.’

"The teacher never imagined they would stoop to such vile depths, to actually turn the tables on him. And it wasn’t just the royal proclamation; there was also one from the Glorious Papacy. The content was almost identical, proclaiming the teacher a heretic, claimed to have been tainted by the deep darkness."

"At that moment, the teacher stood dumbfounded for a full hour before he slowly came back to his senses. He deeply loved Flo, but he was no fool. If he couldn’t see the great conspiracy he was ensnared in by that point, he wouldn’t deserve to be the successor of the prodigy of Luminosity. The teacher immediately found a secluded spot to disguise himself. He thought, he must find evidence, evidence that would clear him of the deception laid upon him by the Empire and the Papacy, and prove his innocence. And the key to that lay with Flo. So, he had to find her and demand the truth."

"Perhaps because several months had passed, or maybe because they thought the teacher had already succumbed to the poisoned dagger, the Empire City was not under martial law. After disguising himself, the teacher easily returned to Empire City. Looking at the once familiar place, his heart ached even more. When night fell, he secretly infiltrated the Royal Palace. He knew the place like the back of his hand. Although he was a Mage, as an 8th Rank, he had plenty of ways to sneak into any location he desired. The teacher made his way to Flo’s chambers, but there, he saw someone else—Perot, the Pope’s son."

"The two of them were conversing in Flo’s chamber. By then, the teacher already had suspicions about their relationship, but he was unwilling to believe it. However, when he heard their conversation clearly, he realized just how naïve he had been and the sheer magnitude of the conspiracy."

"At that time, Flo demanded of Perot why they hadn’t found the teacher yet. Perot told her that the Glorious Papacy had already deployed their power, coordinating with the Empire’s forces to search for the teacher—alive or dead, they must obtain the Cultivation Technique in the teacher’s possession. From their words, the teacher gradually discerned the truth. It turned out that during the years of his travels, Perot had arrived at the Royal Magic Academy. He had two purposes: one was to liaise with the Emperor in hopes of luring the teacher into the Glorious Papacy. The other was to pursue Flo."

"Initially, the Emperor did not agree to the teacher joining the Glorious Papacy. And so, Perot stayed on. He pursued Flo using all kinds of means. And that wretched Flo, failing to resist his sweet words and the temptations of various Cultivation Techniques and elixir pills from the Glorious Papacy, ultimately succumbed to his advances. Perot proposed to her that because the teacher possessed the Luminosity Child constitution, he posed a threat to the future rule of the Glorious Papacy. Therefore, the Papacy must eliminate him to secure their lineage’s eternal rule. Once Perot became Pope, Flo would be his empress. While Flo might have still had some feelings for the teacher, when Perot finally suggested to the Emperor that the Glorious Papacy was willing to help unify the Massive Wave Empire and defeat the other two great empires, and when he mentioned that the Cultivation Technique taken from the teacher could be taught to her, both the imperial family and Flo ultimately fell for this offer of power. And the teacher became the sacrificial lamb of their gains."

"Their plan was nearly perfect. They took advantage of a trip the teacher took with Flo to ambush them, depleting the teacher’s strength. On their way back, Flo would strike at him when he was off guard, making his escape highly unlikely. Once they killed the teacher, the Empire and the Papacy could easily pin the crime of treason on him. Even if he once was the pride of the Empire, it wouldn’t take long for the official media narrative to drown out his legacy."

"The teacher felt such hatred, he could not have imagined that his country, his beloved, and his faith would all betray him at the same time. At that moment, his mind went blank. During the intimate moment between Flo and Perot, he burst in furiously and launched a deadly attack."

"The teacher’s appearance was too sudden for them. Though they were outstanding figures among the young generation, they were still vastly inferior to the teacher in terms of strength, especially in a surprise attack. The teacher quickly gained the upper hand. Perot was severely injured. Flo was subdued under the teacher’s onslaught. And at that point, although a great number of powerful courtiers rushed over, with Flo and Perot’s lives held hostage, they dared not act rashly."

"The teacher then demanded Flo tell him why she had betrayed him, what had he done to wrong her? She begged for her life, appealing to the teacher. But he had heard all their previous conversation! How could he possibly believe her now? At that time, the teacher only had one thought: to die together with them. The once prodigy of the sky had fallen to a traitor. The immense difference was something the teacher simply could not accept. He had lost all will to live and only wanted to perish along with that pair of despicable lovers."
