Chapter 577: Chapter 288 Homecoming_1
The gate creaked open, but Long Dangdang did not step inside immediately. A flash of light by his side, and Little Evil, who had not made an appearance for some time, materialized beside him.
Little Evil had grown slightly larger since their last encounter, now exceeding one meter in diameter. The sight of such a large eye would probably scare the daylights out of the average person. Its tentacles were waving around, and cold, malevolent light flickered in its eyes.
Now, it was already at the equivalent level of a Level 7 magical beast or a 6th Rank professionist, with incredible mental power. Invisible ripples burst forth, enveloping the entire Long family’s mansion.
Long Dangdang could clearly feel the sharing of spiritual power from Little Evil, leaving no corner of the Long family’s mansion hidden.
"Nothing." After a moment, Long Dangdang spoke in a deep voice, and then he was the first to enter through the gate.
The courtyard was deserted. To the east was a sturdy tree with a swing still hanging from it. This was a fun pastime when Long Dangdang and Long Kongkong were children. As there was only one swing, they often fought over it. Long Leilei told them that wrestling for fun was the most enjoyable. Consequently, the brothers often squabbled over the swing.
Tears streamed down Long Kongkong’s face all at once, and he ran three steps to the main house of his parents.
Long Dangdang followed him, while the others stayed on guard. After all, they had no reassurance that there were no wraith entities skulking about, even though the Temple Headquarters had scouted the place multiple times.
When they opened the main house’s doors, a layer of dust fluttered into the air. Evident footprints on the floor were likely left behind by Blue Temple workers who had come to investigate beforehand.
The house had been empty for a month, but the dust was not as visible as one might expect, thanks to the pleasant climate of Soaring Dragon City.
Everything was as they remembered. Nothing had changed since they left, except for the fact that their parents were missing and that familiar feeling remained the same.
"Brother." Long Kongkong couldn’t help but call out.
Watching his younger brother’s tear-filled eyes, Long Dangdang forcefully suppressed his emotions. "Calm down, we need to search first," he said, softness flashing across his face. He walked towards a portrait hanging on the wall. This was a family picture of four that hung in his parents’ room, in the most conspicuous place.
In the portrait, his father Leilei was sitting with his mother Ling Xue by his side. His mother was leaning on his father’s shoulder with her arm around him. The two boys: one was standing obediently beside their father, while the other was making faces behind their parents, grinning mischievously with bunny ears made of his fingers over their heads.
Long Kongkong couldn’t stop himself from following his brother’s gaze to the painting, "Mom, Dad!" He blurted out, rushing over to the painting within seconds, tears streaming down his face.
Long Dangdang hugged his brother’s shoulders, "Relax, we’ll definitely rescue them. We will!"
"Okay." Long Kongkong nodded vigorously, but he still struggled to control his emotions.
"Thank you all for waiting, let’s search again." Long Dangdang said to his companions, leading them into the living room to rest, while he and Long Kongkong began investigating inside the house.
Everything was familiar to them, so the searching was carried out efficiently. However, everything seemed in its right place, except for their parents’ absence. After a thorough hour-long search, they found nothing unusual.
It was as if their parents had vanished into thin air, leaving behind not a trace. The only certainty was that they did not leave in a rush, as everything in the house was neatly arranged and without leftover food in the kitchen.
According to the news from Temple Headquarters, a month ago, their parents had dismissed their housekeepers, though they didn’t know why.
In other words, their parents might have left willingly.
Long Dangdang had been dubious about this, but on seeing the condition of the house, he reluctantly began to believe it.
But if they themselves had left voluntarily, why were they still missing? Moreover, if they did, why hadn’t their dad reported to the Priest’s Temple, which was terribly strange. Being a Branch Temple Master, his dad wouldn’t be so irresponsible.
Even if his parents had wanted to visit him and his brother in the Holy City, they should have left a note or something, but there was not a single clue. There was no record of their departure from Soaring Dragon City. If they were going for business, they would definitely have a caravanserai accompanying them, and the exit needed to be registered. However, none of these had happened. Their parents’ whereabouts were unclear, so the Headquarters concluded that they were missing.
Long Dangdang’s face darkened as he gathered with his companions once more. He was unsure about the current situation, but his only option was to analyze it calmly.
"Our parents were likely planning to leave the city themselves, but the reason for their departure is uncertain. It’s possible they wanted to visit us in the Holy City. However, there are no records of my father requesting leave from the Priests Temple or of their exit from the city. Despite this, everything at home appears to have been arranged for in advance."
